I saw the Grudge 2 last night, and was very disappointed. I liked the scene with Sarah (the whole 3 minutes of it), but aside from that, it wasn't that exciting. I found it quite confusing, especially the ending, which I won't give away, and there were intertwining story-lines going on at once that keep giving flashbacks and what-not, which totally threw me off. To be honest, I found this one to be more of a spoof of the first one, which I don't think was actually the point. I laughed during this movie more than I jumped. I think that Sarah made a good decision of only being in the beginning, because it probably would have hurt her career if she did the whole second one. But that's just my opinion. Others may feel differently. I would recommend renting it instead of paying the extra money to go and see it.

I just saw the french movie High Tension. I was about 15 minutes into it and I am thinking...my gosh this is just like Dean Koontz's Intensity book. Sure enough, the film is a total ripoff of the book right up until the last 20 minutes or so. Good gravy...what a bunch of crap. The book was far superior and had this film not have stolen its complete plot, it might have been okay. Disregarding its obvious plagarism, it had a few cool moments but the twist ending makes the front half of the film a little confusing.

I saw TCM: The Beginning last weekend and I wasn't really into it much at all. I mean, it was alright, but I remember enjoying the 2003 version a lot more than I enjoyed this one. However, I haven't even seen it since it was in theaters, and that one was playing in a packed house. This time around, there were only like 10 people in the theater. I just remember feeling legitimately scared when I saw the other one, but this one didn't do much for me at all.

I saw The Grudge 2 Friday night and I really enjoyed it. Just as good, maybe even better then the first. Sarah did an amazing job in her one scene. It was great to see her back on the big screen. To me, there wasn't many jump scenes like in the first one but I found this one more creepy and suspenseful. I'm one of the few who really enjoyed how there were different stories going on. I like guessing or thinking what will happen next. Overall, I was expecting to be dissapointed but I enjoyed it. I recomended it to horror fans.

Bad News!...SMG's The Return has been pushed back from it's November release date to 26th of January! How crappy! I went to see Grudge2 this afternoon and i have very mixed views too. I was expecting the film to be full of action since the trailer was so action-packed. I hate trailers that squeeze all the good bits into the trailer so you have no surprises at all! I didn't find this scary at all! The death scenes started to grow old for me on the first film, not much has changed in this one. I didn't find the 3 stories all going at the one time confusing. SPOILERS!- FILM IN SOME DETAIL- IMO I was sort of disappointed on how these deaths were carried out. In the trailer they looked very inventive, but everybody was laughing, especially at the scene where the reporter helping Aubrey dies. Kayako sat in the water too long and by the time she grabbed him, the whole hall was laughing and it spoiled the scene. Another ridiculous scene was the school office scene where Allison (John Tucker Must Die Star) is sitting with the teacher in her office and it is revealed the teacher has the curse as well and makes this crappy attempt at the croak noise and looks absolutely stupid with the white make-up on. The scene was a good idea, but was just a laugh riot!
I don't get the scene where the American cheerleader, big sister's friend is drinking all the milk and then just vomits it all back up? wtf! I'm guessing she had been hit with the curse, but why milk and vomit? I think this scene was just thrown in for a random reason to give the film a little bit of baby-gore.
Another major plot i have no idea what it meant was the whole scene where Aubrey's neck is snapped when re-living the death scene and it is made out that she has ended the curse and set Kayako's spirit free by taking her place. I think this because you see Aubrey lying on the floor and Kayako approach Aubrey as a human again wearing normal clothes. Another scene to suggest that Aubrey had replaced Kayako as the ghost was the flash-back of Allison locked in the closet at the start of the film. it replaces Kayako with Aubrey as the evil spirit- suggesting that they have like switched places?
In the end scene in USA, we find out that Allison had returned to America after her encounter with the house and brought the curse with her, but i thought she was killed back in Tokyo by the pathetic school teacher/consoler and her two school mates? Also, if Aubrey had taken Kayako's place as the ghost, why wasn't Aubrey the ghost to appear in America? If I'm correct this is how the storyline of the grudge lay out-
- Karen Davies leaves USA with boyfriend on bad terms with her little sister, Aubrey.
- Karen is haunted by a dark spirit and results in her boyfriend Doug being killed and is forced to start a drastic fire to free herself, but fails.
- She was then put in hospital classed as a mental patient but is killed by Kayako.
- Karen's Little sister Aubrey is sent to Tokyo to help her sister but Karen is dead and Aubrey investigates who and why her sister is dead.
- Aubrey is faced with the awful truth and understands that the only way to stop more people dying is to sacrifice her own life for Kayako's freedom.
- Two years after this whole incident 3 school girls enter the abandoned house and are cursed. Two die and one manages to escape from Tokyo and returns back to her home-land of America.
- The curse has followed her back to America and will now spread through the lives of whomever it wants to let everybody feel the pain and suffering Kayako had.
So then if Aubrey gave her life for Kayako's spirit to be free, why isn't Aubrey the ghost the school girls and the American family are seeing? The time-line states that Aubrey is no the new grudge so the 3 school girls should be haunted by Aubrey, since Aubrey died in that house 2 years before the school girls entered it SPOILER OVER!! I wouldn't rate this film as a horror favorite, but there is lots of information and stories continuing from the first film. So i would insist you see it if you want to know more, but if you and your friends are looking for a scream-fest, this film would be a pass because i found all the people in the cinema hall laughing, instead of screaming!

