This week we have someone who needs no introduction at all – the Custom Queen herself, MsBigPileofDust aka. Sasha! For three years her customs have captivated the forum and inspired a whole new generation of customizers. And in becoming a moderator for the section, her dedication, kindness and intelligence has really shined through. Sasha is one of the most pleasant people to deal with on the forum and is really an ideal role-model for us all. I can only hope that she stays a continued presence on this forum for a long time to come and never fails to keep beating her own achievements and reaching higher levels of aspiration and talent. Sasha is a very busy lady, so I feel honoured that she’s accepted my invite into the Hot Seat. Although I will have to ask you to keep the more lunatic questions down to a minimum, since we don’t want to waste her time I honestly can’t wait to see what questions you'll all come up with and how she will answer because quite frankly, she’s a sort of celebrity around here. There’s nothing left to say now other than good luck So, enjoy! ;D --------------------------------------------------------- Here are a few to get you started… 1) What TV shows are you into at the moment? Besides the obvious Buffy/Angel/Firefly. 2) What made you decide to sell your collection and not keep any of your work for yourself? Do you ever want to keep them for yourself? 3) What do you do for a living? 4) We know you had a bit of a bad experience when customizing a Sideshow Buffy figure (your shoulder, right?). Will you do one again or does it not seem likely? 5) Which are your favourite seasons of Buffy and Angel? 6) How come we haven’t seen any Serenity customs from you yet? 7) Do you think you will get sick of answering customizing questions or will you find it a pleasure to answer as many as people want you to?

Thanks. It may take a while, but I'll try to answer everything fully. Feel free to ask anything. I'll try to be completely open. Second Evil Questions1) What TV shows are you into at the moment? Besides the obvious Buffy/Angel/Firefly.Dramas I've been watching on TV recently and loved:- Battlestar Galactica. I think this is superb. I adore Ronald D. Moore's work. His commentaries are also super. I think he's the new Joss. - Veronica Mars. Loved Season 1. Big Logan crush. Love Kristen Bell. Half way through Season 2... not quite as good IMO but still one of my favourite programs. - Rome. Took several episodes to warm up but then must-watch TV. Amazing DVD box set. Beautiful and loaded with extras. Just had the pleasure of buying a set for my dad and chatting about the episodes after. I do this all the time with my mum but rarely with my dad. I ended up googling all the actors and buying other DVDs they were in... particularly Kevin McKidd. - Deadwood. Adored Season 1. I felt Season 2 was less well written. Super acting. Fancy the sheriff... I think it's the gaze and that very odd narrow-hipped fast walk. Adore Ian McShane. He's a supreme actor and still attractive in an unwashed and scary way. Swedgin! I don't watch many comedies but I have been enjoying these:- My Name is Earl. This just tickles me. I think some of these people are from small town American by way of downtown Worcester. - Freddie. I didn't like FP's acting much before but decided to give this a go out of loyalty to SMG. Surprised to find it very entertaining, well written and acted. FP has really grown on me. Mostly watch these for the pretties:- Prison Break. Very entertaining. Big crush on Wentworth Miller. Go Fish! The whole gang are fun, especially pocket boy. - Supernatural. Kind of silly but I like Sam and Dean makes me wobbly at the knees. I adored him as Alec in 'Dark Angel'. Jensen Ackles is great at playing this type of role. Enjoying on DVD but missed on TV:- Gilmore Girls. Love the whole series. Very witty. I'm rewatching it all with my niece and nephew. - Oz. What can I say? I'm twisted. I think the love story between Keller and Beecher is one of the most compelling I've ever seen. I love many of the actors. - Band of Brothers. Fascinating and wonderful. Best watched with subtitles during the action scenes, though. 2) What made you decide to sell your collection and not keep any of your work for yourself? Do you ever want to keep them for yourself?I have finally kept one for myself... the SMG on the coffin. I don't consider it to be my best work but I like how it is unobtrusive and fits horizontally on my shelf. I was never a collector as a kid. I have a huge collection of DVDs but that's not the collector mentality so much as a TV obsession. I can afford lots of DVDs and like having them to hand rather than having to forage in the rental stores. The only time I ever collected was for about 10 months from May 2003 to 2004. I went insane after Buffy ended and needed something to fill the gap. I quickly added my own customs to the collection. As soon as something clicked in me and I felt comfortable in the role of 'artist' (which was new to me), I lost the urge to collect... either shop-bought figures or my own. I am very proud of my website though. I don't feel like I've lost my customs because I have a great photo of each of them on my website. 3) What do you do for a living?I write documentation for computer software. I have my own limited company, with just me in it as Managing Director. I contract out to large companies who make software. I specialise in online help files. I sometime work from my home as an office. This gives me more time to do some customising in the evenings. Sometimes I spend the week in London, working in offices there and staying in a rented flat or hotels. Examples of my work: 4) We know you had a bit of a bad experience when customizing a Sideshow Buffy figure (your shoulder, right?). Will you do one again or does it not seem likely? No, I can't see me customising a 12" figure again. Someone tried to commission one but I didn't want to do it. Too much time and trouble and I didn't enjoy it last time. The large busts are more fun and are manageable. 5) Which are your favourite seasons of Buffy and Angel?I rate most seasons of Buffy and Angel above any other TV shows. I'd give these marks out of 10: 10 Points - Buffy Season 2, Buffy Season 3 9 Points - Buffy Season 5, Buffy Season 6, Angel Season 2 8 Points - Buffy Season 1, Buffy Season 4, Angel Season 1, Angel Season 4, Angel Season 5 7 Points - Buffy Season 7, Angel Season 3 Season 7 of Buffy was my least favourite by a mile. I didn't like the Potential story line. Hated Kennedy. I didn't like how they wrote the character of Buffy some of the time. I hated how the others picked on her. The season got 2 extra points for the very satisfying finale. I had no problem at all with Buffy Season 6. I like the twisted stuff. It was dark but interesting. Angel Season 3 bugged me for some reason. I like Connor but the Angel/Cordy romance felt hollow. I had loved Cordy in the past but thought CC's acting in Angel Season 4 was terrible. Maybe it was the hormones or maybe she just can't do evil. She seemed so arch. She's great for rom/coms though. 6) How come we haven’t seen any Serenity customs from you yet?For the last 2 years, I've been making commissions pretty much exclusively. No one has yet commissioned one. 7) Do you think you will get sick of answering customizing questions or will you find it a pleasure to answer as many as people want you to?My enjoyment of customising hasn't waned at all in 3 years. I love doing the work. I love seeing other people's work and I love talking about customs on this forum.

