First-run theatres actually only get about 15% of their take opening week, the rest is delivered to the studios. Thus the high prices of popcorn. yeah, and theatres also pay for the electricity, bulbs and they see no profit at all from ticket sales because of those costs. We make all of our money from concessions. If people don't buy snacks, we don't work. It costs so much just to run a projector in a big screen theatre. A 428 seat theatre in our theatre takes a 5,000 watt bulb to run. Just to strike it up costs sooo much money we have to sell like 30 tickets for one round of movies just to break even at my theatre.

I was reading the yahoo user reviews. They were mostly terrific. But one bad one had a good point. SPOILERS! If the Reavers are so out-of-control with madness that they cut up their own faces and ravenously torment everything in their paths, how do they work together and keep their ships in such fabulous working order? I thought of that during the film and saw someone else point out the same thing. Did they ever talk about that on the show? The show talked more about Reavers, like different habits they had, but basically said the same things, I think. IMO, Reavers aren't just out-of-control madmen, but they became psychotic, and one of their drives is to hurt non-crazy people, hence they organize enough for that purpose. They defile their own skin, and hurt themselves, yeah, but its part of their extreme nihilism, and not the actions of someone killing themselves or losing control of everything.

I saw this again last night, and I think I enjoyed it more than the first time. This time I went alone and was there simply as a Firefly fan, just appreciating the good parts and not nitpicking the bad parts like last time.

I saw it last night, and it was sooo good. The humor is there constantly, the fight scenes are amazing, and its just amazing all round. Some shock deaths, was not expecting one of them, the effects are good, fast paced etc etc. Just can't say enoug about how good it is. the begining was good, when they explained the backstory, it wasn't done in a patronsisng way to those who've already seen firefly. Well done Joss and the rest of the guys.

A know a lot of people are feeling it's all over for chances of a sequel but if Serenity is able to not lose to much of it's opening weekend audience that will be good news. Joss Whedon on the Browncoats board has said that this second weekend is the most important. So if you saw the movie last week and you loved it, go again this weekend and bring a couple of friends along with you.

SPOILERS!!!
I've just seen it and...WOW! Although I thought the series was great I feel Buffy and Angel outshine it but this film was just absolutely incredible. I was compelled and just couldn't take my eyes off the screen...even though I needed to pee! It was funny, action packed, dramatic, tragic and was just such a good balance. The only complaint I have is the death of Sheperd Book. I understand why Wash was killed off but I think there was just so much more that could have been developed upon with the Sheperd and it seems like such a waste to have him killed off but I suppose Joss needed to make quota on deaths or whatever.

Well the beautiful thing about Whedon is that dead doesn't mean they stay dead. There is always the potential to explore characters via flashbacks. I could see that working especially well in future sequels.

That is definitely something I would like to see. I can't belive I didn't think of it. I'm still a little hyped about how amazing the film was. It totally exceeded my expectations and I even warmed to caharcters, mainly Jayne, who I wasn't fond of in the past.

***Spoilers*** (I'm stating it, but come on, if you haven't seen the movie and don't want to be spoiled, then you probably shouldn't even be in this tread)
I too could see how Books past could still be explored, and the fact that he is dead could make it a lot more interesting...and troublesome for Mal and the crew. I also thought his death was necessary for the plot of the movie, it's what pushed Mal into taking action to reveal what the Alliance was trying to keep hidden. On the other had, I felt that Washes death was unnecessary, that's what made it so tragic, shocking, and painful.

Had never seen firefly before i went to go and see serenity but i loved it! Absolutely fell in love with the whole thing and i think i had my mouth open for most of it! I thought everyone was gonna die at the end and i nearly cried at the Wash's death! (not ashamed to admit that one)
Hopefully it does amazingly well, cos i for one wouldn't mind a sequel. Here's hoping Joss Whedon does the same great things with the wonder woman film as he did with serenity!

Just a question was there anything after the end credits, cos after the film quite a few people were still sitting there as if something was coming up after the credits?!