I might be seeing Saw III on Friday. Is anyone else uberly-excited for this movie!? I love the Saw Franchise so, so much! I'm a little dubious now that Amanda is preparing to take over Jigsaw's legacy. She was an awesome actress in the last movie until sudenly she turns out to be evil and she overly camped up and excentuated every line. She did ruin the end for me.
Still... can't wait to be disgusted, thrilled and scared in the cinema!

This isn't about a recently released horror movie but a classic. Since Halloween is coming up and I hadn't seen many of the old school classic horror movies besides Halloween I decided to rent Nightmare on Elm Street because my mom said she couldn't watch it when she was younger because Freddy was scary--right up my alley. Well I watched it last night and I have to say it was more funny than frightening, I was cracking up when they put the electrodes for measuring dream waves on the girl's chin lol. Anyway I was dissapointed. I also rented Friday the 13th which I hadn't gotten around to watching yet--I hope it's better than Nightmare on Elm Street . . .
So could anyone recommend some good classic horror movies that are actually scary? I guess today's standards have desensitized me.

Obviously "Halloween" is one of the greatest classic horror movies ever. I was soo scared of this movie when I was young and I still kinda am. Michael Myers is scary. I always like to watch Halloween 1,2 and then H2O because alot of the other movies dont fit into the whole Michael Myers story.

I have the same trepidation as I did when i saw the first 2 Saw movies. I thought the first one was going to be gruesome and graphic and just go way to far (think House of 1000 corpses!) but I really liked Saw 1. When Saw II Came around, I was afraid that it would fulfill my thoughts for Saw I and just be way to nasty and graphic...Again, I thought that it was graphic but not in an over the top way. I am excitedly awaiting Saw III but again, I have the fear in the back of my mind that this one will be the one to teeter off of the delicate balance the franchise has going, and instead of it being a really good movie with a graphic (sub)plat...it will just be one gross-out after another. Well, we will know by next Friday. I won't be able to see it until Sunday or Monday though! So could anyone recommend some good classic horror movies that are actually scary? I guess today's standards have desensitized me. I can't think of any classics that are really scary but I love the really old ones... Hush Hush Sweet Charlot (try saying that 5X fast!) House of Wax (original) Halloween 1 and Halloween 2. If you enjoyed 1 and have not seen 2 yet...DO SO NOW! It is an immediate continuation of the first. It shows the last 10 minutes of the first and then continues on for the rest of the Halloween night! Awesome movie. It is actually frightening too. I really enjoy The Omen (original and remake) and The AmityVille Horror (original and remake) were good too!

I had a bit of a horror-movie fest this weekend.
I bought texas chainsaw massacre 3 and 4 (subititled Next generation) in the week and watched them on Saturday.
Texas 4 is my favourite out of all the texas films now, I love it so so much! Texas 3 was worth a watch but the recent remakes and texas 4 are better.
Also watched the original ju-on The Grudge obviously with subtitles, really good but not scarey at all like the American one, again still worth a watch though.
And finally I watched 'Darkness' starring Ana pauquin....deary me it was HORRENDOUS!!!!!! This and 'The Fog' (remake) oh and the wicker man remake are the three worst horror films ever. It was directed incredibly badly so oyu couldn't tell what the frilly heck was oging on in the important action scenes as it kept going black and flashing in and out. The acting was bad....even laughableand the sotrylien was a rip off of Amityville and The Shining with a rubbish twist...and to top it off into total crappness it had one of the worst horror movie endings ever..it just kinda ends...dunno what happened with the mum ( there wasa really weird bit when she kept turning on the oven and wouldn't turn it off and then suddenyl turned into a monster which ealpt ot the ceiling and then the mum suddenly returned again crying turning the oven back on....it went as far as getting me angry it was so bad) Only watch if you want to be a film director cos that way you can think...right this is how you DONT do it!

