Surprisingly, I am not very fond of Deluxe Series 2. There is not one figure I am satisfied with! Crazy considering I love Series 1. Didn't Spike wear his jacket in School Hard? I don't remember him ever taking it off in that episode. I don't like the Hawaiian shirted figures...stemming from issues I have with Hawaiian shirts in general. They just look tacky. It seems as is DST or Gentle Giant is getting lazy in regards to body structure in the figures. I have noticed this downward spiral ever since the Wes/Lorne figures. The sharing of parts between characters is excessive and is very noticeable. I would rather have one single PERFECT Angel figure, than many that look odd. IMO, none of the Angels released so far are up to par likeness wise, and sculpt wise. The figures are just starting to look sloppy to me. It is disheartening.

Surely School Hard Spike is also coming with his leather coat?
They're meant to have removeable jackets, so I would think he has his coat. Either that or his "clothes off" option would be t-shirt arms and the red over-shirt comes off?
Another thing that REALLY annoys me about these variant choices is that there are no match ups with the Buffy or Faith figures.
What's so wrong with doing an EOD Angel? He'd go well with EOD Buffy and even though they didn't share screen time, could also go with EOD Faith. Or a clothed Graduation Day Angel to go with Graduation Day Buffy?
School Hard Spike is a decent match for OMWF Spike, so he does well with OMWF Buffy. BUT why don't the Angels match?
I personally cannot understand the Hawaiian (sp?) and 50's variants? Sure they're distinctive looks, but only for one episode each (and not necessarily the whole episode). What about Victorian variants? They could have cobbled something together for a "Victorian" look surely?
Its good that others are pleased, I just cannot understand it myself. I just want a regular human version of both Angel and Spike in a "classic" look. Buffy and Faith didn't have a bunch of weird variants. All the figures were standard "looks" that they could have worn at any time in any episode.
Cheers, Haeph.

The hawaiian shirts are a weird choice to me. It would have worked better in the 6" line where there are many variants, but for it to be one of only three figures made seems strange (not counting battle damaged).
I would have preferred a more classic look too. Or for at least one of them to have been made to match buffy or faith.
Although, spike's pizza is waaaay cool!

As some user pointed out School Hard Spike can easily become a OMWF Spike (IF he comes with his jacket, if not we'll have to pilfer it from Destiny Spike) it made me think of other variants that can eaily be made from these.
So - 50's Angel - Not just from "Are You Now..Ever Been" but also could be him from the beginning of S5's "Why We Fight" if I remember the beginning correctly (I think he was just in a t shirt. Or was it a Wife Beater? Anyway, maybe that's why he's called 50's Angel and not "HYNOEB" Angel? Assuming he has some arms with no sleeves on them to swap. Anyone actually know yet what swappable parts they come with?
Given that the above does include plain arms, then he could easily also be a Deluxe Ring and Graduation Day Angel with a Head Swap (either Vamp or Regular, or even Bloody Vamp for the Buffy Bite Scene. Well, actually I guess we need bare feet to be truly accurate...). And since we have these figures already it's somewhat less desirable to remake them, but I think a Grad Day is needed to match as many have complained about the lack of "match ups".
Anybody have any other potential recipes? :-)

I got a little bit of a shock when I saw the variant choices for the deluxe line except school hard spike. From the pic I can tell that he looks very good and the new face sculpt is amazing (I think it's new?) ! As for the others doomed spike is one of the coolest figs ever.Woo look at that pizza! I sure will buy it and he'll look fantastic in my display! While 50's Angel looking good except the neck/head, sense&sensitivty is my least fave of them all. It's a very weird and unnecessary choice from my point of view. We have spikes with a classic look but not even one classic angel in the deluxe line nor the regular line. The vampire angel is the closest I guess. I was expecting an angel deluxe figure to go with the end of days buffy for sure but no... ;D Its good that others are pleased, I just cannot understand it myself. I just want a regular human version of both Angel and Spike in a "classic" look. Buffy and Faith didn't have a bunch of weird variants. All the figures were standard "looks" that they could have worn at any time in any episode. Couldnt agree more...

I have no problems at all with these figures, I think the head sculpts look great (from what I can make out) and the episode choices were totally unexpected which I like I think I'm just excited to get an updated 'School Hard' Spike!

