EXCELLENT!
So, Number Six is confirmed and they included Apollo in their announcement photo/picture so I would guess that he is included in the first assortment as well.
They mentioned "several" characters which to me would read as more than three to me (and that's the dictionary definition as well). So, if there is another two characters to be announced for the first series, I would go for . . . . . . not sure.
I don't think they'll "pair-up" the characters in the first series, in order to encourage people to stick around for a second series so I would rule out Baltar and Starbuck on that basis (since they're commonly "paired" with Six and Apollo). Not sure they would put father and son in the first wave, but could see Adama Snr as being a distinct possibility.
Also not sure they would have another female in the first wave, so rule out Roslin and probably not another Cylon so rule out Sharon/Boomer/Athena/Number 8.
Leaving the likes of Tigh, Helo, Tyrol, Dee, the other Cylons, etc. I might guess at Helo and Adama Snr then.
So: Six, Apollo, Helo and Admiral Adama (not sure on his most recent ranking as we're behind down under). I'm tempted to add in a Cylon Centurion, but not sure how the "army builder" figure in Stargate Series 1 sold? If it did really well, then I could see DST doing the same for BSG, but in my local toy stores it sat on the shelves and went nowhere.
BUT if I could pick my "ideal" line it would be: Helo, Athena, Adama Snr and NUMBER 3!
Being a massive Xenite, I REALLY hope they get around to making a Number 3. With 4 figures per wave, I could see it happening. They also specifically mention her appearance in the press release and as I understand she plays a fairly important role in season 3.
REALLY looking forward to Toy Fair now.
Cheers, Haeph.

Awesome. I've been waiting since, wow, since October 2005 -- that's when I started blogging about where the heck are the action figures for the new Galactica! I am relieved. I will be twice as relieved if Diamond announces that the people doing the sculpts are Plan B Toys! Or Art Asylum!
This is awesome news.

I really hope they make Starbuck. She's my fave character on the show. And I would love to have a Tyrol figure!

I wonder how DST will approach variants with there being more characters in each line?
Their somewhat "standard" operating procedure seems to be two characters with a couple of variants each and the "third" (eg Wood, SG-1 Guard and Thor) no variants.
Most of the pilots have pretty easy variants - "casual" (with their singlets/tank tops), "pilot" (grey jumpsuit) and "dress" (dark blue dress uniforms). And Six could just be different coloured dresses or possibly a "Gina" though that would require a new body sculpt since I don't recall her ever wearing anything similar to what Baltar-Six wore (but she may have worn something similar to a Caprica-Six).
Not sure about Tigh, Admiral Adama, Roslin, Tyrol etc. Perhaps they'll be the figures selected to not have variants since their looks are pretty "standard". Same for the majority of the humanoid Cylons as well.
And I'm guessing they'll go with 7" for scale, in line with Star Trek and SG-1.
Cheers, Haeph.

I hope they make many, many more outfits than the Stargate line. The Stargate line is good but BORING with everyone in identical clothes.
For Galactica, fortunately there's a half dozen different outfits -- and don't forget for Starbuck there's also her dad's leather jacket, and her outfit when she went back to Caprica.
Plus she should also have a cigar-smoking variation or two, and there's plenty of different hair lengths and tattoos.
The flight crew's orange jumpsuits will add some color to the otherwise green and blue line.
It will be extremely unfortunate if they just make one male body and one female body, have them both in flight suits, and call it a day. I am hoping for a variety of costumes, reflecting exactly how rag tag the characters get.
Baltar needs to have both shaven and unshaven looks, come to think of it. Doctor whites, suit, suit crumpled, there's so much potential.
I share your hope for a 7" scale. Not the 8+" scale of the Star Trek figures, but the 7" scale of the Stargate figures.

I'm not sure what Baltar-Six is, but if you're talking about season 3 please be careful.

Not talking about season 3 as its not showing down under.
I call Baltar's "imaginary" Six the "Baltar-Six". I'm not sure what the "official" name for that variation would be. But its possibly the most basic of the Sixes.

I just as well start sending my paychecks to DST since they've got me for Buffy, Star Trek, a little Stargate, and now BSG. ;D

Great, i love BSG. I really would love an Apollo, a Starbuck, one of Lucy Lawless' character and an Anders figure. The last one's probably a bit too hopeful as they have a huge cast and i'm guessing plenty of other people to do before Anders.

I'm collecting those too and don't forget Serenity, and Angel. It's like DST is the one company that is making everything I want. So glad they got Battlestar Galalctica. It's my favorite show right now. I will be collecting them all. Looks like this is going to be one busy summer for me.

