...after reading many of the posts here and at SideshowFreaks about the Sideshow situation with the Buffy line ending I have to weigh in one last time (well, probably won't be the last but...you know). Everyone is talking about what figures they were hoping for and I do agree for the most part in some of the opinions. But I just picked up the new Buffy magazine today with the Sideshow interview featured and Brant (Sideshow rep) stated how they were proud of the line and how they thought they'd adequetely featured the "core" characters before ending the line. Darn it, but everyone is talking about Illyria and Wes and Gunn but gosh, if they (Sideshow) knew it was coming to an end (Angel line notwithstanding) although there are a couple of figs we would ALL want, I just can't get past the fact that Anya was left out. We NEEDED Giles, of course, but Anya has been a Scoobie from Season 4 and was introduced as early as season 3 and she is too darned important to not have done. It wouldn't be as bleak I think if they'd just added Anya as well as Giles. It could be argued that Tara falls into that category as well but DEFINITELY Anya first. Just in terms of length of time on the show. Oh well, I just had to get that off my chest. I will always feel that the Buffy line of figs was not quite complete as a result.

I agree. Apparently, two more Buffy figures and two more Angel figures were in the works when Sideshow decided to place the line on hold. I bet that Anya or/and Anyanka was/were going to be next.

What bothers me the most about both the Sideshow line ending and the DST line ending is that both companies have used the phrase "core characters" without truly defining that. At least Sideshow admitted to having done some crazy one-off characters too, but you can't say that they've covered the "core" characters. I've seen people with "core" lists that are much longer than mine, but I'd at least have to define "core" as characters that were in the opening credits for multiple seasons. On the Sideshow line, that means we're missing Dawn (seasons 5-7), Anya (seasons 5-7), Gunn (seasons 2-5), Fred (seasons 3-5) and Wesley (seasons 1-5). Riley was credited over multiple seasons, but his number of credited episodes is basically one season's worth; Tara was credited for just one episode; Connor only one season; Harmony only 6 episodes. I don't think I'm missing anyone, but I'm sure I'll have to edit this thread 3 or 4 times to be sure. I'd understand if it were just the Buffy line. Missing one core character after multiple years of the line isn't so bad. But ending the Angel line, saying the core characters have been covered after releasing just 3 of them is terrible. There's no way a show that's been on for 5 years only has 3 core characters (and even if it did, Wesley is more of a core character than Lorne). Still, this will help me save a lot of money. Edited to add Dawn, because I'm a moron (thanks Jinxieman! - 1 edit down, 2-3 to go)

From Ask Sideshow...
The part in parentheses is key. This claim is essentially true.

Nah, I have to disagree. Not without Anya (pertaining to the Buffy line). The Angel line, if you can call 3 figures a line, is a disaster for collectors for sure but Anya was surely "core" to the Buffy show.
If you look at the series in it's entirety, how could you say any different?

But I think they are saying Original Buffy cast. Which would include Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, Angel, and Cordelia...even Darla and the Master. So the statement does hold true. But if they were talking about the entire run, then of course, they are missing key characters. (like Dawn, Black-ops, she had 3 seasons of credits with no SS figure)

Yeah, the original cast is the Season 1 cast. I agree that Anya is the most important Buffy character that wasn't made into a figure though. It's a shame.

Wesley was next. Another Buffy and Spike were due. Thats it. Gunn was never an option, neither was Tara, Anya, or Dawn. Sorry.

Two for BTVS and two for Angel. Makes me sad not to get to see them. And I did want to finally be able to get a good looking, reasonably priced human Spike.

Several members here can vouch for me as Ive 'predicted' the last 8 or so figures before they were released (Darla, D'Hoff, Xander etc).

I just read that the Buffy season 8 comic has just sold out! Buffy Season 8 could start a whole new exciting resurgance of Buffy interst. I am hopeful.

So with them saying things are on hold whats the chance they will release more? putting the line on hold isnt the same as canceling the line is it? maybe I dumb but I dont understand all the little terms they use somtimes.
