Wow! That is one mighty awesome Will Turner figure!! I'm on the fence with catch lights. My Sarah Jane figure has such big catch light paint that she looks like a zombie! When you say there is heated debate about the catch lights, what do you mean? mainly pro or con? Mostly con these days. It's quite the debate at the Sideshow boards, because they do it on every figure, rather than allowing the figure to have natural catchlights.

A couple weeks ago I covered the deluxe and basic Wall-E action figures. I've since gotten three of the electronic versions, and I'm reviewing the larger UCommand version tonight. This guy costs $50, but he's a pretty sweet RC version. The written review and photos cover the basics, but let's face it - you can't really explain the actions of an RC with words and still photos. So I'm doing something a little different tonight, and adding a video component. It's not brand new to mwctoys, since the terrific Jeff Parker has done it a couple times in his guest reviews, but it's new to my reviews and new to me. If you like this sort of thing, I'll include it in the future when there are particularly complicated action features to explain. This one is a little longer than I'd like at 7 minutes, but damn there was a lot Wall-E could do! In the future, I'd keep them down in the 3 - 4 minute max. The review is at the usual: www.mwctoys.comThanks for reading! Michael MWC

The new Hulk movie is hitting this weekend, but I looked at that line ages ago. No, it's time to look forward a bit further, into the middle of July, for the next installment of Hellboy! I have a very early review up tonight of the terrific 3 3/4" Mezco line. And it is terrific, meeting the high expectations set by their previous movie line. The one I'm looking at tonight is the SDCC exclusive, but don't forget to get your boxed set of the regular figures preordered early if you plan on getting them. I figured I do a full Hellboy night all around too, with not one but two guest reviews on retro Hellboy figures. One is from the dynamic father/son team of Steve and Evan JOnes, and covers the Sammael figure from the old Mezco 7" line. The other is from Mike Tansey and covers the more recent Gentle Giant take on the movie Hellboy. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comI also have a review up over at QSE on the latest Gentle Giant Star Wars mini-bust, the Tusken Raider. I don't know exactly when it will go up tonight though, so you might have to check back. I also wanted to welcome a new sponsor tonight - ShowPiece Collectibles! Hit the link on the main site to check out their site. Please remember, it's the sponsors that make it possible for me to keep doing what I do. Thanks for reading! Michael MWC

I've been blessed this last week with some really exceptional collectibles hitting the doorstop. Tonight I have my third ***1/2 star review in a row, and this one should really be four for most folks. I had some specific paint issues that I bet are not consistent across the line, but I had to take them into account. And what is this beautiful beast? It's the new 18" Alien from NECA. This is the one based on the original film, in articulated action figure form, like the old Kenner days. The sculpting is fantastic, the paint work terrific, and the articulation suprisingly good. And the best part? You get this huge, amazing looking solid figure for around $40. This isn't just one of the best figures I've seen in awhile, it's one of the best values. You can find the review at the usual: www.mwctoys.comSorry about any trouble getting to the site Tuesday night - my provider had a power outage due to the storms, and for some reason the backup generator didn't kick in automatically. If you missed out on the Mezco Hellboy review I posted that night, now's the time to check it out, along with the QSE review of the Tusken Raider mini-bust. Thanks for reading, and have a terrific weekend! Michael MWC

For all the pops out there, happy Father's Day! The reviews today have nothing to do with it, but I wanted to send a call out to all my brethren anyway. As Sideshow's relationship with Hot Toys goes from early dating to heavy petting, the effect on their figures becomes more obvious. Hot Toys worked with them on the latest Lord of the Rings figures, Frodo and Sam, and it's like a whole new breed of sixth scale figure. Sam is the best LOTR figure SS has done to date, and while Frodo has a few issues, he's mighty nice as well. The guest review is from Hot Toys - it's karma! Jeff Parker checks out the 1/4 scale Rambo bust they've just released. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comThanks for reading! Michael MWC

I’m on perhaps my longest streak of high scoring reviews in history, with five in a row at ***1/2 or **** stars! Okay, if you’ve been reading the Quick Stop reviews too, you’ll have noticed the high scores aren’t necessarily over there, but let’s just stick with MROTW and see if we can keep this streak alive… Tonight I’m wrapping up the latest in the Futurama license – Bender! I already covered Kif Kroker a couple weeks ago, but hadn’t gotten my Bender yet at that point. And I’ll also be looking at the Robot Devil BAF for the series, although he isn’t the main focus of the review. Can Bender keep the streak alive? You’ll have to hit the usual to find out: www.mwctoys.com Over at Quick Stop, my review of the Bob Kane Batman Black and White statue should be going up sometime tonight. Let’s just say that if the review was on my site, the streak would end. Thanks for reading! Michael MWC

With five high scoring reviews in a row, the streak of amazing toys has been, well, amazing! Can tonight’s contenders keep the dream alive? Unfortunately, no. I’m looking at the Sideshow exclusive versions of Shaun and Ed from the terrific flick Shaun of the Dead. With the popularity of sixth scale zombies these days, you’d think having a couple recognizable zombie killers in the mix would make for a terrific display. The end result is less than attractive, however. Originally, I thought the head sculpts and paint would let me down, but it turns out that the old Sideshow body and the awful costumes did these two in. However, you’ll get a chance to see a photo of an upcoming zombie in one photo…wonder who’s making that one? I also have a guest review from Jin Saotome on the NECA Soul Reaver Raziel figures. He loves them – NECA is definitely having a great year. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.com Thanks for reading, and have a great weekend! Michael MWC