Re: Season 3 down under
I haven't been following channel 10's programming since I just grabbed the Australian release of the DVDs when they were released (even though we missed out on some of the special features in the 2.5 release in the US).
So, not sure what episode channel 10 are up to, but given their treatment of the show, I doubt they would be planning to show season 3 with any regularity or at a decent time slot (if at all). I'm hoping we get another DVD release which is almost concurrent with the end of season 3 in the US (so possibly in 3 months time).
However, I'd love to be proven wrong by channel 10. Then again, its channel 10? They treat something like Supernatural pretty decently with a consistent and good timeslot, but Veronica Mars and BSG they treat so poorly in comparison (reminds me of when they aired the final season of Xena at 1am on Thursday mornings).
Re: BSG Action Figures
Just going off the "main" characters:
- Admiral Adama - President Roslin - Starbuck - Apollo - Baltar - Six - Sharon/Boomer - Tigh - Helo - Tyrol - Gaeta - Cally - Dee - Number 3 (D'anna) - Number 5 (Doral) - Cavil - Leoben - Simon
So, about 18 or so. But not sure all of those would be "figure" characters (eg Cally, Dee, Gaeta and some of the Cyclons) so say 14 characters with 4 in each wave, that would only be 4 waves to get "most" of the "big" names.
Of course, that doesn't take into account any new characters or any minor characters from the earlier seasons who might have a larger role.
Also depends how they do variants of the figures. Starbuck's variants could be spread out over 3 or 4 waves (eg one Starbuck in every wave).
Will definitely be interesting to hear more. And also hope they turn out as impressive as the SG-1 figures (which I haven't purchased, but may end up doing, at least the "core 4" and the two Farscape leads).
Cheers, Haeph.

And a big congrats to Art Asylum! Pics from the 2007 UK ToyFair reveal the sculptors to be Art Asylum's inmates! See the pics here: www.action-figure.com/events/main.php?g2_itemId=57021Captain Lee Adama "Apollo" (Flight Suit) - Prototype sketches show Lee Adama in flight suit, with what looks like an alternate head w/helmet (a la Phlox from Art Asylum's old Enterprise line...or maybe it is just a helmet that manages to fit over the head*), and sets of gloved and ungloved hands. Other accessories include a sidearm. Number Six (Red Dress) - Prototype sketches show Number Six in her best known red dress, and no extras determined yet -- her ever-present bracelet is not pictured but presumably that will be with the finished figure. The designation of "(Red Dress)" is hopefully a sign we'll be seeing a lot more of her in different outfits. Lee is 7 1/8" tall and Six towers above in her heels at 7 1/4". These designs show 20 points of articulation, and hopefully there will be enough of a splash (in retailer interest) to make that possible. I don't doubt there will be -- these look awesome! *Possibly, two entirely different figures will have to be made, because the sketch shows that the entire collar area of the jacket has to be zipped up when the helmet it worn. That doesn't look possible. So, maybe they are still figuring that one out. I wouldn't mind two figures, if that has to be done.

Thanks for the info and link.
Looks great. Cannot say I'm disappointed with their selection of costumes for these characters as they are pretty "signature" outfits.
I would take a guess and say the "helmet" Apollo is a variant, but it would be excellent if the helmet was simply an accessory and the "zipped/un-zipped" differences just a mistake in the sketches.
And the articulation is pretty much perfect. While I may be an articulation whore, I'm respectful of their desire to balance sculpt and articulation and I think the articulation counts are pretty much perfect for that:
- Ball jointed neck - Ball jointed shoulders - Swivel bicep - Pin elbows - Swivel wrists - Swivel waist - Hinged "T" hips (front and back and to the side) - Swivel thigh - Pin knees - Pin ankles
Especially loving the fact the hips are hinged. And the fact they're 7" scale.
These could easily become some of my favourite action figures ever if they can live up to my rather lofty expectations.
Cannot wait until the rest of series 1 is revealed, including the other characters and possibly prototypes.
I wonder if lack of evident accessories could mean each figure comes with a small version of their most "linked" ship? So, Six could come with a Cylon raider, etc. Or they might come with "build a diorama" type bases similar to SG-1 (though SG-1 figures also come with tonnes of accessories in addition to their bases).
Cheers, Haeph.

Six is 71/4" tall and these are being made by AA. I guess they will be in scale with the Star Trek figures and not the Stargate SG-1's. I can't wait to battle Six vs red dress Glory. Glory needs a big sis.

So it's definately Six and Appollo and hopefully two more. I won't be satified until they release all seven of the main cast members. I like all the secondary characters listed above but definately think Tigh, Helo, and Tyrol need to be made. l would love to get some of the important guest stars like D'Anna, Sam Anders, Tom Zarek and Adm Cain. We also need a Cylon Centurian.

Over in another thread at the Art Asylum board, Hairy_Little_Muffin says
"Just remember to . . .adjust you Diamond Select Radical email settings. Check the box for Battlestar Galactica under are you interested in . You never know when they'll send out free galactica swag."
Good advice! I just adjusted myself. Ahem.
