I don't know why people believe that Buffy can be only Sarah Michelle Gellar, I think another actress can give new perspectives to the character. Because, and I do only speak for myself, I was 12 when the show was first aired in germany/austria, and I followed it every week. Im 25 now, thats 13 years I was attended by Buffy, Willow, Xander, Cordelia, Giles and Angel. I laught and cryed with them. I dont want to see anyone trying to take over their role, its just not right. They shall call the movie Blondie the Vampireslayer and its fine. See the Dragonball movie... The anime was a #1 worldhit, people used to love it. The movie was crap. It had nothing to do with the anime, and IMHO they were not able to resemble the unique charakter of Goku. I imagine the "buffy-movie" to be pretty much the same. They may have new and better special effects, but I think the name Buffy belongs to Sarah Michelle Gellar only. I understand your point, but just take for example Linda Carter, sure she was the Wonder woman, but now she is too old for that rol, the example of Superman is the same also, Tom Welling did a great job with that character and he wasn't Superman in the movies. Do you prefer a new actress or do you prefer that the character just get vanish forever, I think Hayden Panettiere can be an excellent Buffy or another new actress, let Buffy in a big hallow forever, I think that's a bad choice for a comic icon. I can't agree with the case of Dragon Ball because that movie was all mess up, first the director wants to merge the tale of Gohan and Goku in the same line, second Goku was a kid, then when Piccolo appears in the tournament he returns as a teenager, and he manage to defeat Piccolo, that was the story, they just made a big story twister. Goku can live in cartoons forever, Buffy isn't in the same line, the series wasn't a cartoon, if the new generations want to see that, they should have the chance to see her at least in movies.

Well, I cant stop the movie anyway. I just think all those remakes were bad, especially the A-team, Miami Vice, Starsky & Hutch ect... I know thats the way it is, best example is James Bond, how many James Bonds did we have? Just speaking for myself, still I might watch the movie, just dont like the idea of not having some of the original cast

You are missing the point that all the shows that got rebooted were old. Old enough to be uninteresting to new generation of viewers and old enough for the leading actors to play them or the creators of those to come back are remake them. Buffy ended less than a decade ago, its still going strong in the comic book world and merchandise and conventions. Rebooting it is simply pointless at this stage - especially as all of the actors are still more than capable to play their character and Joss is available to write the script. Without Joss Buffy isn't Buffy.

I agree without Joss Buffy is nothing, now if there is already a very bad Buffy movie, how they can dare to make another bad product, I think that will be very lame. Sure Sarah can be play Buffy but I doubt she will do that, since she wants to take projects out of that character. I think if they want to bring Buffy back, they should that in a good way.

That is exactly why I'm so against this reboot - its not just replacing the actors it replaces the only person who truly knows Buffy. And no matter how much of a fan the new writer is, it would never be the same character again. And the more the would release of those new movies and merchandise the less people would bother with the show. Just like at first the show had bad reputation because of the movie now new viewers who won't like the film gonna think the show is also bad.

Very bad, and I don't know how Warner is gonna pull this off, if there is already a bad movie of Buffy, another one will be useless, they should try to contact Joss and some of the cast, if this is about money, they won't get a lot with a bad remake movie.

Yep, but there seem to be some sort of craziness going on with rebooting everything that ever was - Superman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Buffy, Tomb Raider...wonder where its gonna stop.

Problem is, Hollywood has completely run out of original ideas! Not only do they remake classic films and tv from their own stores , they rip off European fiims and try to pass them off as their own hoping their audiences don't watch obscure ' art films.' Look at 'The girl with the dragon tat ' and 'Let the right one in' for example. Have barely been out at the cinema and already one remake and another in production! They are too afraid to take any risks on unknown scripts and projects in case there is no box office hit ,even with the abundance of talent that is working in the industry already! I'll watch a new Buffy film ,but if I want to watch something that makes me feel anything more than mildly entertained for a couple of hours, I'll go back to the Buffy I love .Each time I watch an episode I will remind myself that this is the sort of tv that actually shapes you as a person rather than just plugs a gap on a bored evening out!

