Yeah I bet it does gangbuster business on DVD.
I never got into Firefly even though I tried a few times to get caught up when it reran on SCIFI. But being a huge supporter of everything Joss I went to see it last weekend -- and I absolutely loved it. I havent been so engrossed in a sci-fi genre movie that much since Aliens.
I went with a friend that goodnaturedly teases me about my Buffyverse obsession and at first she was like "Oh a geek-god Whedon movie, cant wait for the oh-so-snappy dialouge and all the subtle metaphors for every day life". but you guessed it --- she LOVED the movie more than even I did. HA
And the theatre was packed on a Saturday afternoon... I cant understand why this movie isnt still in the top ten?!?

AHHH!!!
Oh my god, what a movie, it was like... EVERYTHING a movie needs. Joss better win a pile of awards for that, cause it was just like.... WOW!
The start flashback was great, it was just very neat to see Simon get River... though when the teachers jabs it into lil River it made me jump ^^; I would have liked opening credits, it would have been neat, but owell.
I really enjoyed the movie, it had me on the edge of my seat. Kaylee was just, so funny, I love her! And I have gained a new respect for River... Her fighting was just wow.
The score was just amazing itself, and I wanna buy the soundtrack.
Okay, what else can I say?
Just wow. Go Joss.

My wife and I FINALLY got to see this movie and...EXCELLENT. I enjoyed this much more than the last three Star Wars movies, that's for certain. Good job, Mr. Whedon! Now if only Universal had done a better job promoting it...

Now if only Universal had done a better job promoting it... I don't think Universal can be blamed for not promoting Serenity. They promoted the hell out of this thing! Commercials were playing all the time, they had Firefly running on Sci-Fi every week, the sponsored WWE Raw quite a few times. I think the biggest problem with this movie was the timing, as September is traditionally part of the lull between the blockbuster summer movies and the blockbuster Christmas movies. Serenity was a summer movie that didn't come out in the summer, and that hurt it a lot, IMO.

I think you can also blame the fact that the trailers themselves didn't exactly make it clear what kind of a movie this was. A lot of my friends thought that Serenity was some kind of "space comdey..thingy" based on the trailers they'd seen (specifically the "You wanna run this ship?" "Yes" "Well...you can't!" ones)
I think if the people who created the trailers had possibly made several detailing each different genre of the movie, it might have been a good deal more effective at hooking people in.

I think that can hurt a movie a lot, too. Has anyone seen the trailers for the new movie Wetaher Man? Is it a mid-life crisis movie ala American Beauty? Is it a surreal blurring of the lines like Adaption? Is it a straight comedy? Is it a day in the life type thing? Because whoever's making those trailers can't decide what the movies about, I don't feel compelled to see it.

I totally agree with that. I think the Trailer really appealed to Firefly Fans and lots of B/A Fans but those who didn't have a knowledge of Joss or the Firefly Verse really had a hard time understanding. All the Trailer really told you was that it's a funny movie and is loved by everyone lol

Well I just got back from seeing it, and WOW. I had heard that a main character died, and like someone already said, I thought I was safe after Book died. But Wash.. goddamn. My favourite character. Totally unexpected. Loved the film, and I can't wait to see it again. The dialogue, humour, action.. had it all.