Serenity is my favourite movie of ALL TIME! I LOVED IT!! I hope anybody who hasnt seen the film doesnt read this board as I kept away from it so I didnt know whether to expect a crap or great film. If people see reviews like it was amazing etc they will almost all the time be disappointed after seeing the film as they will always expect something better. Its a fact. I went with 3 friends, one was a firefly fan and me and her LOVE the film. We both gasped, cried and laughed at all the saem parts which was funny. Also, the audience laughed and gasped alot more than they usually do in movies. The two friends who werent firefly fans also Love the film which is always a good thing. SPOILERS First off...WASH'S DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never been sooooo shocked and let out as big gasp in a movie/tv show ever. I've seen so many films that I can almost always never be surprised but that moment really chocked me. Me and my firefly buddy both jumped to the edge of our seats in tears. And when kayleigh, simon, wash and Zoe all got injured/killed I was again, on the edge of my seat in fright. I can never predict what Joss will do next. At one point I even thought he was gona kill off the whole cast!!! I was obviously wrong. All of Rivers fight scenes were spectacular. I sat in my seat with butterflies (literally, that is no joke) as I watched Summer Glau bend al kinda ways and do alkinda back flips and jumps. The last fight with the Reavers...I could have cried it was so breathe taking. Also, a very cool shot was when the Reavers grabbed River and draged her away and the camera stayed on one spot as you watched her hands clawing the air. I also thought, again, that River was gonna die. Another, rather shallow point, was that the whole cast looked uber hot. Nathan looked rather fine and buff in his topless scene and through out the rest of the film. Inara was STUNNING as always. Kayleigh looked alot hotter with longer wavy hair and was just sooo cute. Simon looked...*Drool*...Gorgeous. I wont go into details on each character but they all looked mighty fine. Two points tho', Zoe looked so cool with her hair down but one sad point was that book had cut off his pony tail or put it in cornrows or whatever. He had the best hair when it was taken out of the ponytail. He looked so funny!! The CGI was great, I had butterflies (again) in the space battle between the reavers and the alliance. I loved the scene when the reavers main ship emerged from the clouds. That was great! I also loved (how many times have I said loved in this post?? ) the scene near the beginning with the chase between mal, zoe, river, jayne and the reavers in their little hover crafty things. That was cool. The storyline was great. I had (I know, third time) butterflies near the end cos I was so nervous that one of my charcters would be killed off. Wash and Book was bad enough and when the remaining crew was waiting for the reavers to break through the door and they suddenly emerged. I was crapping my self. My non-firefly friend was crapping herself also, and gasped when they got through, showing she had warmed to the characters after a couple of hours of film time. Joss did it again... I think thats about it for now...Im sure to come up with more points, and sorry about the long post but Im in love with this film. I plan on seeing it with my sis, my best friend who couldnt make the first showing I went to. My mum, and my other circle of friends. Thats an extra four showing. Cant wait!

More comments... Wash's burial scene was really good. Gina Torres looked stunning and the shot from the back...she is gorgeous. She has, like the perfect curvy figure. Bring on the customs.. Another scene I thought was cool and one that really, really, really got my heart bumping was when Simon took the bullets, River was kinda physco and started to race down the tunnel towards the Reavers. I felt like jumping up and down in my seat, waving my hands in the air and cheerin as if I was at a football. as the camera started chasing after her down the tunnel. I read one comment in this thread about the speech in the film and the accent. I had no problem with it. I didnt even pick up on it and neither did my non firefly friends. I must admit tho', Wash's last words were a bit... And lastly, a comment I read in whedonesque which I thought was kinda true...'Joss is trying to give me a Summer Glau foot fetish!

Im not having a go at the people who saw the film first and Im soooo gla you all wne tot see the film but you have missed out on so much. The whole Reaver storyline is so much more of a revelation for us Browncoats as we have been wondering about that question for years. Also, Rivers storyline was a bit of a revelation. When I re-watch episodes, especially 'objects in space' its like a watching a time-bomb which explodes in the film. And lastly, the charcter death scenes are much more poignant for us. We have been with these charcters for a while and it was horrendous when the two of them died. Im not saying, dont watch the film if you havent seen the tv show as you dont need to but the whole film was so much better having seen the show before. Its like watching buffy season 7 first and then going to the beginning.

I saw the movie today and its just so freakin' fantastic! It exceeded all expectations and had me so involved my partner couldn't get a word out of me, lol. *** Contains Spoilers *** I loved the fact that the Reavers were a product of The Alliance's obsession with having a 'perfect world'. It reflected so much on todays society it was quite scary that this could happen one day. I used to think though that River was connected to the Reavers in some way, the similarity in their names always made me speculate. River was AMAZING, and that last fight she did was just so cool. When The Alliance police-type men turned up at the end and it showed the blood dripping off her axe-thing it made me say "Oh No!" out loud, lol. I did hope Book's past would be revealed. I really wanted for him to be an ex-Alliance member, perhaps somebody that used to be high up and was involved in the war. He could of converted to being a preacher when he realised The Alliance wasn't really what he thought it was. In his final moments I thought he'd say something to Mal about it. But maybe this will be explored further in a sequel or novel. As for Wash, I was in complete shock, he was one of my favorite characters. But I'm kinda glad they did that too him because a) it was a typical Whedonesque shocker and b) it made me feel like no character was safe and during the 'final battle' I feared for everyone. There was so many laughs, and Jayne was HI-larious. Loved the bit when he was hanging off the cruiser. And I was so glad to see Simon and Kaylee together, its about time One thing that puzzles me - What is Joss's thing with robotic girlfriends? lol

I'm seeing this movie sometime this week with my brother and I can't wait! From what you've all been saying, it sounds completley amazing. Also, to support the franchise I'm already planning my Second and Third trips to the cinema to see this and just this afternoon, I bought all 6 copies of the Serenity Magazine from my local Newsagents meaning that they'll buy loads more in! I'm sad I know, but I love Firefly!