Has anyone noticed how this discussion now sounds some what like a political debate? If anything the concept should just be dropped, or just at least wait until Joss isnt busy then try to come up with something good. Like a slayer academy thing, or the slayer chronicles, something neat and new I guess. If only Warner could read this entire thread *sigh*.

The problem isn't with Joss being busy - they just don't want him on this at all.

What's surprised me most is that people aren't more pissed. Far be it from me to dictate to anyone but....awh hell, I am dictating, this is a decree: Have dignity as Buffy fans and don't support this movie.
When you think about it, this is Warner Brothers basically telling us that they're going to call some other girl Buffy, slap Joss Whedon and the rest of the cast across the face, and they expect we won't care, that we'll just eat their garbage regardless of what it is because they call it Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Show some support for the actors, writers, directors, and producers for providing you entertainment that you still gawk over to this day. How many times have you laughed, cried, thrown up your hands, raised your eyebrows, smiled or felt immense gratitude for having discovered Buffy? Well you can look no further than Joss to thank for that and if he's being publicly disrespected like this by Warner Bros, for gods sake, don't stand for it.
Joss, SMG, Nicholas Brendon, so many people who are responsible for bringing us Buffy are opposed to this and I go to forums to see people casting vastly inferior actresses to fill Buffy's boots? Come on.
I personally agree with SMG....

'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot hits a snag as script is rejected
Dec. 23, 2011, 4:49 PM EST
By Rick Porter Zap2it
It's been a little more than a year since Warner Bros. announced plans for a Joss Whedon-less "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" movie that would reboot the character and story.
It looks like it will be at least a while longer before any such project gets a green light.
Bing: Joss Whedon on 'Buffy' reboot
Screenwriter Whit Anderson, who was hired to pen the new "Buffy" story, is now off the project, the L.A. Times' Hero Complex reports. The producers are looking for a new writer.
Allow us to suggest an up-and-coming scribe we've heard good things about, name of Joss Whedon.
Anderson's script contained "some great ideas," a source close to the project tells Hero Complex, "but in the end there just wasn't enough on the page."
The site also notes that the entire project may have "lost some steam" -- which would not necessarily be a bad thing, if you ask us. Whedon doesn't own the rights to "Buffy," which is how this all got started, but for pretty much every fan of Buffy Summers and Co., he absolutely owns the story.

Good news! As I did not care for a Buffy reboot. But I do hope this keeps them motivated in producing a Buffy movie but next time with Joss and all of the original cast.

Hold on, so this thing's finally dead? (And, yes, I'm using that term because we all know that in the Buffyverse, things don't always stay dead.) I still don't think it's time for a reboot, it's only been a few years since the show's ended. I'm thinking they should probably wait another decade or so.

Not sure if I'm gonna get some negative feedback on this, but seeing the last reply on this topic being 01/26/2012 - and the topic being a possible movie for 2012-2013... Don't wanna flood it with another similar thread. So here I go....
Buffy movie topic circulated as far back as 2009, now in 2012 talking about a reboot in title with no connection to Joss or the original cast. Stupid, I know. But instead of bringing Buffy back why not bring FRAY into 2012-2013 as a film. Everyone was looking for a slayer and a connection to the Buffyverse. This would not require Sarah to come back, but would make a good point of moving-onward. Also I wouldn't be too upset if they finish releasing the darn Buffy Season 9 Dark Horse Digital Comics. But staying on topic, new actress, new cast, new approach to the comic title to movie adaptation. Anyone else kind of feel the same way?

Personally I think a Buffy movie is generally a crappy idea... but then again it can be a good thing for a few reasons... for one it could trigger more merchandise to be made. Another good thing that can come from it is if there is a buffy movie made with NO original actors/actresses etc. and if it totally sucks, it could open up doors for Joss Whedon to get help with creating a better movie HIMSELF or at least a spin off series. Plus, jealousy can be a good thing sometimes... if a crappy movie is made, the original actors may think "hey we'll show them how it's done!" personally though, I would LOVE to see either a spin off about Faith or have a whole new set of characters (obviously have a slayer included made from willows spell) but I think a new young generation of scooby members would be great! Obviously have a few guest appearances of original characters too