Woo! Just got back from Saw III and what started off as a few random deaths strung together turned into a complex and well crafted masterpiece. I was worried it would ruin the other two movies but it left me hungry for more. Be warned though - more gore than the first two put together! Spoilers! The ending! Oh my gosh! Jigsaw is dead! Amanda is dead! Who will carry on the legacy - yet there are going to be two more films! So many questions! But god, the brain surgery scene made me feel so sick as it zoomed in the skull being drilled into with the power drill It was gross but really well done. I also loved the rib cage contraption and was shocked that the cop was not the central character in the movie.... but in a good way. It would've made it predictable if she was the main focus. I also felt that the doctor beared a shocking likeness to Nelly Furtado. I was certain at some points in the movie she'd start singing Maneater or Promiscuous. I think the start could've been better though because while they were necessary to establish the story, they weren't too creative. Like the chains in the skin and saw in the bathroom. Overall, I loved it and it was on par with the second film but it's originality didn't match the first. End of SpoilersI'd reccomend you guys go see it but be prepared for a bit of confusion and more gore than before! Plus the ending will leave you either grinning or wondering: "WTF?! What's going to happen in the next movies!?" 8/10 at least

But just remind yourself how great the others were so then when you actually sit down into the movie theater and allow yourself to be absorbed in the universe the time just flies by. It really was great - not one of the best movies of all time but an excellent continuation to the franchise.

*- Could be considered minor spoilers.
I sneaked in tonight to see Saw3, and now i mentally scarred! This movie focused much more on Amanda and her state of mind rather than John. It was nice to see connections from saw 1+2. *The movie opens with the police guy from the second movie. Not going to give it away, but he was left with a saw and a brick..things get messy!* Amanda is just fucked up completely! Not only has she grown her hair..she is a crazy jealous-bitch who is past the stage of therapy! I thought the death scenes were very well thought of in this film. I thought Saw2 was one of the most boring thriller films i had ever watched until the last 5 minutes and i felt maybe this was because the deaths were so- blah! (apart from the needle pit!) This movie is not for the faint-hearted! It is gore and sickness all around! In the last film gore scenes were tend to be cut-short with a few spurts of blood, and that was that- but this film holds the key to true gore and teeth grinding scenes! Again, the ending leaves with another puzzling and exciting expression on our faces. I don't know what they will come up with next!
SPOILER Did anybody else think the judge nearly drowning in the rotten pigs guts was just the most gruesome thing ever! And the poor detective's rib cages being torn apart! I liked her and thought she was a storing character that would have played well as center character in this film since her character was pushed aside in the sequel. What the hell was the point in making her put her hand in the acid to get the key, if the key didn't unlock it and set her free anyway? Was this just playing on the theory that Amanda had no intention on letting her victims live, like she did the guy with the hoops and the wielded door? Does this mean the guy, who lost his son and now his daughter, will be the new Jigsaw? How are we sure there are another 2 movies to come?

Afer, it's been said numerous times that another 2 movies are in the making as long as this one does well at the box office. Tobin Bell (Jigsaw) also says that he's signed on for the next one.
Glad you enjoyed it but yeah! So much gore! The first two were really mild so I wasn't anticipating it at all. The pig guts and the ribcage contraption scarred me for life! And yeah, you're right about the traps Amanda set.
Oooh, I watched another horror movie last night - the Descent! I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a british horror movie about a group of girls who go caving in the hills but the go on an unplanned route and soon get lost. They find old climbing equipment and realise that it's over a hundred years old and that if the people had gotton out then they would've named the caves... It gets so gorey as these gollum-like creatures attack (presumably trapped climbers that have evolved from the years they've spent down there).
There's a lot of genuine tension and I jumped a lot. I think it was so good because firstly it was British (unlike American films when the have to explain everything to you and leave blatant clues) and because it broke the mould as to how many survived ect. and the general way the story was done.
It had a slow start but much like Saw, it really got going and kept me absorbed for the hour or two. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to rent it on DVD and I might just buy my own copy for my collection.

I recommend he 2Disc-Special Edition because the behind the scenes is quite interesting (I got it for Christmas last year) So what is everybody's scream-fest plans for Halloween? I bought When A Stranger Calls, so i think I'm getting people round to watch that. I'm also thinking about buying the "I know what you did last summer boxset" just because it has I always know. Not sure yet though since i have the other two on DVD anyway!

I'm watching 'The Hills Have Eyes' on DVD and re-watching TXM. Since I've already watched 'The Descent' and 'Saw III' though, I think it fills at least half of my requirement for blood, gore and horror at halloween.

Well my halloween plans are....
firstly on Monday Im going to a 6-form halloween party as a Zombie. (I shall post photos of my costume tuesday lol).
And on tuesday the actual halloween, me and friends are going to our local woods...which are mind blowingly scarey and at night it shall be terrifying and watching Texas chainsaw massacre 4 the next generation/ Silent Hill/ Last house on the left.
Cant wait...I love halloween!
Also...Im not too keen on the idea of numerous Saw sequels. I think they should either leave it now or do a fourth and take a huge break and make 5 in like 5 years a so in the future. When theres a popular horror franchise hollywood milks it for all its worth until for example nightmare of elm street part 25 comes out and its just a parody of itself and ruins the franchise. I seriously hope that doesn't happen to Saw.
