Why do you think that? If Joss feels that this is his last outlet for Buffy, then why not?
He's writting it. It's just like a season. The final arc. If Joss feels that maybe the Buffy movie is a bit too far off, and will never happen, why not kill off someone?

I doubt Joss wil kill off such a big character in a comic book! I know he is writing it, but he wouldn't do that since not all buffy fans read the comics. He isn't writing the whole series of comic books, he is starting it and just keeping an eye on the storylines.

Since Joss is considering this a season I can see him killing a major character off, maybe not in the mini though. Unless the character is killed off with in the first issue it won't be addressed properly. If a major character is killed off further down the line? Well some fans will write this off as non-canon despite what Joss says because it's a comic book.

I read Joss' blog on Whedonverse a little while ago that said that the comic series would introduce a story arc that could continue in the potential Spike movie and 'other things'. How awesome would it be if he did this series and the storyline innitially set up in the comics went on to be a big screen buffy movie!

These comics sound cool. We needed more stories on after Buffy season 7 and now we have some. Yay! I'm starting to read "Queen of the Slayers" and it's really good. I think Xander will die. Yes, I said and I'm glad. I think Xander will die in one of the issues. Killed, maimed, and murdered. Joss thought of killing Xander in "Dirty Girls," and having him return in the last episode as the First. It would have been awesome if he'd gone through with it. Might have made "Chosen" just a tad more interesting. I'm sick of the happy ending. I know what you mean about happy endings, but I don't want Xander to die in a Buffy comic. Save it for a spin-off or a movie of some sort. (If we get one or the other, or both! lol) I read Joss' blog on Whedonverse a little while ago that said that the comic series would introduce a story arc that could continue in the potential Spike movie and 'other things'. Sounds great! At first I wasn't too keen on the idea, but then I realised that it's better to get this than nothing at all. And since most of the Season Eight Fanfics I've read have been relatively weak, I'm very much looking forward to an offical, well-put-to-together story. I'm looking forward to seeing the style of art.

The reason i doubt that a main character would be killed off, is because, as afer said, not everyone reads comic books.
Even if the chances of a buffy tv movie are slim, if it did happen, can you imagine how pissed off fans would be if they found out xander (or another main character) was dead??? Everyone would be like "er, when did that happen?".
Personally, i'd hate to see a character get killed in a comic. It wouldn't be as emotional, and it would seem a cheap way to get rid of a well loved character.

I agree completely, and not only would it not work for the people who don't read them, even the people who do read them would still get pissed off- Seeing a much loved character like Xander (Even though I'm not a big fan of him) get killed in a couple of colored in drawings and speech bubbles!

I think it could be executed very well. I mean, Joss hinted Buffy's death in Fray. We're not sure if it is Buffy, but if it is, well there you go. Joss showed Buffy's demise, or at least what we think is her demise.

Yes? But it still depicted the scene of her death, the image giving off the feeling that she was still quite young. Well, it was really just a big black outline, but how many fifty-year-old ladies do you see fighting demons in a skirt? It showed Buffy(or who we assume)'s death. Written by Joss Whedon. Fray flew off the shelves. It seems that main characters in the show dieing in a comic book works out.
Again, these are my opinions. You don't have to agree with them. I've always been a bit of a "comic book geek" so I'm used to seeing my favorite characters die on the pages of a comic book.

I've always been a bit of a "comic book geek" so I'm used to seeing my favorite characters die on the pages of a comic book. That's probably why we differ with our opinions. I'm not much of a comic book reader. In fact i've only started reading them since the new ones came out (ie 'angel: the curse' and onwards). To me, the stories told in the comic books are adventures that may have gone on between episodes. Things that could have happened when we weren't looking. But I don't take them as gospel. I'm a bit of a purist in that if it doesn't happen on the show, then it doesn't really happen. I find the comics entertaining and all, but i'd hate for something major (such as a death) to occur in one of them.

I think comics are fun and yeah cool, but if someone like Willow died, I would just shrug it off, cause it didn't happen in film and its not really Willow, its a drawing... Unless its Alyson Hannigan acting it out, I don't count Willow as dead. Plus, alot of people don't read (and can't get) the comics, so there is a whole pile of Buffy fans who don't read comics and don't count comics or books as anything to do with the Buffy verse and only, fan fiction.

That's where this series is different. It's canon. It's new adventures, written by Joss, and subsequent stuff will be closely supervised by him. The new stuff is all official, and anyone who misses it, is missing out on "season 8" of Buffy.

That's how I feel too, Danman. Joss says it's canon, it's canon. If you don't like it I guess you can shrug it off. I'm a comic fan so I guess it's easy for me to see this as canon.

I might have posted this already, but Joss said when these were first announced that the storyline would tie into the potential Spike movie and 'more'.

I doubt Joss would kill off a major character in the comic book...thats not to say someone like Principal Wood isnt off limits...or a few of the surviving potentials. I think its far more likely that we may see some favorite dead characters return in some way....now that is something I would be VERY excited about. Imagine Tara returning? :::dies:::
