Hey Had...I've been at my job since the 19th of May, and for the most part, I love it. However, our air conditioning went out the other day, and I'm really sensitive to heat...I get really sick to my stomach, and wake up in the middle of the night either dry heaving or vomiting. I called in on Friday, and again today, and, unbeknownst to me, so did my roommate. Temperatures here are reaching record highs, and I don't want to have to miss more work than I have to (I love the money!)
We got an e-mail this afternoon/morning from our boss, saying that we needed to take responsibility and all this stuff, but GOOD LORD, isn't it part of her responsibility to make sure we're working in a climate controlled environment, and not getting sick from the fact that we're overheating?
I think I am going to find a new job, because this is not something that I can deal with; I cannot deal with someone telling me I have to have permission to be sick; I can't help it, and last I checked, illness was classified as an emergency. ~RK

Whose the manager over there? I'll beat him up!
I just quit my new job today, too. I'm heading to Lexington, since I'm being kicked out of the house. ;(
And man, you're not kidding!! It's up to the 90s in the north of Kentucky! I can't imagine what it is down there!!

Last summer I was working at a snack bar with absolutely no air conditioning or even windows. We had the grill on and ovens and during the peak time (they have a little 2 week carnival type thing) it was over 90 degrees in there ALL the time and I was working +12 hour days. I had my body break out with a heat rash and boss was all oh well, I sucked it up and felt like crap all day then I went to the doctor and ended up with heat stroke from it. The next day it was so bad that I had to leave early and the boss seriously bitched me out for it. I quit on the spot. You have to take care of you first, no job is worth that especially a crap job like mine where you get $8 an hour. Some people think you only live to make them money, it isn't right.

Have you tried to explain the circumstances to your boss? Maybe if you told them how severly you react to not having A/C arrangements could be made. I know how you guys feel though. At my old job we had to collect shoes for people from the stockroom downstairs. Not only did the A/C brake but we ran out of water in the water cooler as well so we running around for like 7 1/2 hours a day getting seriously dehydrated.

Our A/C in the house has broken! LOL. I didn't even notice...tells you how I like to be hot...lol.
Anyways, it's become noticeable now with this heat wave we're getting in Kentucky. These storms (I don't know, it was raining in the Lexington, too...) should cool it down somewhat. Keep the air flowing, and the fans a'blowin'!

Well, my roommate turned in his two weeks yesterday (we work at the same place)...he isn't scheduled anymore...today was his last day. Our AC was fixed today, so I don't think it will be a problem anymore. ~RK

That's awesome RK! I'm glad it worked out.
My advice would have been - ask them about getting it fixed, and if they cause trouble or are mean, you should stand up for how you feel (especially if it effects your health.) I'm sorry I didn't get a response to you earlier. I'm glad it was fixed.
My advice about jobs is to really try and get the ones you want, and if you can't get the ones you want, find one that suits you for the time being.
