I've fallen in love with IKEA's Synas but it's not very affordable. I wouldn't be able to buy it for months. Do you guys know of any other kind of display boxes that light up, or other solutions with lights(perhaps finger lights) and affordable boxes to display figures, big or small?

I gotta say Ive never seen them before, gotta say they look pretty damn good. Just checked out the Austrian Ikea Homepage and realised a box is 29,90€ only. I cant think of a cheaper way to create something like that. Just regular LED-stripes with about 1,20m are usually around 15-20€. The regular display boxes were about the same pricerange too, so I think those are probably the best deal.

I just posted a pic of a few customs of mine in that box in the collection thread. I love it. I only bought one because I didn't know what it was going to look like. But I'll get another next time I go to Ikea. I think it got it for around $45 AU or something.

My best advice, try second hand stores that sell furniture. They have great prices and usually great pieces. That is where I got my two black cabinets. Filled with glass shelves, and lighting only for $120. Good luck Sky! <3

Thanks.
Right now IKEA's Detolf seems to be the most cost-saving option, compared to several Synas. Unless I get lucky in second hand stores, like @pj says. We have a Red Cross store near here, where I've volountered a few times. They sometimes have really nice furniture, since they don't accept anything crappy.
