Hi, I have the rare wrong hair coloured buffy season 1 figure, these are hard to find as they were recalled after the realisation that the hair had been done brown with blonde highlights by mistake, I was wondering if anyone knows where I should try if I wanted to have this valued or sold along with my other figures, xx

not too sure what she is worth right now. i wouldnt classify her as rare, but more of a variant. some were already floating around in the market during initial release. also buffy so a few variant releases during the mac line. so based on that i would place this one from rarest to common:
Prophecy girl buffy carded $60 buffy unpainted prototype preproduction buffy white box $40 blue jacket buffy carded $30 toyfare prophecy girl buffy boxed $15 buffy brown hair $15 buffy regular $10
sense theres so many variations of this figure i dont think you would get alot of money over the rarer figures like the carded version of prophecy girl that generally runs in the $60 USD range. but pending on the condition too.

Hi, thanks for ur response, but I have already had her valued at a lot higher than that and been told she is very rare especially as she is still boxed, but you are right, there are rarer figures and also finding a genuine buyer is difficult x

to he honest, back in the day toyfare didnt even had that one listed in their price guide. thus the reason why i classified it as a variant.
also im not too sure what price you were quoted, but i cant imagine it being valued above the said mentioned figures.

A figure is worth as much as people willing to pay for it. list it on eBay with the price you think its worth and go on from there. Either it will sell or it won't.
You can always use the option for buyers to leave you offers and see more or less how much people are willing to pay.
Sadly given how old this line is and what little interest there is now you might not even get what's Elee mentioned above so prepare yourself for that as well. The only way to guarantee it being sold for a good price is if you manage to get it autographed by SMG.

Actually in terms of value, like comics and action figures really pend on the following: Condition, rariety and grade. Autograph items is like another add on category, but it must be proven authentic.
Condition: It can be listed as Loose, New, Mint on Card. Rariety: Common Mass Production, Limitied/Special/Collectors Edition, Rare/Chase Figure, Autograph Grade: Graded by Professional (Increase to max possible value on scale)
In Lior's case if you had this figure and it was signed by Sarah Michelle and it was graded for the figure itself and autograph proved authentic you can probably tap into triple digit worth points.
So to answer your question again, as a collector myself, I would'nt but a high worth dollar on it until further details are filled in. To justify my dollar amount, basically I considered what was stated and looked into the line and see what figures were produced from that line - from there you can classify the figure by it's release - in this case it's a (variant). FYI it's not rare it's a variant by default and that is because a recall took place because of the paint error. Do you remember when the X-MEN movie figure from Toy Biz was released and there was some much fustration over the female figures showing too much cleveage? Those figure that hit the market were RECALLED and new ones were painted with bras. Again it hit the market first and then recalled, making it a variant release of the figure. We don't know how many made it into the public hands - so saying it's rare isn't really justified as calling it a variant. Now during this stated period of release the collectors market 'at the time' may have sky rocketed because they were pulling them off the shelf to be replaced with the correct version, but that's "at the time" and from this site it was on eBay and cinequest for around $150-$200. see (http://www.nika-summers.com/Figures/actionbuffybrown1.php). I remember getting my entire series 1 figure from Toys R' Us for only $7.99 each and they still have the sticker on them.
Based on my hunt for the rarest figure out the line would be the carded prohecy girl buffy and I'd placed a limit of $60 for just this one figure because it was so hard to get ahold of. Toyfare had released 2 versions one on card and one in box, the box version being more common. I finally got her off of eBay for $29.05 and that was earlier this year. I've seen this figure priced widely in range, but like Lior pointed out it's only what people are willing to pay to get this item. Also if you are familure with this line the white box pre-production figures were limited to 5000 for Buffy and Angel and I was able to get them BOTH for $48.59.
So, I think I pretty much justified my response and answer to your question. However, I am open to anyone on this forum to prove me wrong. Again, I think you were led to believe this figure is worth more than it is, but sense we're not throwing numbers around and I don't know what the amount of value you were told. However, I do think in your mind that a special collector will pay you top dollar for this item and sadly that is not the case... Unless we talk about Action Comic No. 1.

Early in 2011 there was a discussion on another forum about this figure. Someone said the last one they saw went for £50. The market is very soft right now for Buffy figures! I sold a large lot of loose figures earlier this year for less than I wanted to (and I had some pretty good figures in there!). I can only speak for the North American market from my experiences with ebay/stores/other local collectors. Here, the market is very soft right now. Perhaps wait for the new Buffy Funko/Titan toys to come out before you try to sell for a higher price. The new lines of toys might spark a new interest in old collectors, and create some new ones as well. They are supposed to be coming out with a remastered edition of the DVDs (which actually don't look very good...), so that might create a spark as well. To pay a pretty penny for this brown haired Buffy you will need a serious collector! [source for Slayalive thread: slayalive.com/showthread.php/771-My-Buffy-series-1-figures-are-different...]