If you guessed that I'm excited about the release of The Dark Knight film on July 18th, you'd be right. I have my tickets for the IMAX showing already bought and paid for, and with every trailer and sneak peak my anticipation builds. With such a couple dirth of figures at the stores though, I was very happy to see DC Direct get their 13" Deluxe figures out early. As you know, I've not been a big fan of the deluxe series, but I'm happy to say that the Joker is the best figure in the line to date, and is actually worth the bucks. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Batman, but there's always Hot Toys. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comThanks for reading! Michael MWC

Earlier this week I looked at two large scale Dark Knight figures, the Batman and Joker from the DC Deluxe 13" line. Tonight I check out the same two characters, just in a much smaller scale. Mattel is producing a series of 4" figures based on the film, and I'm looking at the two pack of Bats and the Clown Prince. These figures are scaled down versions of the kid's line, and somehow they managed to take most of the problems of that line and make them worse. Over at QSE, I have a review up of the Figures.com exclusive Seventh Kingdom Ssejjhhorr from the Four Horsemen. They had one Hell of a year with the factories, but they finally got the complete shipment of these terrific figures. That review should go up sometime tonight, depending on when the folks at QSE can get to publishing it. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comThanks for reading! Michael MWC

This weekend we get to see one of the most anticipated movies of the summer - Wall-E! Can Pixar do it again? It sure looks like it... I've got a review up of the electronic iDance and Interactive Wall-E toys, along with another video look at their action features. These are definitely fun toys, and I bet they dry up pretty quickly once the film hits. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comThanks for reading, and have a great weekend! Tonight's review covers a couple figures that were already covered by the great guest reviewer, Jeff Parker, but I was moved enough to want to do my own review as well. It's the Cannibal Jack and Davy Jones from Hot Toys in their Pirates of the Caribbean line. Interestingly enough, one of these figures is perhaps the best 12" figure of the year, and the other is a bit of a disappointment. Which is which? Read the review to find out! You can find it at the usual: www.mwctoys.comWould you like to know in advance what I'll be covering each week? I usually know, and I could let you in on it early each week - for example, this week you should see reviews of the Indy Mighty Muggs, as well as the new Sideshow Han Solo, with a third still to be determined. Thanks for reading! Michael MWC

It wasn’t the original plan, but it looks like this is going to be an all sixth scale week, and will cover three different companies no less. Sunday was the Hot Toys Cannibal Jack and Davy of course, and tonight I’m following up with the latest Sideshow Star Wars release – Tatooine Smuggler Han Solo! Right out of the box I was pretty ho-hum on this guy, but the more I posed and shot him, the more I liked him. He’s not a perfect Ford/Solo likeness, but he’s an improvement on what we’ve had up to this point, and the major issue here is that you’re paying $65 and still getting the old Buck body. You can find the review at the usual: www.mwctoys.com Coming Thursday night will be the Medicom VCD Wicket, which was sold to us under the theory that like the Yoda, he’d fit in with our sixth scale figures. We’ll see on Thursday night…Check out the new MROTW Sponsor, Toys by Shopping.Com (Australia) is a comparison shopping site that is a part of the eBay family. Thanks for reading! Michael MWC

Medicom's VCD Yoda is a terrific figure that fits in great with both Medicom and Sideshow Star Wars figures, and so it was with great anticipation that I ordered their Wicket. Hey, I'm not a big Ewok fan, but I'm game for any great Star Wars figure to add to the sixth scale collection. Unfortunately, Wicket is no Yoda. Big Guido checks in with the first part of two covering the new Hellboy II 7" figures. He's looking at Hellboy, Liz and Johann first, covering the other three next week. You'll be informed, entertained, and perhaps offended by the time BG is done with you - you can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comHappy 4th to my fellow Americans, and have a great weekend to everyone! Ah, good old computers. One of mine, the one I use for most email, is having issues, so there won't be an email update tonight in all likelihood. Hopefully I won't lose too much data. *fingers crossed* But the regular update made it up - it's the first part of a Marvel Legends Hulk wave review. I have only four figures so far - Savage Hulk, Wendigo, Absorbing Man and Doc Samson - but with eight figures in a wave, there's too many to cover in one shot anyway. I like the sculpts on most of these, but let's face it, Ab-man and Samson aren't exactly the most exciting characters, and poor Hulk and Wendigo are screwed up by awful paint washes. And let's not forget the new $15 price tag! If you aren't interested in Foom, I can't imagine you being happy about it. I also have part two of Big Guido's review of Hellboy II figures - Abe, Wink, and Nuada - with his usual commentary and flair. Tonight is the first of TWO...count them TWO...Indiana Jones reviews in a row. Tonight I'm looking at the new Indy Mighty Muggs from Hasbro. I've been pretty good about staying away frmo the Muggs so far, as cute as they are, but the Indy versions sucked me in. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comBTW, it looks like my emails and contacts have taken a major hit in this hard drive crash. As promised, tonight is the second of two Indy collectible reviews in a row. I'm checking out the new statues (model kits) from Kotobukiya of Indy and his dad, Henry Jones Sr. These are a mixed bag. Like many of the Kotobukiya human likenesses, the head sculpts are lacking in some ways. From certain angles (and certain conditions) they look great, and from others, not so great. But the work on the body, the design of the poses, and the interchangeable parts manage to keep these guys afloat. You can find all the reviews at the usual: www.mwctoys.comUnfortunately, my hard drive crash took out almost all my email. If you've sent me anything recently and haven't gotten a response, or sent me a guest review that hasn't gotten posted, please resend, as all that is now history. Have a great weekend! Michael MWC