Becky Questions
1. What has been the hardest custom you have ever made?
The most exhausting was 12" Primeval Buffy. I didn't enjoy it.
The longest was maybe Darla and Liam. I didn't find it hard because it came out so well and I was buoyed up by my enjoyment of it. Same goes for many of the Buffy/Angel and Buffy/Spike pairs.
It took a really long time to wrangle Sweet into his arm chair. That was tiring but successful, which always gives me a boost.
I agonised over Sid the Dummy. I felt defeated by the face before I even started and it doesn't look like him. I think the body is great though and the pair is very effective.
Something that looked mega complicated but was done very quickly was the first light-up Spike. I had the idea and executed it within 48 hours. I felt like I was riding the big wave. That was exhilarating.
2. What has been your most favourite out of all of the customs you have made?
I have different favourites with each era of my work. Just when I think I know my own work, my focus alters slightly. At the moment, I am most turned on by any of my customs that achieve emotion, movement or tension...
Spike is great for these. He often wears the same outfit but I've got into the habit of giving him different attitudes for variety.
All the Light-Up Spikes. I also love the FFL Humiliated Spike and the Painful Lesson pair.
End of Days Buffy with Angel watching. She's one of my best sculpts and he looks so casual. Buffy and the Mayor. Darla and Liam.
For recent single figures that move me... Russian Anya, Evil Cordy, Shopping Joyce, Werewolf Oz.
An older figure that still stands out for me... Chinese Darla (in blue).
3. What is one custom that you haven't made yet, but you would really like to?
My muse jumps around like a loon so I've got lots of ideas on my 'To Do' list. I don't like to mention them in advance of making them. Expectation can quash creativity.
4. Will you ever do customs from other shows?
I doubt it, as long as my Buffy obsession continues. There is just such a rich vein of inspiration here.
I feel that, if I start dabbling in other arenas, I'll never do them justice. I haven't even scratched the surface of my homage to Buffy.
As it was pointed out earlier, I haven't even had a chance to make Serenity movie figures yet. I'd also love to make other characters from Fray. Joss is so fertile, who needs any other inspiration?

