I am not a comic fan. I love comic book movies but, aside from the Buffyverse, I don't really read comics. I am excited to see what you guys will come up with because I have never seen any of the characters from X-Men in anything other than what they wore in the movies and those yellow spandex numbers from the cartoon!
I am planning a S*&t load of Serenity customs! By the end of this contest, if all goes according to plan, I should have one fo every crew member that has not already been made by DST!

Wow... a lot of great Firefly/Serenity customs here, guys. Shondra, I love my River! Great likeness, and the detail is stunning. Love the hem of the dress- it's perfect. And the boots! Awesome. Aly, Kaylee is so cute! Hard to believe that started life as a Lessons Dawn. Her arms look like they took AGES to paint, but it's worth it, they look fantastic.

Okay, I have my first entry completed It's Zoe from the Firefly episode "Safe". Recipe: Season 5 Anya head, Season 5 Anya torso & arms, and Dark Witch Willow legs. First I sanded down the shirt completely and also part of her pants. I then sculpted the hair, shirt, belt, and boots. Thanks to Alyrenee for the base idea. -Jess

Buffyfanone- Great job utilizing parts and getting that great pose (the photo is really fantastic). The 90's spandex is so painfully apparent, great job . Also, magnificent Zoe. I think that head works really well, and the skintone and hair look amazing. But the outfit is just perfect, best sculpting you've ever done! And the paint job with the different washes really compliments it. Aly- Delicious! When I first started to think about what I'd enter, I was set to do Kaylee from that exact recipe (I've since changed my mind, but it's great to see how well it could work out). The outfit is amazing...those sleeves look great and bring out the character a lot. Inara is gorgeous, the outfit is simply amazing. Honestly I'm having trouble seeing a likeness, but the figure itself is so amazing I don't frikkin care. The bases and accessories for both are ingenius, and I love the wall base idea. AnyaEmmerson- You really transformed the base figure you started with in Inara. Again, don't really see the likeness but she fits with Mal pretty well. However, Zoe is excellent, especially her outfit, and if you lightened the skintone a bit I think we'd see a great likeness. Jayne also looks great! Becky- I don't think I've seen Cordy's torso on Tara's legs before...it looks great and works fantastically for an Inara! The hair is a tad big on top though. But the base fits her perfectly . ShondraSu- Love River's sculpted hair and dress..the boots look great too! I don't really see a likeness, but maybe if you did bring the hairline down it would help. Otherwise, another ship-shape clean figure! Jess- Great Zoe! I think the likeness is pretty darn close, and the hair sculpt is really really fitting. I do think the boots could be taken in a little a the ankles, but other than that she looks great, as dose her arsenal!

Recruiting-with-a-Parasol KayleeI made this Kaylee for the Firefly "Serenity" episode. I used a Willow figure with Dawn legs and deluxe arms. I sculpted her hair tied up in two buns, sanded her nose to be retroussé and painted her face to look like Kaylee. I sculpted the shirt, overalls, flip-flops and chinese jacket. I painted her shirt and teddy logo. I used metallic paint and pens on her jacket. I used the spokes of a cocktail umbrella to make the chinese parasol. I cut some plain white paper to size, then folded it many times and painted the swirls. I gave her Neo's stand to look like Serenity.

Nice Zoe, Jess, the likeness from Anya is perfect.
MsBig, I love that Kaylee, so cute and Kayeeish, her parasol is a cool extra and her jacket is shiny, which is always a bonus.

I made a tiny adjustment to Kaylee today. I lightened the area just underneath her eyebrows. I also took the front-on photo in better light.

Yes that's an End of days deluxe figure. I thought the profile looked like Kitty's from the drawing. The Petyr fig is a Rising Stars unmasked Patriot figure. I had to cut his arms off to get them to pose in that right way...he will soon have arms. I have to go about this in several steps...sculpting each seperately..then curing then i will throw a quick paint job on them and then glue them together and finish the sculpting of the base and some of the othr parts. Its tricky because kitty is 'phasing' into Colossus (sigh...how i love this couple)...so it will be a tricky effect. I have already cut off some of buffy's fingers so that it looks like she is sinking into his face a bit..i will also be sculpting some of the hair coming out of his chest basically. The biggest problem is finding a chrome paint for Colossus...I might head to the model car section and use some testors paint...i just hope it doesn't melt the figure.
I also need to sculpt a base for them as the sculpt is going to stop at the knees. I plan on making the Astonishing X logo for the base. Man i wish DST would do this bust....It would totally rule. They could do one of Emma with her diamond hands over cyclop's eyes too....

i thought about that as well...but there's gotta be a paint that will work. I know that there is chrome spray paint at the very least...i can always use that...

Kitty and Colossus look amazing so far. I can't wait to see them done. Also I know someone else that's doing that custom.
