The Non-Jossverse Summer 2011 Challenge runs from June to the end of August. This challenge is to make a real person or a character from any non-Joss show or movie in a flashback scene (even a few years back), a historical costume, or fancy dress. Comic book stuff is also allowed, as long as it is a costume, not regular clothes. Rules for Customisers1) You can state your ideas for what you intend to make. You can post in-progress photos, if you like, as well as finished photos. 2) Remember, this challenge is just to give us some unity during this Season. You are still encouraged to produce any custom you like that is un-related to this challenge and post it in its own thread. 3) If you post photos of your custom in this challenge thread, please don't also post it in a separate thread. 4) This challenge will last during the months of June to August only. Please plan to finish your figure by August 31st. 5) You can use any format of custom in this challenge. It can be Mini, Palz, 6", 12" or bust. It can be a single figure or a tableau of several figures. 6) Only photos of 600 pixels wide, or less, are accepted. Rules for Non-CustomisersEveryone is encouraged to comment on the works shown here. This thread is for chatting about the theme, posting photos and sharing ideas but please keep it on topic. GalleryThis is a quick view of completed customs only. Please scroll through the thread for recipes, details, progress photos, multiple angels and reference photos. I'm showing them in the order in which they were completed. MsBig - Lady Jane Grey (Historical Figure) and Perfect-Life Rosalie Hale (Eclipse)

I feel kinda stupid for asking this but just to clarify- "fancy dress" means a costume or disguise, right? I'm gonna try to make something for this challenge, then again I've wanted to participate in the last few challenges, but didn't get anything done...

Yes, that's right. This one will be right up your alley, figurechick. Many of your superheroes would be valid entries.

Lady Jane Grey - Historical Figure | | Real People - Celebrities - Historical Figures Jacob lives in the USA and is a descendant of Lady Jane Grey's husband's family, the Dudleys. He asked me to make a custom figure of her. Lady Jane was a tragic figure in British history. In 1553, her Protestant family seized the throne for her. Teenage Jane was Queen for just nine days before her supporters were defeated by those of Catholic Mary I. Jane and her young husband were beheaded.
At Jacob's request, I based her costume on the beautiful doll made by Debra Dixon-Paver.

Wow - she is ..... beautiful ! An absolutely incredible sculpt and sublime painting. The detail on that dress is just incredible and looks so authentic for the time period. Really interesting background to this commission as well. Your buyer is very lucky and I'm sure he will be delighted with her.

I actually managed to complete something for a challenge This is a statue piece I made based on the animated movie "Batman:Under The Red Hood". It's based on flashback scenes from the movie, so it fits into both the Flashback and Fancy Dress parts of the challenge(I should totally get bonus points for that ha ha ) Anyway, here it is: "Batman:Under The Red Hood" Batman and Robin: Reference- Robin IP photos- Robin is made up of mostly a DC Direct "Dark Knight Returns" Carrie Kelly. I removed the head. head I used for this was Bandai "Teen Titans" Robin(the 5 inch figure): I had made a mini bust of Robin from this movie last yr. ( www.btvsfigs.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=customizeother&action=display&thread=17682)using a "Teen Titans" Robin paperweight and thought it might be similar enough. I cut off the hair, sanded/Dremeled down parts of the head, face, and mask. Sculpted forehead, part of head, hair, mask, lower part of face. For the body- removed hands, replaced hands w/ Dc Direct "Legion Of Super Heroes" Star Boy. Shortened and sanded down gloves. Removed legs and used wooden dowels to widen hips. Cut off , sanded down boot toes and boottops. Sculpted neck, cape collar, and cape front. Bulked out shoulders, chest. Sculpted entire costume, belt, part of gloves, boottops, toes of boots. Batman IP Photos - Batman is made from the head, lower legs and lower arms of a DC Direct "Reactivated" Hush Batman. The torso, upper arms, and upper legs are DC Direct "Justice League Of America" Superman. The belt is from DC Direct "Crisis on Infinte Earths" Batman. The cape is from DC Direct "Reactivated" Super Friends Batman. Sanded down chest, abs, belt, briefs, legs. Sanded down forehead, reshaped chin and jaw. Dremeled down waist. Shortened legs. Sanded/ dremeled down inside cape at top. Cut/reshaped trim on gloves, sculpted over. Sculpted chest, emblem, briefs, part of arms, part of legs. The cape was having trouble staying glued down on one side, so I nailed it down it 3 places on his chest. Sculpted neck, front part of cape, ears of cowl. One thing the was intimidating me about this Batman was painting the Bat symbol. I'm not good at drawing, so the idea painting things like that kinda freak me out Luckily, though this Bat symbol isn't as neat and precise as ones in the comics. So I just freehand painted it, didn't turn out so bad Completed Statue- Alternate Views- Close-Ups- I didn't sculpt the capes or Batman's belt in the interest of saving time(and supplies) and using up fodder, but obviously if you've seen some of my other customs, belts and are totally something I can sculpt I wanna make more for this challenge, but not totally sure I can get something done.