After thinking over this for the past few days, though I'm not unhappy with "off" episode figures, I do think that the supposed purpose of the Deluxe line maybe wasn't used to the best effect here. I mean weren't the Deluxes supposed to be super poseable to re-create the intense phsyical fighting scenes of these characters? And I'll admit right now I could be totally wrong, but I don't recall Sense and Sensitivity Angel having any fight out of the oridinary in the Hawaiin shirt (sure, Angel always fights, but I'd think a classic fight scene would have been better served by Deluxe versions).
And even though I agree that the Spikes are all much better than the Angels, as much as I like Doomed SPike, I think he would have been more appropriate in the regular line as a variant (and I for one have serious doubts that he'll be in shorts as that would require unique legs, and that seems to be against the re-use of the Deluxes as well).
So - while I'll get all of these, I think - if they signify anything really - that it's a good sign for all the people who didn't want the Deluxe figures to *only* be of the "Fighters" on the shows - as we clearly have a couple Angels and at least one Spike in Deluxe incarnations from scenes where fighting either wasn't the prominent piece of the storyline, or non-existent entirely (i.e. Spike and his Pizza Box). So who knows, maybe we'll get that cross legged Chosen Willow (with swappable hair - PLEASE!) and a few other of the "non-physical" characters in super poseable form! Hooray! I say! :-)

Off topic, btvschosen, I'm seriously digging your banner! That scene where they finally vanquish Cole for good is one of my favorites. Your banner is awesome!

ok this is is all said in a calm, normal voice. i'm not yelling or calling anyone stupid. this is a simple statement of fact. please do not turn this into screaming match like some other posts have. thank you allot of people are asking 'why did DST chose some of the variants they did?'. I'll tell you why. economics DST is not a vehicle through which all our Buffy/Angel dreams to come through, artistically prefect and priced cheaper then doughnuts. they are a business and they want to make money. but making figures has allot of 'hidden' costs associated with it. for one, making molds for each part of a figure is expensive. so expensive that many companies 're-tool' existing molds rather then make new ones. so to make 8 completely different figure is a pricey undertaking. an easy way to make money to to re-use parts, getting to most bang for their mold's buck. so let's look at the make-up of some of our figures Destiny Angel, Destiny Spike, School Hard Spike, and 50s Angel all share the same upper arms School Hard Spike and Destiny Angel share the same lower arms Destiny Angel and Sense and Sensitivity Angel share the same torso 50s Angel, School Hard Spike and Destiny Spike share the same torso Sense and Sensitivity Angel and Doomed Spike share the same lower arms all the Angels share the same lower body and i'm guessing all the Spikes will be sharing the same lower body in fact the only 'single use' parts I see are the heads, Sense and Sensitivity Angel's upper arms, 50s Angel's lower arms, Doomed Spike torso and upper arms and the 4 re-movable jackets. I am not saying this is a bad thing. the re-use of parts brings down to price of figures. I personal would prefer 8 figures that have some part swapping and that are reasonable priced then maybe 4 figures, 110% episode specific for only 'important' episodes and at twice the cost. but this is all just one view of things.

Frankly, they had me at "Spike" and "Angel." I don't know if the "Doomed" Spike has shorts or jeans, but in the episode he had somehow managed to get a pair of jeans (blue, not his usual black) in place of Xander's cut-off shorts by the time he discovered he could fight demons ("I'm back, and I'm a bloody animal!"). So, for both episode continuity and easier re-use of parts, he'd probably have the jeans. And I think he'd look neat displayed next to SaS Angel, both in their Hawaiian shirts. And I'm glad the '50s Angel has the James Dean-ish, "Rebel Without A Pulse" red jacket. Actually, all four figures of each vamp matches visually with one of the other vamp: Destiny Angel & Destiny Spike, Battle-Damaged Angel & Battle-Damaged Spike, Hawaiian vamps, red jacketed/overshirted vamps. They parallel each other well.

I wonder if you could put the Spike jacket and the Spike shirt on the same figure?

I do think they all look great but I feel that, once again, I will be buying Angel & Spike figures that, once again, don't have one single figure in their trademark outfits. I will buy one of each of them to hang & display, but I will not be buying doubles & triples of all of them like I do the other figures. The only ones I care about getting to open are schoolhard Spike & Destiny Spike. I am hoping I can switch their jackets so I can finally have a regular Spike in his black coat. I wonder if Destiny Spike's coat will fit on 50's Angel? Somebody please let me know if they do and I will buy them to open as well. If they are all interchangable, hell, I might wind up buying triples of them all after all. I am so weak.

My hope remains with a "Becoming" Buffy and Angel two-pack with Angel in his "classic/trademark" black leather pants, red (?) collared shirt and black 3/4 leather coat.
I still cannot understand why DST have produced unique pieces like 50's Angels jacket rather than a 3/4 jacket? Nor do I understand why companion variants haven't been chosen like EOD Angel, Graduation Day Angel and a "complete" OMWF Spike (that comes with his coat to go over the red shirt).
It wouldn't require any real additional pieces, except a 3/4 length coat for the Angel variants as the coat arms, legs and torso could all be recycled from the Destiny Angel.
Eh, I'll quit complaining soon. Its just that the different approach taken with the Spike/Angel lines as compared to Buffy/Faith baffles me.
Cheers, Haeph.
