Hello all,
It's been awhile sense my last project. But I've been planning on doing this project for awhile. Just thinking of all the materials I would need to even come close to getting it look just like this image.
So, I've actually started ordering alot of the materials and this is going to be as much of a walk through and trial and error as it goes. If you guys and gals remember me and my early work, generally it takes me 2-3 days to finish making a custom figure. The more figures the more time I need to work on each one. This project is going to be a serious undertaking, I am not doing this as a commission. I will be doing this for keeps to display.
So here is a brief idea of supplies:
DC Collectibles CW Supergirl: I went with this version as I think out of the 2 action figures that actually exist, this would be ideal. I kind of took a cheap route and order a knock off version from China for $9 vs your official for $30. It should be the same mold and accessories, however possible poor paint job and or markings. I didn't think it would be a bid deal if I was going to end up customizing it. You guys will get to see some before and after, If I don't like it I will just end up ordering another figure that is the real one. I actually do own both the DC Multiverse and the DC Collectible version of this Supergirl so I can put it up side by side once I get the figure in. Magic Sculpt: I get this stuff from a seller on eBay. Pending on the project size you can purchase this stuff as needed. It works just as well as clay and sticks to plastic and will harden. I generally go with flesh tone or white as I use this for mainly hair sculpting on action figures. Uncle Milton Marvel Science Transforming Hulk: I actually came across this by random. I looked everywhere thinking of a water base to house the figure that would work and be of scale. This was the closes thing I could find. Not even sure yet if this is the correct size next to the actual figure. Again, once everything is in hand we can see how it goes. Crystal Clear Epoxy Resin: My first time buying and using this product. I am hoping a 16 oz bottle will be sufficient enough to create the water effect needed. If not I will end up getting more just to create the look.
Paint & Paint Brush: Oh my, the old paint and stuff I use to use have almost all been depleted. I use wal-mart stuff. Some the brand is typically folkart or apple brand paint. I will be repainting hair and face so I will be going after neutral colors and skin tones. If you are new to customizing 5-7" action figures, go with a thin fine point paint brush. Have toothpicks or something pointy wooden to draw and scrape with.
I will post more updates as the project starts to take flight. I will only update when progress is made and the thread title will change from in progress to final. I will try to keep you guys posted and even ask for suggestions on this. My goal is not to complete this project within a 2-3 days overall, but maybe I will work on this project on Friday and Saturday only for maybe 2-3 weeks estimate. Hopefully I can inspire a few users and maybe inform some of you new to customizing some little tips and tricks. Also anyone wanna suggest a good image hosting site please feel free to PM me as I have no clue.
Ok so the tank is a little smaller than expected. The top lid is pressed sealed on. So I had to cut it open and pull the vault from the base as it was also glued down. I have to go back and remove the square base in the middle to give her better footing.
Supergirl I actually open my one I had on hand. You can see the height of the figure when in the tank. I also started sculpting the hair. So this is all I have done do far. I have to repaint her, sand down the base of tank before I glue her down permanently and add the clear resin to fill the tank.
