If this has been reported elsewhere , please feel free to delete this post... It was so sad yesterday when I read that Elizabeth Sladen; the actress best known for her role as Sarah Jane Smith on Doctor Who and then recently on The Sarah Jane adventures had passed away. It was reported that she died from cancer. It is truly sad and she will be missed... Sarah Jane Smith was for me; one of the most endearing characters to have ever graced the Whoverse.

That is such a shame. I loved her on the show. RIP Elizabeth

Yes its a real shame and she was so young. Never knew she was fighting cancer so it shocked me and still can't believe she's gone.
Just glad I got the chance to enjoy her work for the past 4 years on SJA.

I was extremely sad to read about Elisabeth Sladen passing away. I have her School Reunion figure standing next to my laptop right now, giving me a warm smile. Though I never knew Sladen, I will miss her.

She was the first Companion I saw, and though I believe Leela would kick her a__, she had some fantastic episodes. Sladen could convincingly act frightened, which ratcheted up the tension. (At least she did when I was a kid. I haven't watched any of the Tom Baker/Lis Sladen episodes as an adult.)
I know her character was famous for having been a companion who did not always need to be rescued, but frankly I remember most as being scared or terrified.
