The end result is quite disappointing, especially for Buffy I love the original prototype! Is there a way to get it? link

Pretty sure they were linking to the picture from this: toynewsi.com/news.php?catid=168&itemid=9462Honestly I don't think it's that different to what we got - Dawn's still massive! Personally I feel that Buffy head isn't particularly nice no matter what, it works for Buffybot's over the topness, but there are better likenesses on other Buffy figures in my opinion.

It's the painted prototype... before mass production...
Even the joints alone should tell you as much.
As I said, it doesn't differ much/at all from the released version.

These are the "SAMPLE" figures they use to promote the figures release. Remember the Chosen Faith and Sanctuary Faith they showed at the Toy Convention that you can google online. Also the Chosen Faith figure was the photograph on the packaging, which we all got a different paint job in the end.
So technically "yes" these are the same figures, but these are the "SAMPLE" figures with better detailed paint job.

They are paint samples yes, prototype is a generalisation of every figure they created in the whole design process. They're still hand painted, and effectively the final stage in the prototype process. The primary issue is that nothing changed between here and what we got at the shops - DST never really had issues with replicating paint work at factory stage. Application of it varied sure, but the factory was pretty sound.
The painter they hired to do these had a website that they posted a sample of their work as part of an online portfolio. This included unreleased figures (a battle damaged Chosen Buffy) and the Tough Love Willow deluxe. They also had some sweet images of the Season 6 Book-sucking Willow bust with all the text decals applied to her painted face. I posted the link on here but after everyone got excited over the Buffy which hadn't been seen or announced previously, DST seemed to have intervened and they were made to take their site (or the BTVS page anyway!) down. That or they got twitchy and took it down themselves. Either way still feel guilty about that.
Though I'm still bitter DST hired someone with such a dull and lifeless paint style to keep working on them. Most customizers make livelier creations. Chosen Buffy couldn't be blander.

The prototypes will always have better paint jobs than the mass-produced version. I do think that Buffy's shirt came out better there than in the final mass produced version where it seems a bit bigger.
