I'm hoping this 'old villain' may just be Drusilla. I mean, how many villains did Buffy come up against and not kill? (Hoping Spike and Angel remain good, in LA. Oh, and Faith too...)
EDIT: And DWW...
Well, Sweet springs to mind, but I can't imagine he'd work very well in comics.

I love SMG as BUffy but I could care less if Joss replaced her, if that is the only way he can get it done. I think if Joss decides to ever make another Buffy movie, he should be able to even if SMG wants no part of it. I want any more Buffy/Angel I can get in any visual form, be it, movies, series, mini-series, cartoons, video game, whatever. Maybe if the Wonder Woman Movie is a big hit, Joss will be able to make what he wants and those actors that want to participate can and the one's that don't should be written out or replaced.

I would hate to see SMG replaced and think it would ruin the entire BuffyVerse! SMG is known as Buffy, not even Joss can take that away. If she isn't ready for a movie, then let her be. She worked her but off for us for 7 years and is trying to do new things. Give her time

Upon entering the Dark Horse area, I asked a rep about the new Buffy comics...
He got pretty excited and began to elaborate a bit. He pointed at the large lighted poster of the new cover we have seen hanging on one display while he said:
"The new Buffy comics are going to be amazing! That over there is the cover for the first issue of the new run called Season 8. There are more covers than that, and the art style inside will be similar. It looks great. Joss is handling the writing and it will be official."
Anything more you can tell me?!
"I can't talk about story lines or what characters are going to be in it. That will kill the surprise and that's not nice."
Ok so I was hooked and I wanted a copy!!
"Sorry buddy, but you are in for a long wait. Joss is about half way done, and the art is moving along fine as well but don't expect to see the first issue until JANUARY."
My heart sunk and I thanked him. And walked away sadly.

That's sad! I mean January? At least we have some pretty nice merchandise on the way to fill the time. I wish you could take a pic of that cover poster... If there are variant covers for each issue then boy I'm in trouble. I'm gonna have to get each and every one of them which is really not cheap... I hope Joss will bring Drusilla back or some story arc with Proserpexa could work fine. Thanks for the info.

And here I was hoping for October. Oh well, like funlittlebugger said, we have lots of cool stuff coming out by January so it shouldn't be too long of wait. Thanks for the info, Cowboy Guy.

She IS Buffy. And I honestly do think she would come back to do a movie if the timing and story were right. In any event, I am thrilled beyond words that we have the Comic Season 8 to look forward to - even if we have to wait until January! Anne

I'm amped but not holding my breath really. I don't want Joss to get any ideas about trying to warm us up to the Immortal or a club hopping party Buffy, I want action and drama. I also hope he'll really push the look of the series into the comics because as far as I'm concerned, that's never actually happened with the artists they've had for previous issues. But still, if Joss is behind it then it can't stray too far from excellent.

I would prefer if they done this like the graphic novel "Creature Of The Habit" The art in that novel was out of this world and it seemed more like a real story than speech bubbles. Since i'm not a huge comic geek and own no buffy comics apart from one signed one from Danny Strong. I feel that the storyline isn't taken into as much depth as a novel is. But i think they have already decided that it will be done the speech bubble way.

Thanks for the news Cowboy Guy. I am so relieved at the preview artwork. I think Georges has really grown as an artist since I last saw his work. I cannot wait for this. It's OFFICIAL NEW BUFFY!

Wow. I just heard that they are going to expand the season 8 Buffy comics to 20 issues! Apparently Joss has alot more to say than he did when it was first announced. Anybody know if it is true or just rumor?

How often will these be coming out? Once a month for 20 months or what?

20 issues would be great! Even better - I wish they would make it a new monthly. They could do a bunch of mini-series like they are doing for Angel (even though the publisher is different, but along the same lines). This is so great. I'm a wicked comic hoarder and have nearly every Buffy and Angel comics and variant less one! That one darn variant is nowhere to be found! I keep telling myself that it will turn up sometime...sigh...

This is SO exciting. I just began collecting the old Dark Horse Buffy/Angel comics in trade paperback form. I'm also collecting all of the IDW Angel mini series. Most off the Dark Horse and IDW stories are pretty weak, but a few of them, especially those written by the television show writters are incredible.
I believe with Joss at the helm and a competent writting staff backing him up, the story will stay interesting and true to character. Comic books allow for limitless boundaries, I hope that is taken advantage of. Our scoobies do not need to remain in Sunnydale or any part of the world for that matter. They could be exploring a different part of the world every few issues. While the story should connect issues, someone should be able to pick up a random issue and have some idea what is going on. You should be able to enjoy each issue without having seen every episode of the show and without having read every issue before it. This will likely be the biggest challenge for the writers.
As long as the artisitic staff keeps character images very close to the actors image, BTS fans will be interested. You do not want to turn off a less than hardcore Buffy fan with overly stylized characters.
If this comic series can breath life back into the Buffy universe by attracting some new fans there might be some hope for some movies or another spin-off television series. It would be easy to produce a comic that only hardcore Buffy fans will enjoy. The trick will be putting out something that can attract new fans while still satisfying veterans of the Buffyverse.

From George Jeanty's site:
NEWS * 07.21.06
Hype and anticipation is building over the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book written by her creator Joss Whedon and penciled by our Georges!
EW.com (Entertainment Weekly) recently posted a first look at the cover of issue #1. Click on the link below for the full story and some fan comments.
EW - FIRST LOOK AT THE NEW BUFFY COMIC
NOTE: We would like to retract for EW.com who mistakenly reported that Georges did the cover art of #1. The truth is, G's barely gotten into drawing the comic yet because he's finishing up The American Way. Keep you eye on this space as more becomes available!

The trick will be putting out something that can attract new fans while still satisfying veterans of the Buffyverse. If the comic was bought by just one in every ten people who tuned into the average Buffy episode while it was one the air, it would be one of the top-selling comics of the last 8 years. The Buffy fanbase is absolutely huge for the world of comics. For that reason Dark Horse has never actively tried to get non-fans to pick up the books (though it has happened several times as seen in the letters pages). It's easier to try to get existing fans to pick up the books than total newcomers. Of course that is sure to happen anyway!
