I got to see a pre-showing of the movie last night.
SERENITY
"No Spoilers"
After a really crappy, busy, and financially draining week and a half, I got one gleaming ray of sunshine in my little world.
A free pass to see Serenity! (although I have every intention of paying to see this movie again!
If I had harboured any doubts that Joss could write and direct for the big screen, those doubts are long gone. From the moment the movie started to the very last scene I was hooked!
Joss was able to summarize the plot of the TV show in the first five minutes of the movie. Then with little tidbits thrown out here and there throughout the film, he did a good job of explaining to a "Non-Firefly" audience the plot and the people on the screen.
The action scenes were first rate!
The CGI was excellent!
The acting was great!
And Joss's trademark humor is scattered throughout the film in all the appropriate places.
If there is never another Firefly/Serenity movie, Joss did an excellent job of giving his story a nice ending point with this film.
If I have any worries about how this will do at the box office, then there are two things...
Captain Mal's countrified speech may not go over well with a Non-Firefly audience. I admit, it kind of got on my nerves when I first started watching the TV show. (I'm over that now
The second thing is the huge major fight scene (you'll know it when you see it). I may be worring over nothing, but some Non-Firefly people may see this part as a little contrived. Where I think it is actually logical, plausible, and would have made the perfect season ender (two-parter) to the TV show.
I enjoyed this movie tremendously, and I give it my highest recommendation!
If I was to rate it... then I'd give it 3 1/2 stars. I will be very pissed off it gets anything less then 3 stars in the media.
So, in conclusion... pay for the movie, watch the movie, buy the DVD when it comes out, and watch it again. You won't be disappointed!
