I took some pictures of the new Deluxe figures.
If you want to read my intial impression and review of the figures, you can find it at the end of the post below the pictures.
Without further ado, the pics!
As you can see, this does not include EOD Buffy, or Bad Girls Faith, which I have not received yet.
OK, first impressions. When I saw these in the store still in their packaging, I thought 'Buffy looks great!'. A very good likness to Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Faith figures looked 'alright', nothing different from previous pictures I had seen on the net. Since bringing these figures home and opening them, I'm finding my opinion of the figures changing.
Where I still think the Buffy figures are good liknesses, I'm starting to really appreciate the sculpting that went into the Faith figure. I know, I know, I certain I'm going to be in the minority here, but after spending many hours studing Eliza Dushku's features for a custom Faith I did, I can see elements in the Deluxe sculpt that really does give a good approximation of Faiths features. If the expression on her face wasn't so bland, and a little more definition had been added to thje paint opps on her eyes and lips, I think this could really have been a great likeness to the character. Anyway, I am starting to appreciate the Faith figure more then I thought I would.
Now to some of the problems I experienced with the figures.
The first figure I opened was OMWF Buffy. The paint opps were good, but the joints were a little loose, so I had a little trouble at first getting her to stand. She fell a couple of times at first, but I 'can' get her to stand on her own.
The second one I opened was Grad Day Buffy. I found no problems with this figure. The paint was great, the limbs were tight, and shes the only one who hasn't fallen over. Over all she is the best of all 4 figures.
The third one I opened was EOD Faith. Again, good paint opps, and the limbs over all were snug and posable. She is my second favorite and very close to Grad Day Buffy in my over all appreciation of the figures.
Last came Grad Day Faith, and she had the biggest flaws. Since I had bought a case of the figures, I received 4 Grad Day Faiths, and I wasn't really looking at the figure I was opening in my excitement of having at least one of each opened. The paint opps on the clothes were horrible. Imagine using nail polish remover on your painted figure and then leaving the remaining paint to dry to a dull grayish tacky consistensey. Two of the four had paint like this. Of the two remaining figures ones face had chips of paint nicked out of it. I decided to at least try and pose the first Faith with the other figures for some pictures when I snapped her left leg off. Since I'm not an expert on highly articulated figues, it could have been my over enthusiasm that caused the breakage. Either way, as the above pictures can testify, I didn't try to do any more elaborate poses (at least for tonight).
I do think that there could be some problems with the tightness of the joints, as I found that the 2nd Grad Day Faith I opened has extremely loose joints where the legs connect to the hips. I still got her to stand for the pics, and am hoping to find a some fixit for the loose joints (Someone out there has to have a homemade remedy for this).
As to the paint problems on the Grad Day Faiths. Since I found no such problems with the other three figures, I'm hoping this is just an abberation, and no one else finds the same problems.
All that being said, except for the problems with Grad Day Faith, my over all impression of these new figures is quite favorable. I like the look of this new wave of Deluxe figures, and I'm looking forward to receiving my EOD Buffy and Bad Girls Faith.
