I bought some sculpey this weekend at WalMart and it's a completely different texture than the harder, drier kind I've been using from Michaels Crafts. The Michaels kind comes in a smaller package and hardens into a more plasticy hardness that crumbles easily.
The WalMart sculpey is white and comes in a big package. This kind is much stickier. I can't do layers of the sculpey, without it melding together pretty quickly. This sculpey is hard to mold without caving in. It hardens into a more ceramic feel.
I'm so confused about which kind of sculpey different customizers use. I can tell that the Fyarl Giles I recently bought from Jinxieman, as well as Alyrenee's customs are from the Michaels harder type of sculpey.
Buffyville's Angel Puppet and Mrs. John McBain's customs are more ceramic in feel, so I think they use the softer, slightly sticky sculpey. Does anyone know about the differences?
Also, how can you control the stickier kind, so that you can pile layers of say hair on top, without it all melding together?
I like the ceramic type better in the finished product. It seems better for sculpting clothes without lumps. It's easy to smooth. But how do people use it to make hair?

There are 4 types of Sculpey .... Sculpey, Super Sculpey, Sculpey III and Premo Sculpey. And I believe they have come out with a firm version of Super Sculpey.
I have found that most customizers use the Super Sculpey. Sculpey is known for being a very brittle clay, the least brittle of the lot is the Premo.
Premo and Sculpey III comes in different colors, while Super just comes in a beige color.
