Was anyone else surprised by the scale of the new Angel line? Illyria is taller than Wesley and Fred is about the same height as him. Fred is also slightly more than 2 inches taller than the Willow figures and at least 1 inch taller than DLX Buffy! I still think that Illyria is the most perfect BTVS/ATS figure ever (though I made the eyes on mine big and beady) but the scale really bothers me!

This has been discussed in great length in other threads.
And while Fred is really really big, I dont think she is more than 2 inches taller than Willow. That seems like a bit much.

I only gonna get Angel and Illyria, since i don't know the real size of the figures and i displayed all in the same place.

Everybody's talking about how out of scale the new line is.
I dont have it but honestly I noticed before that Lorne and Wes tower over Spike he looks like a kid to them size wise.
So actually I dont think this just started on the Angel/Fred wave.
Looks like maybe during the Wes/Lorne line that they upped the scale to me.

Wesley is taller than Spike, Alexis is 6' 2" (1.88 m) and James is 5' 11" (1.80 m), the problem is the scale, a figure can be taller than other, but the size of the head is diferent in one scale to another. That is the problem, i really want that someone put some pictures of the figures of Mac, the last release Dst and the new releases in a table, all together. I really want to see the real problem.

I know that the fred and Illyria are taller than the buffy line, but my fred will never be standing beside the buffy line. I put her next to Wesley and she looks fine. Personally I like a bigger action figure. As long as she goes with the dst Angel lines, I don't see the problem. If she were a btvs figure then i'd have a huge problem with it. And as far as the Spikes go I'll just put him on something higher. I'm not going to let this bother me. They are only action figures. I'm just greatful to be getting new ones.

MisterGoodPizza, give me a little bit to set mine up and I'll post a photo. Assuming you read this shortly, any prefernces on who's next to who? I can always re-arrange them and take another one if you want someone next to someone else for a more direct comparison... :-)

Okay. MrGoodPizza, here's a link to some pics of Fred and Illyria on my display shelf next to Cordy, Spike, Wes and Dlx Buffy (or near enough to hopefully give you the view you've been asking to see). This shelf is flat, though when I went to crop the picture the bottom line didn't quite line up across the shelf line, so my guess is the camera sort of does a "Fish Eye" type bulgy effect or something that makes it look curved on the sides or whatever. But it doesn't seem to substantially distort the figures in relation to each other. Also, you can see my custom Fred standing just behind untouched Fred (I have posted close ups in the "Season 3 Fred Redux" thread in the Custom Section for anyone who wants to see an in-scale Fred. :-) Other pics below. If anyone wants a direct comparison, just let me know between who and who and who. :-) Newton i15.photobucket.com/albums/a371/NewtonDKC/BA-Grp-1.jpgi15.photobucket.com/albums/a371/NewtonDKC/BA-grp-2.jpgi15.photobucket.com/albums/a371/NewtonDKC/BA-Grp-3.jpg

Good pictures, i'm really dissapointed with the size of Fred and the problem to me started with deluxe Buffy, she's too taller for be Buffy, sure her likeness is excellent, but Sarah is a hot shorty blond. Now a final question, if you stand the new figures of Angel with the movie maniacs, are they for the same size?.

