Aly, i LOVE your Kaylee! It's the cutest thing i've ever seen, Dawn's head was such a good choice.. it looks like it was made for her.

Here is my entry for this month. It is Inara from the first episode of Firefly. I tried Alyrenee's method of face painting on her. Of course, mine is not near as good as hers, but I had fun doing it. I used the head and upper body of a purple dress Cordelia figure, and the lower body of a Together Forever Tara figure. She is for sale, just PM me if interested.

Buffyfanone-I love your Kristy Swanson Buffy custom, especially the way that you took the photo. It does look like Luke Perry is peering around her shoulder. My favorite part is the sweater around her waist. Great job!
Alyrenee-Your Kaylee is great, even though I still see a lot of Dawn in her. I love the detailing of our her outfit, especially the sleeves. The base is awesome! I love that you gave her part of Serenity's engine! Your Inara puts mine to shame. She is just lovely!
AnyaEmerson-Inara's outfit is spot on from that scene in Serenity! Great job! Zoe's outfit is great, but her skin color is too dark and flat. Jayne is just perfect!

I'm planning on making a Simon custom, however I've started a summer job, so it'll probably appear towards the end of the month.
I love these customs so far and can't wait to see more.

I plan on finishing her tomorrow night. Ok...I guess I was lying. Her hair is proving to be MUCH trickier than I had anticipated! The curls are killing me but they are turning out great (imho) I can't wait to show it!!

Does anyone have any sugestions for mixing Zoe's skin-tone?
Thanks!

start with a burnt sienna mixed with some brown...and then build up some layers. it should be lighter in some areas and darker in others. It would be darker on the sides of her nose and eyes and under her chin, under the cheekbones etc, then some blush on top of that...it just needs some dimension and it will be a fabulous custom. I recommend getting a good picture of her and just looking at the tones of her face.

I have finally finished my second entry for the Wider Whedonverse challenge! Zoe is finally done!! She took me alot longer to make than I thought she would. But in the end I think it was worth it! I am extatic with her outcome. I don't think I could be happier! I intend on repainting the stripe down the center of her shirt. Other than that, I think I am done! Thanks to Alyrenee for the base idea!! Thanks for looking! Comments and critism are greatly appreciated! -Jon

I ended up mixing Medium Flesh and Acorn Brown to get Zoe's skin tone. I used some watered down Acorn mixed with a smaller amount of Medium Flesh to shade in some of the areas on her face. Thanks again!

Buffyfanone, I like the Zoe figure. Nicely sculpted.Great hair.
I think her skin could be a richer tone. With more Burnt Umber and some Yellow Ochure.
She should also have dark brown eyes, not blue.

Buffyfanone you are right...she does have a good likeness.
The skin really needs to be darkened though.
Great sculpting though.
But deffo darken the skin.

Thanks for your compliments! I see what you mean about the skin tone. I think I will work on giving her some depth but I really am happy with the color. In natural light, it looks alot more like Zoe's skin tone. As for the blue eyes...She dosn't have blue eyes. Her eyes are a mix of black and dark brown. Maybe the flash reflected or something. I didn't even use any blue paint anywhere on this custom and the base figure had brown eyes aswell.
I am working on River, Kayle, and Inara as I type!
Again, thanks for looking! -Jon

I wanted to add a custom to the challenge. This was a commission from my sales event that I just finished. It's River from Serenity.

Shondra - Whose head is that? It works well for Summer Glau (although I think her hairline's a bit too high)
Lotta Firefly so far - I think it could have been a challenge by itself. It's all been cool to see, and the comparisons are interesting. (I was gonna do a jacketed Jayne too - I'm pretty sure we've seen one before?)
Maybe I'll hold off working on my Mal figure and go on to my Astonishing X-Men idea...