Does your mother shop at Saks? Why are you so amazing at everything? If they sky is blue because it reflects off the ocean, and the ocean is blue because it reflects off the sky, where does the blue actually come from? If you had to kill Buffy, Willow or Xander who would you kill? Do you even know what Saks is?

hitnrun017 QuestionsWhat do you think of Paris Hilton?I watch E News on TV because I'm an entertainment buff, so I see coverage of her all the time. I suppose I like her more now that I see her so often. Don't ask me why. Maybe she grows on you like a fungus. For someone who started off as being famous for being famous, she does seem to be enterprising and energetic. She's not a lazy rich person. Her sister seems even more productive. How did you get started in customizing? There is an answer to that question and some others in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page of my website. I wrote the FAQ in 2004. I need to update it. Maybe this Hot Seat will help me with some material for the update. msbig.sashapowell.co.uk/mbframefaq.htmDo you have any pets?I had a rough collie (Lassie dog) named Topaz as a child. I fostered a gorgeous cat, who I named Nermal, at college. No pets since. I had a big soft spot for my best friend Juliette's poodle, Scooby. She was very old and had to be put down last month.

jsebold87 Questions1. What was the most challenging custom that you've made (besides the 12" figure)?See previous answers, above. 2. What character do you think is the least customized?I was glad we had the Oz challenge last month. For a major character, he didn't get many customs. I think it's because he had a fairly decent MAC figure. 3. Which character do you enjoy making the most?Buffy is my favourite character and I've made the most Buffies. When I'm fresh, I really enjoy making her but there are times I feel like I'm a Buffy-making factory worker. Doing her as part of a pair several times recently has upped my enjoyment factor again. I love giving Buffy a foil. My Spike figures en masse have had the most life to them so far, so I always seem to enjoy making him. Making some demons recently was different and therefore fun: The Mayor, Balthazar, Sweet, Blue Guy. 4. Who's your favorite character from ATS?Angel. He really came into his own as a character on ATS and filled out the lead role nicely. I really enjoyed how Cordy developed in Seasons 1 and 2 of ATS. I loved her close friendship with Angel. I didn't like it when she got all holier-than-thou after that and I saw no chemistry in Cordy/Angel. I also enjoyed Wesley's character arc on ATS. And Darla's. Loved the W&H folks: Lindsey, Lilah, Holland, Gavin. I like Gunn and Lorne but thought they didn't have enough to do in Seasons 3/4/5. I'm a push-over who pretty much loved all the characters good and evil. The only one who bugged me for a very long time was Eve. I liked her a little better, when she became vulnerable. 5. Who inspired you to start customizing?Flobbster. Full story on my FAQ webpage: msbig.sashapowell.co.uk/mbframefaq.htm

