I've been commissioned to make a figure of a real person sitting on his Harley.
I've ordered a 1:12 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic Electra Glide. I hope it will turn out to be the right size for a 7" figure to sit on!
I've got to do a custom paint-job on the Harley. Not looking forward to it.
Does anyone have experience painting diecast models? Any tips about what gloss paints and brushes I should buy?

I would go with an acrylic base in maybe a white or gray matt and then (watered down with white spirit) enamels by Airfix or Umbro - but it has been a long time since I've used them! Hope that helps a bit.

I believe in the same area they sell models (cars, planes, etc) they sell paint for these types of realistic models. I think they are oiled based. That's as far as my knowledge goes. It'll be interesting to see what you do!

I've painted several metal figure models. You gotta put primer on for the paint to adhere or it'll just come off when you paint. You probably use whatever paint/brushes you normally use for customs(i'm not sure what you use). If the motorcycle is already painted, you could probably just rough up the part you need to paint a bit w/ sandpaper then paint it. Dunno if that helps any
