Personally I hate painting faces. I don't mind changing certain colors, but I can't do it as smoothly as the pros do.
To over come it, Work with a really nice base figure that resembles what your trying to do and make it how you would want and bring it to life.
You'll generally improve as you go along and you'll find out what works and doesn't. Sometimes it maybe the type of material you like to use that others might find a challenge. Also asking others' opinion is always a must.

I'm not really a experienced Customizer, But I've learned a few tricks LOL. No mater what you need a thin paint brush, I use a 0 paint brush for eyes. Every since I got that brush It has improved my eye painting. Also I only use Super Sculpy. There is also this Paint sealer that I use I don't remember the name but it dries clear and you can find it with model cars and such. Hope this helped a little