ouijarick Questions--Favourite Holiday? Least favourite? As you are British, I'll take that to mean 'going on holiday' rather than Christmas or Thanksgiving. I've only been on holiday with my best friend Juliette 4 times but 2 of them were my best and worst. Both in the USA. Worst HolidayThe worst was when we were 28. We went to California for the first time and made the mistake IMO of staying with Juliette's aunt who lived in Pasedena. Her husband was an LA cop and they were both racist, which I hate. She wouldn't let us out of the house by ourselves in the evening because it was 'dangerous'. We never got to go and chill out like adults in a pub or anything. We were cast in the roles of bickering teenagers in the back of the car, being driven on various trips. I have to say that the aunt was very kind and generous to me and well intentioned. She put herself out completely and did everything for us for 2 whole weeks. It made me want to tear my hair out, though.Best HolidayMy best holiday was when I took Juliette to see New Orleans for the first time, when we were 31. I had been working as a software trainer out there and made friends with several very cool people, so we had excellent tour guides to see the amazing sights safely and indulge in the great atmosphere and cuisine. The best part of all was where we stayed. My friend Patty in NO was working as an accountant for the famous Royal Cafe restaurant. The couple who owned it had converted the entire huge top floor into 2 gorgeous suites. They didn't advertise them as hotel rooms, they just allowed their millionaire friends to stay there. Patty managed to swing us the entire top floor for a week for about $40/night. I had the Napoleon Suite with a 4 poster bed. She had the Josephine Suite. We each had spacious bathrooms, our own TVs with free movies all day. We had a palatial living room, a walk-in bar (with free champagne). The balcony ran the whole length of the building an looked out onto Royal and St. Peters. Edited to add...
I'd missed out on my annual Summer holiday in Yugoslavia at age 14, because I was in the chorus of Godspell for a professional theatre company. I got cast on the strength of my dancing/acting and told to lip-synch the singing. ;D
When I went on holiday to Yugoslavia at age 15, I had blossomed considerably in the 2 years, since my friends there had seen me. I managed to clock up 3 different boyfriends in the 4 weeks I was there. All very innocent but the joy of being admired (for the first time) still gives me a buzz.
The aftermath was even better. I came back to Worcester all sun-kissed, got some contact lens and took my new-found confidence out to play.--Favourite Season of the year? Least FavouriteI used to love the Summer but I must be getting old because I now find it too hot. Spring, I suppose. It's getting lighter, which lifts the mood and the weather is nicer. There are some things to enjoy about Winter but I hate the short days. It also cuts into my painting time, when making customs. --So you had to sacrifice a celebrity, to keep the sun in the sky and the lakes from drying up etc. Who would it be? Why?J-Lo. She just gets on my nerves. I liked her in 'Out of Sight' and it went downhill from there. The Gods would also like her as a sacrifice because she's beautiful and has bountiful booty. --Buffyverse character that you wish actually DID get maimed by the demon of the week? Which Demon/episode?Kennedy. She never stopped annoying me. She'd have made a tasty treat for an Ubervamp in Chosen. I suppose Joss knew he would get much pathos from killing her off, so he dropped Amanda instead. I also disliked Rona. She was just mean. --What’s the weirdest name you’ve ever heard of? Nothing springs to mind. I quite like unusual names. --Favourite word? Least Favourite?I guess it's the concepts more than the sound of the words... 'Wit'. I like people who have their wits about them. I like witty language and I despair of half-wits. Don't like 'Petty' or 'Bigot'. --Favourite smell? Least Favourite? You can't go wrong with baking cookie smell. For perfume, I've been wearing Obsession for 10 years. Every time I think about changing it, some new bloke stops me in a corridor and tells me I smell gorgeous. It obviously suits my body chemistry. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Petrol smell makes me gag. I used to get car-sick as a child. My family did a 5 day road trip from the UK to Yugoslavia every Summer. I'd throw up for the first 2 days. Which is why I don't really like France, if you know your geography. When we stopped to fill up at petrol stations, the smell would make me feel even worse. --Last thing that you accidentally broke? It's ages since I've broken anything. I think it was a year ago, when I spilled water on my laptop keyboard. That was traumatic and cost £400 to fix. --Ever broken a bone? No. I had a really painful sprained ankle 6 months ago. I was coming out of a restaurant and missed the last step, while reaching for my friend Matthew's arm. I went down so badly that the pain made me black out for a few seconds. If turns out that my first response to pain/shock is hunger... and I'd just troughed a huge curry. Edited to add... You jinxed me with that question! I fell over just now at lunchtime and really cracked my knee on a paving slab. Not broken, but ouch!--Is their any particular custom that you're surprised hasn't been commisioned yet?See previous answers. --What's the most a custom of yours has sold for, on ebay? There was a bidding war on Pillow-Book Tara in 2004, before the Tara figures came out. She went for £300. That's about $590. I felt so sorry for the winner (a guy in Scotland) that I made him a Willow of his choice for free (the one from 'Primeval'). --What has been your favourite piece to sculpt/paint so far?See previous answers. --Which likeness that you've achieved from another figure are you most proud of?Can't pick just one but I'm pleased with all these: Gage Petronzi, Ford, 'Primeval' Adam, Cowboy-Guy Riley, Milkmaid Harmony, Knight-Napping Glory, Lone-Gunman Fred, Dana, 'Serenity' Kaylee & Jayne. --Of all the bases and accessories that you've made to go with these customs, which do you think was your most creative? The Spike 'Light-Up' pieces stand out. In fact, Spike often gets a good base from me. Also Buffy and The Mayor, of course. Sid the Dummy's case. Buffies in bed, under rugs, in the bathroom or with her cave painting.

