I went into this movie thinking it would be good. I didn't think it would live up to the original (very few remakes or sequels do), but boy was I surprised. To me, it waaay surpassed the original. It wasn't full of cheap scares with things jumping out of places like some current horror movies. Not that there weren't any, but there was just enough cheap ones and just enough really good ones.
I think the amount of gore was perfect, any more and it really would've just bee a gorefest movie and it would've taken away from the story. I absolutley loved how they went more into the mind of leatherface. They showed us him beneath the mask and partially why he's all insane. I didn't miss the wheelcheer kid. I think what made this one better was that it flowed better. Everything was sort of connected in a way.
Everyone said she pulled the gun from her bloody you know what, but the gun wasn't bloody or anything, so I personally think that she had it like in her panties or something, but I'm sure someone could prove that wrong with simply looking at the script.
I loved all the camera angles. I was surprisngly impressed with the new mask of leatherface and it was very clever how he used one of the characters skins as a mask partially through the movie. I thought that the addition of more family members was great, it added to the whole pyschoness. I didn't mind the addition of the child, I think that it made the character of Erin grow more brave. I absolutley loved the cop car/18 wheeler part. I thought she was in the 18 wheeler, it never occured to me that she might be in another car. That was a great call by the director.
I got just enough story on each of the characters to actually feel sorry for some of them when they died. When leatherface got his arm chopped off I actually felt sorry for him too hehe. The atmosphere was perfect, and I think what contributed to that was the fact that all the locations were real and not sets.
The sherriff was awesome, crazy or not, ya gotta love the sherriff hehe. The beginning with the police report was a great addition, made it seem even more lifelike. And the end of it with leatherface killing those 2 and then having another police report based on those 2 killings was very unexpected and it made it great.
There were only 2 things I thought less of, not nessacarily didn't like, just thought could be better. I think the torture of the other victims could've been a little more elaborate. Like we saw one guy with his leg getting sawed off then the salt and paper then the meat hook, that was perfect. I would've liked to see maybe 1 or 2 more characters get that kind of torture instead of just being killed on the spot. The other thing that bothered me was the little boys teeth. They just looked too fake and rubbery like halloween teeth. Every moment I saw him I expected him to like take them out.
If you're a fan of the original or horror movies, DEFINITLEY go see this, it's one of the best most recent horror movies.
