cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5993501547Here's is part of this guy's description: Your are bidding on the ultra rare 2005 Chicago Comic Con Exclusive Buffy End Of Days Buffy figure from Diamond Select Toys. This ultra rare figure is a limited edition piece and was only available to people who attented the Chicago Wizard World Comic Convention on August 5-7th. This figure was completely sold out by the end of the convention and will never be produced again. How bogus is that? However, I felt the need to write to him: Your description is inaccurate. She wasn't available only at the Con, and is not sold out. She's a Tower Records exclusive and many of them are still available in stores; she's nowhere near being rare yet and I find your description to be very misleading for anybody who doesn't know better. In fact, it's obvious in your picture of the figure that on the front bubble there's a sticker that says Tower Records Exclusive.Ha. Take that, guy.

It really bugs me when you see people doing this. They think that by putting *Rare* or Ultra Rare* on something like the new Bunny Anya they will make loads of money.

Well done! Those people should know that not everybody in this world is that gullible.

First, I must say that what this dude is doing is wrong. Secondly, I must also say that if someone is bidding on ebay, it is just as much their responsibility to do the necessary research on the accuracy of descriptions as it is the seller's to write truthfully.

That's insane... In fact, that's almost as bad as one I saw a week or two ago on eBay. The "rare and exclusive" SDCC (aka Season 5) Anya. "Limited" to 300 pieces, or some such nonsense.

I saw someone trying to see OMWF Anya for 50$ (un-autographed), they were saying it was "altra rare - sold out"
And I hate when people try to trick others into buying the new Bunny Anya saying it is the rare one... How... sad...

I just informed the bidder of this auction so that they know as well, after all you are allowed to retract your bid. I find that these people lie in their auctions, raise the price and cheat people out of their money.

Buffyfan, that was very cool of you to do. What a jerk this seller is. But there are tons of dishonest people on ebay and elsewhere on the net.

I got an e-mail back from the seller yesterday.
Apparently, he claims that a DST representative at the booth told him EOD Buffy was available at the Con because Tower supposedly withdrew all of their orders or whatever, so that she'd be unavailable anywhere else once the convention was over.
That all just sounds like a bunch of BS if you ask me.

Why do you even bother? If someone is un-informed about the rarity of an item, its not the sellers fault. I can put up a Season 4 Wesley and say UBER RARE and start at $29.99, and if that gets a bid, its not MY FAULT. The fact is, before you plop down that amount of money (double its retail) as a bidder, do a little research. You're jumping to someones rescue who dosn't even feel the need to do 3 minutes of research to see EOD Buffy is available on ebay CHEAPER and on various websites.
Do you get mad at the newspaper when someone tries to sell a 69' VW Bug for $8,000? If someone is stupid enough to buy it, they deserve it.

Well I'm not saying the buyer doesn't hold some responsibility also, but that has nothing to do with the principle of this.
It's blatantly false advertising and whether someone falls for the trick or not, it's wrong for somebody to mislead people.
What if some elderly Grandmother paid a ridiculous price for something that their grandchild wanted for a birthday gift, all because she saw it on eBay and it said 'incredibly rare, not available anywhere else' and blah blah? I just think when you list something, the description should be accurate to the item.

The SELLER can put anything he wants, and if someone is stupid enough to buy it, so be it. Ever goto a convention? Everyone has the "ONE AND ONLY" item selling at some booths for $50, then $75, then $200. Its all about being a smart buyer and doing a little research. Jumping on the seller for putting what he did in his description is one thing, but then to actually e-mail the bidder and let them know is crap.

These were delayed to almost every retail store besides Diamond.

I got an email back from the buyer saying thanks for the info. Although when I check he was the winner of the auction hopefully he will go to sites that I informed him of from now on to purchase his Buffy figures. At least I tried to help him out. I would be glad if someone did the same for me.

Well, yes....we're still waiting for our Tower exclusives. <sigh> Let's just say that they had ummm....staffing problems at Tower that caused some balls to be dropped. They're now trying to figure a way to ship the figures to me in time for a big convention this Friday. It looks unlikely it will come in time. As for this guy...I was in Chicago and I don't even recall EOD Buffy being sold there but then again since I was expecting them from Tower any time soon, I wasn't really looking for it. I always think it's funny when people put RARE or ULTRA RARE in their auctions and when you do a search, you find 2 or 3 pages of the "rare" figure. Goodness...so rare that everybody is trying to cash in, eh?

I would be glad if someone did the same for me. Well, he's from Canada. I would have been glad to sell it to him (when we get ours!! grrrrr) and he would have saved on shipping. The price isn't bad for Canada (We have it for $15.99 though) Oh well.

Demand determines supply. I think when there is a buyer who wants to pay for it, it`s his problem when he isn`t informed about the things he wants to buy... I generally look for different prices before I bid for something. But I often see auctions where people pay more for (used) things than they would pay in stores. maybe they have too much money