Shannon QuestionsDoes your mother shop at Saks? Do you even know what Saks is?We don't have Saks in the UK. My mother does buy some fairly plain clothing though. Mum-like. Luckily, I stopped letting her dress me at age 13. Why are you so amazing at everything? That's very kind. If you look at my earliest customs, you'll see that I started out just as cack-handed as the next person. I was lucky enough to get some measure of talent from my mum but the main reason my skills have developed so far is dedication and determination. I did my time making 400 customs. Anyone who does that will get good at it. My brother's Sensei has a quote regarding karate expertise: "The key to training is training". It's true. The key to customising is customising. If they sky is blue because it reflects off the ocean, and the ocean is blue because it reflects off the sky, where does the blue actually come from? The ocean has no colour. It is only blue because it reflects the sky. Light is made up of a spectrum of colours, as seen in a rainbow. The shortest wavelength of light which is visible to the naked eye, blue, gets scattered by the earth's atmosphere and therefore shows up. For details, see www.sciencemadesimple.com/sky_blue.html. If you had to kill Buffy, Willow or Xander who would you kill?I could never kill Buffy and, as she said to Sweet, it wouldn't make any difference. She'd just come back. So it's down to Willow or Xander. Yikes, I love them both. I'm glad Joss didn't kill off Xander in 'Chosen'. He still seems like an innocent who should survive. Willow in early seasons was the innocent who could never be sacrificed but, now, I'd find it easier to let her go. Better dead with Tara than alive with Kennedy. Mwahahaha!

Hi Sasha, What kind of flowers would you most like to receive as a gift? Have you ever used RoboHelp? If you could blink your eyes and suddenly appear anywhere in the world this very second, where do you think you'd go? What are some items on your nightstand at home? Pizza - do you eat it, and if so when's the last time you had a slice? This made me laugh - I just watched it 2 days ago, lol.

SlayerLV Questions
1. What is your favorite movie?
These are my classic loves: Aliens, Terminator, The Matrix (hated 2 & 3), Shawshank Redemption, LA Confidential, Romeo & Juliet, Apollo 13, Brokeback Mountain, The English Patient.
2. Who is your favorite actor AND actress outside of the Buffyverse?
I've changed this answer, after a bit more thought. I'm touched by these actors (and so many more). I'm a movie and TV hound:
Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Orlando Bloom (he's not a super actor, but I find him so likable and beautiful), Christopher Meloni, Cate Blanchette, Wentworth Miller, Katherine Heigl, Tom Cruise (I know he's not so popular now, but I'm loyal), Reese Witherspoon, Keri Russell, Skeet Ulrich, Johnny Depp, Kevin McKidd, Bobby Cannavale, Brad Pitt.
3. Who is your favorite band AND singer?
Band: Jamiroquai
Also Cold Play. I like most of the bands who played on the first Buffy CD.
Singer: Madonna (since her Ray of Light album).
Also Sarah McClachlan.
4. What is your favorite song?
Hard to pick, but 'Ray of Light' made me go crazy, when I saw Madonna live in Cardiff last month.
Edited to add...
It's a simple song but I love Sarah McClachlan's "Ice-cream Song". I think that's the official title. Ever since I saw the scene in "Felicity" where she and Ben are watching Chaplin on the roof.
5. Do you like X-Men? If so who is your favorite character?
I've seen the movies and read Joss' comics. Logan as played by Hugh Jackman.
6. What is your favorite cartoon?
If stop-motion counts, then "Wallace & Grommit". I was a huge fan of the original short films. I'm not a teddy person but I do have a plush Shawn-the-Sheep and Grommit. Also a Grommit mug and mouse mat.
I enjoyed reading Moomintroll as a child and they made a cute animated TV series out of it.
Anime does nothing for me. I also don't play any video games.
I don't own any animated cartoons on DVD, which is telling because I have 250 movies on DVD and around 100 TV box sets. I own Toy Story 1 & 2. Those are great.

Shivi Questions
1) what do you think is the meaning of life ?
Well the answer is 42. See the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" for the question. OK, I'll spill, it's 6 x 7.
2) what do you like about yourself and what not ?
I was blessed with great hair and olive skin. My hairdresser says I have twice as many follicles as the average bear.
I wish I had a better metabolism. I really struggle with my weight. I have to diet just to stay the same weight, let alone lose it. I love fud and the frosty nectar. I balloon really easily.
3) which of the elements water, earth, fire and wind do you think reassemble your character the most and why ?
I'm sorry. I don't really know the answer to that question. Maybe you can tell me.
4) tell me with word what the most important thing in your life is for you
Friendship.
5) do you enjoy cooking for your boyfriend ?
I don't enjoy cooking at all, even for myself. I rely entirely on the wonderful warm-up wares of Marks & Spenser.
I don't have a boyfriend just now. I've been single for about a year. Maybe I should seek out Mr Marks or Mr Spenser.