Movie Maniacs? Not quite sure I know what those are...is that another figure line?
And yeah, the Deluxe Figures were certainly slightly larger than the regular line, but I think no one really got bent out of shape about those as they were considered a "separate" line, though of course I absolutely loved them. I think a lot of that was due to them being the first "new" Buffy figures we had gotten since the Series 2 Moore Figure, and though when I first saw the pics I wasn't impressed, when I got them and actually tried out the super poseability, I LOVED them. So I was totally able to overlook the size difference as it being (maybe) necessary to do the line in an affordable way (I guess I figured the main body was maybe a template or something). And even though they were taller, like someone else said, the scale was still the same or at least compatible - in fact, many of us have used the Deluxe heads on regular bodies and it pretty much looks fine. Try using Fred's Head on any of the old - or even Deluxe - bodies...it just isn't possible. Fred's not only taller, but bulkier, just "bigger", her head, her arms, etc. She's just not the same scale anyway you try to put it (many have pointed out with Wes and Lorne, new Angels, etc they look fine...I see what they mean, but disagree as Fred should still be "tiny" compared to them. She just looks okay because they are such "big" guys. Does that make sense?
Anyway, I don't think DST made some horrible scale adjustment, at least not on purpose. Maybe they only compare their figures to their figures...well, nah because Willow looks like a midget next to Fred (for real). I would like DST to explain what happened - and believe me, given the support they've shown for the line and the Buffy/Angel Fandom they've claimed in general, I'm sure once they realized it, it was either too late to change them or correct them, etc. Maybe this is what delayed the line a couple weeks, but there just wasn't anyway to correct it that late in the game?
Either way, mistakes certainly happen, and though I'm certainly not loving the scale problem, I really REALLY hope it is just a problem with the Fred and Illyria Figures and NOT indicative of a change for the whole line. Some people have said the protoypes of Buffy and Dawn don't seem abnormal like Fred (abnormal being the word I've bring trying to think of!), but I personally wonder how big the Fred prototype was. Sure, it's bad to have something like this happen, but I'd much rather it be a one-time mistake than a change in the line in general.
Who knows, maybe DST will stop prod on Fred and then someday "Big Fred" will be like a collector's item or something...I'd love a regular scale Fred, and in all honesty, if I can make one with a dremel in an afternoon, then I'm assuming an adjustment could be made to the production process (though IF this run is completed, this could be prohibitively expensive for DST to do, but maybe the company that actually produces the figures - if it was some type of error on their part (i.e weird materials that didn't shrink as I've read plastic figures do after being made) or some contract on quality with the company in China (I think they say "Made in China") then we may or may not ever get a "corrected" Fred.
Funny though to think someday people might be paying huge sums of $$$ for Abnormal Fred - but collectors do weird things, expecially for weird production errors or other "rare" things (and not really hopeful big Fred will become "rare", but we can hope!). :-)
Anyway - DST - I for one am still a big fan of yours, and am still very grateful for the work you have done on the Buffy and Angel line. Sure, we'd love to hear your input (even iif you were shocked too, made a simple mistake in product appproval - whatever it is, I'd still like to hear it so we can be assured that DST isn't saying "Fred's fine, what are you people complaining about?" and that this isn't the "new" scale... which I think has people far more worried about future female figs - esp Buffy and Dawn's wave - than they are about Fred. Certainly Fred fans aren't happy and understandably but in comparison to things happening in the world today, it's really not a big deal people (get it? Big Deal? Nevermind, just trying to make peace thru lauughter).
Anyway, Stuff happens - and again, I'd rather have this Fred (customs people!) than no Fred at all!!! :-)
Newton (who has made peace with Big Fred after calming down after the initial shock). :-)

It's darn right disapointing to have two different scales. I think DST messsed up big time. Lets hope the future waves get it right.

Movie Maniacs are mcfarlane figures about excellent horror movies, like Ash, Norman Bates, and others link:http://mcfarlane.com/toys/series.aspx?series=8. Damn the problem with Fred are massive words. Newton just a final request can you put Spike, Wesley and Angel in comparation only them and can you put Cordelia, Angel and Buffy in the same line in other picture, i really want to see that. Just for end, we should ask Dst about a new Fred in good scale, we need one. And i hope that Buffy and Dawn are smaller, my big problem now is, we already know that Dawn is bigger than Buffy, cross finger for Dst won't blow it again. Fred was wrong, i saw the prototype pictures and she just didn't look thin, and the neck is diferent at the final.

*Dies of Heart Attack* Oh My God! Fred next to Spike and Buffy! That is just terrible! It's like they're from two different lines. She seems alright next to Wesley but next to everyone else, Fred is awful. I'm going to have to display her with the rest of the Angel 4 Figures... that's even if I bother to pick up this laughable piece of merchandise. Really disappointed.

I am just happy to have the figures at all. They look great next to Wesley and the new Angels and the likeness as well as the detail in this wave is really good for all the figures that I have so far.
I'm not sure why DST suddenly decided to start making the line taller, but personally I'm fine either way as long as the figures keep coming I'll keep buying them all! Thank You DST!

Spike is also way too little compared to the new Angel. But it's a little more acceptable with Angel, because David was taller and bulkier.

I really love these figures, but this scale thing on Fred is ridiculous. I was planning on buying multiples for customs, but the scale is just way too much.
I REALLY hope that the upcoming Buffy and Dawn figures return to the normal scale. If not, I'll be extremely disappointed and may just quit buying Buffy figures.
Come on, DST, please don't continue with this larger scale. PLEASE return to the original scale.
