CMK, will you be able to tell us what place everybody got? 1-43? Or are you just going to tell us the winners. I've read all of them, and now I'm narrowing down my votes...

CMK, will you be able to tell us what place everybody got? 1-43? Wouldn't that be a bit harsh? I think that we should just post the winner and the runners up, and then with a little 'Merit' notice just saying other Poems with scored highly.

I'm glad to hear people are reading all of them because mine is one of the last ones on the page and my fear is that people will get bored or tired after reading the first 10 or 20 or 30 and never make it to mine and just vote for ones they've already read. And that would totally suck for me. So if you feel you might get tired reading them, start at the bottom Ok, I'm finished begging. Can you tell I really want that VEngeance Box set?

Seriously, everyone should read each poem and vote sincerely. If you are not going to read each poem then you should not even bother voting because that takes away from each member of this forum who made an effort to write their poem. There are five days left which is plenty of time to finish reading each poem. Again, everyone should be fair and take some time and read each poem, Thank you.

LOL. You guys sound paranoid. What I did is split up time by reading through some of the poems, and then wrote down the entry numbers I liked and then finished reading later more, and then put down those numbers. Then I narrowed it down to my top 5 favorites.

Once you have selected your 5 poems go to Members, then go to show by letter and press 'B', when you have a list of all 'B' members search through it until you see somebody called 'BloodyAwfulPoetry' and send them a PM with your choices. I hope this has cleared things up for you.

Members of BtVSFigs who would like to vote should PM their top 5 poem choices to BloodyAwfulPoetry (link to BTVS Figs Forum below). Non-members should e-mail their top 5 poem choices to CMK1887@aol.com. Make sure to put "Bloody Awful Poetry" as the subject, or it could be deleted. Voting will be open until February 18, 2005 at 11:59pm central time.

I'm glad people are reading all of them too, and like someone said, we really need to read ALL of them to make this work properly. C'mon, we can do it!
43 is too much to read at once, so I'm just reading five at a time. I have a pad with the numbers in rows of five. I'll read those five, circle the ones I know I like for sure, and underline what I'll come back to later.
Then a little later I'll read five more, and they won't start to run together. I'm actually enjoying so many that I don't want to stop, but to be fair I'm making myself.

Reading through all the entries reminded me of the days when I was a teaching assistant in the English Dept at U.W.O. and I used to mark freshman essays. This time I wasn't getting paid for it though! LOL
I am very curious why so many people who entered adopted such a similar style for their poems (i.e. that traditional, sing-song, lyrical style). As someone who has studied literature and who has an interest in popular culture and psychology, it is very interesting to me.

I think it has something to do with Spike's personality. Spike was always a very 'song' like speaker and that style really captures him whether describing or writing as him.

Personally...I can't write poems for crap...so i just made a funny one. I was surprised by how many of the entries were serious. The title alone made me want to come up with a silly little limerick or some crappy rhyme poem.

I'd intended to write something silly; my first notes were "bloody hell," "sodding," and "bollocks," but I went in a different direction and dropped all my early notes. :-)
It's driving me nuts waiting for the votes to be tallied.

I was going to write a silly one but then I realised I didnt have a comedy bone in my body, so I decided to write kind of a gothic tradegy one. The voting ends on friday so theres not that long to wait to find out the winners!

I'd say people chose a rhyming and metered style simply because its the most familiar. Modernist poetry and subsequent styles like free verse are still mostly for real enthusiasts or academics, while traditional types of rhyming are common place since we were children. Kids in school are more apt to encounter Shakespeare first before moving onto William Carlos Williams and others. I guess a lot of these are light-hearted too, so that sing-song style lends itself to humor. Maybe half are serious? I haven't read them all yet.
I'm surprised we didn't see any rappin' yet. No one down with the bleach blonde bleedin', slayer slammin' rhyming skillz?

My entry was one of the ones near the end, so very glad to hear people are taking the time to read through all the entries. Lots of fun poems--found my top 5 jumped out at me easily, but there were loads of great entries to choose from.
