I'm in love. Loving Kitty and Piotr together under Whedon, loving the cover (one of my favorites of all time), and loving this sculpture. I just can't wait to see more. Please update us with pictures every time you smooth something out or add an indent. Thank you. I also need to sculpt a base for them as the sculpt is going to stop at the knees. I plan on making the Astonishing X logo for the base. Man i wish DST would do this bust....It would totally rule. They could do one of Emma with her diamond hands over cyclop's eyes too.... *Spoilerish response for AXM* I would so buy those... Man, Cassaday is so great at creating simple images that evoke so much. What about that last panel of the most recent ish where Kitty does a Wolvie? I think I love Whedon and Cassaday as a couple as much as I do Kitty and Colossus. (Man, every time I think of something great that's happened in Astonishing I think of something better...Emma's total destruction of Scott was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in comics). II'll be mourning the day their run ends .

Aly, it looks like it is going to be stunning. I love the sculpting on Kitty, she looks beautiful. Not a great fan of the modern day x-men, being an old fart, but I do love art and this is certainly going to be ART.

Insanity, thanks for posting the cover! It helps me to appreciate Alyrenne's statue even more! how many covers does Joss have? So far, this is the only one I have seen! Here are a few more pictures of my Zoe custom. I got Jayne in the mail today so I was inspired to take a few group shots! Here is one more close up of Zoe's face. I didn't darken her complexion completly but I did add a few darker tones in areas. It is a gloomy day here so the pics are kinda' bleak. Thanks for looking!

Here is a River custom I started but I doubt I will finish her. I started her in Super Sculpty because it was all I had.... I HATE Super Sculpty. I bought a huge load of Sculpty II today so IF I decide to make this custom, I will start over with SculptyII. Thanks for looking!

We have a late-breaking sponsor for this challenge, so there will be the opportunity to enter your challenge custom into a contest at the end of the month. The prize is a DST action figure. The sponsor is Mike (NaturallyBuffBuff).
If you'd like to be able to enter your custom into the contest, please have it finished by 26th August. The contest will be set up on 27th in a separate thread. You can put in all your entries or just nominate one (so that you don't split your vote).
I will open the thread and arrange the gallery of entries. All BtVSFigs members will be able to vote for the winner. NaturallyBuffBuff will be collating the votes.

A few details on Kaylee- She is made from a Buffy I head, Galadrieal torso, Darla arms, Anya legs, and Scully feet. Her hair and jumper are sculpted. I also sculpted her wrist cuff. The gun came with Jayne. Her belf came from a video game figure. I have no clue what game/character it was. I bought it at a KBToys years ago because I liked the belt! I am done sculpting River. I hope to have her painted and posted by this time tomorrow!

Thanks Hitnrun! Here is my next entry. River! She is made from a DLX EOD Buffy torso and legs, Buffy II arms, Faith I face, and DLX Faith hair. Her boots, legs, and dress are all sculpted. I could not be happier with the outcome of her dress sculpt. I am really happy with it! My origional plan with this contest was to make the entire cast as they appeared in the final battle sequence of Serenity, minus Mal and Jayne because of the DST versions. I think I have changed this plan to making just the ladies...we'll see... Thanks for looking! As always, comments and constructive critism are always welcome -Jon

Here is an inprogress pic of Inara. I don't think I will be finishing her today unless I can't sleep again like I did with River! I have a bit of sculpting left to do and then, obviously, painting! PS: BIG props to Ms.Big for keeping this so organized and FUN!!! As you can see, I am really enjoying this challenge so..... Thanks!

Buffyfanone- you're going great! I can't wait to see the whole crew together in plastic form! Anyway, I was planning on making a Kaylee, but it seemed Aly beat me to the punch with the recipe she used. So then I turned to my love, Astonishing X-Men. It took a while to figure out what I could do that no one else would think of, and when I saw the new Marvel Select Spider-Woman figure I knew exactly who I wanted to do: S.W.O.R.D. Agent Abigail Brand. I wish I could post reference pics, but I can't really find any on the net. Anyway, this is from issue 13 when she's speaking with a sword agent on a gian SHIELD aircraft. Usually we see her hair in a ponytail or bun, and in this scene it was flying around, so I kinda had to interpret it on my own. The sculpting felt like it took DECADES...I'm not sure why since there's not that much, I guess precise work takes a lot more focus than just sculpting folds in clothing. Advice?

Yhanks for your compliment WillFan! It is nice to know that people are still paying attention to the challenge threads!
It's hard to say w/o reference photos I guess I would advise you to emphasize certain details that stand out to you. Seeing as how her costume is spandk, there isn't much to sculpt but maybe there is a certain way that the material gathers at her hip or that it stretches acrost the bust...I say focus on things like that and you will be golden!
She looks very nice so far. I have never seen the character that you are trying to recreate so i can not comment on her accuracy but the sculoting is very smothe! I cam ancious to see her finished!
