So as some of you may know, I bought an El Cid sword with the plans of turning it into a replica of the sword Buffy uses to kill Angel; sending him to Hell in season 2's finale, 'Becoming'
If you're like me and want the replica sword, this is a far better option than getting the Factory X one;
a: because it's way cheaper (the sword was $39!) and
b: because it actually looks like the one used on the show.
Well it finally arrived today so I didn't waste any time in starting! Here's the pics of the progress so far!
I had to get those damn knobs off the handle bar bits... turns out that hammering them lightly works! I wouldn't suggest hammering really hard... in case it snaps off the bit of the bar it's attached to.
At this point I cut my finger open (OUCH!) because I slipped and cut it on the metal holder bits at the top and bottom of the handle. I had to wrench them open to take the wire wrapped around the handle off.
I'm not entirely happy with the leather strap as it is a little too fat, so it doesn't fit as neatly as I'd like it to. I've already ordered some more so will hopefully be able to improve on that as soon as it arrives
It's now wrapped with masking tape and it's had the first layer of gold spray paint. I've used "Rust-Oleum" from their metallic range and it has an 'elegant finish' apparently. The colour is simply gold
Let me know what you think so far and let me know if you have plans to do the same! There's no reason why any Buffy fan can't have this in their collection, it's EASY!
Finished! [although I will be making some modifications to the leather strap when the new leather arrives!]
(And yes, sad to say I am a smoker )
Here's another pic showing it's size comparison to the Scythe
Completed with the new leather on the handle. Comparison pics of hunga munga size included
