I don't get it, why they just don't release this spike as season five.

I think they didnt make this the first Spike because the previous Spike figures all had coats so a coatless Spike would've been something different.

Um...but if you did your own it would cost more than $10 since you'd have to buy the two figures. Unless you know where to get them both for about $5 each. In which case, please let me know also.

I'll be doing a head swap as well at some point. Thank god I'm a loose collector. I guess I'll end up with a jacket-less Vampire Spike too...

That IS ridiculous. I've head swapped several of these already. The season 5 Spikes are super cheap and you can get pretty good deals on Just Rewards Spike, as well.
But I guess it's worth it for MOC collectors. I probably should have kept my appointment to give blood, but when they told me I had to leave the con to go across the street in the crowds and heat, it was more than I wanted to do. It had already taken me over two hours to get into that building from the time I arrived downtown!
Anyway, it's a ridiculous amount of money. But I guess that's what happens sometimes when you collect MOC. If you have it loose, you can easily make it for less than $20.

Shouldn't the ebay cost eventally decrease? It looks like the first couple sold for 100+ dollars and now they are going for around seventy. If the trend continues one should be able to pick up a blood drive Spike for less than fifty bucks. It is still an outragous price for a fig, but serious collectors should be able to justify a higher than normal price.
I will only pay full retail price for top quality figures that I am really fond of, such as the exclusive Illyria and "Just Rewards" Spike. Unless this Spike's price drops below 20 bucks or is realesed in different packaging, all of us casual/poor collectors are basiclly screwed. It is a real shame since this Spike is clearly the one every fan will want most. Whoever made this decision is evil!

They should have just released this as a charity one for the Radicals to buy. If you weren't able to make it to SDCC, you could get Spike for a donation of like $30 or something to the blood bank.

I got mine today, thanks to esc (Eva)'s brother. Thanks again Eva, he looks great and was worth every penny. Now I'm still searching for last years Blood Drive Spike T1, I'm hoping that I find him and for a reasonable price.

I got mine at Wizard World Chicago (thanks again Kevin and T&ST!). I normally open all my figures, but he's staying in his box -- if I'd wanted a loose Blood Drive Spike, I just would have done a head/hands swap.

I finally got one of these and I really like it.
I hope to see a Season 5 Angel with the coat too, its definatly needed and would be the definitive Angel figure. Maybe next year or they could offer through website somehow.

I've seen the 2005 SDCC T1 Spike from vendors at WizardWorld LA and this year's SDCC for $25, so I'm hoping this one will go down to that price soon.
I would have willingly donated blood to get either of them, but apparently I was once exposed to some strain of hepatitus at some point and picked up an antibody for it without actually contracting it, so they won't take my blood. That's what's really frustrating - being right there at the con, really wanting the figure and being willing to bleed for it, but they won't take me because of some microscopic thingie they found years ago that's completely not my fault. Grrr.
So what's best for a make-your-own one of these, swapping heads or swapping arms and rubber jacket? And is it just a matter of getting the joint hot with boiling water or a blow dryer and then pulling it apart? (I haven't actually done that before, you see....)

The easiest way to make one is to have a Vampire (Just Rewards) Spike and a Beneath You or Season 5 Spike (FFL SPike has the punk look and ringed hands, while Grave Sike has the screaming head and Chosen...hmm, that's be weird looking!). :-)
Anyway, boil - or bake the Figure in a shallow pan (I put a paper towel down to lay him on so his parts don't stick to the pan) for about 5 minutes at 200 Degrees F or until the limbs are rubbery (use a paper towel or something so you don't burn yourself!). His head and hands should pop out of Vamp Spike as well as S5/Beneath you Spike and pop just as easily back on/in the opposite figure. In fact, the head will pop off without heating, but the hands can break if not heated. You can lethim cool or do what I do - run under cold water to cool him off quick (also works as a GREAT way to fix Buffy's pigeon toes - heat her up, hold her legs out in place while then running under cold water to set them straight!
And voila! That's it really, You now have a classic looking spike (why he wasn't made in the regular line, I'll never understand!) and a nifty Vamped out Spike (works especially well for Beneath You Spike, considering that episode).
Do at your own risk, and use caution of course when handling any hot objects!
