I admit, I bought one just to be the completionist that I am.

Far too favourite a character to pass on an action figure of her, even if the action figure is hideous.
However, Fred is posed right at the back of the display behind everyone else to make her look smaller due to forced perspective. It doesn't really work all that well, as she still looks incredibly muscular and manly compared to Wesley and Lorne, but she is the only Fred they made (and possibly will be the only Fred ever made).
Its not just her scale which is a problem, though that obviously contributes to it, but the sculpt is so "block" like even if it was "shrunk" it would still appear manly.
I also purchased Illyria, but the scale doesn't bother me so much because she was such a powerful/forceful character that it seems somewhat appropriate for her to be as large as the boys.
Cheers, Haeph.

As said by the countless others, I bought Illyria, becuase the scale doesn't bother me. She was such a powefrul character, and should be as big as da boys. With Fred, I bought her to keep when Dawn came out. If you switch the heads with Lessons Dawn and fred, the scale works fine. Dawn looks more in scale with a Fred body, and Fred looks more normal with a Dawn body. Of course I got some Fred's for customs, as well

I think that the Fred figure would've looked a little better if they wouldn't have shortened her neck to try to make her the same scale as the other figures. It made the figure look so horrible.

I bought one becuase I just liked the idea of having the lovable Fred in my collection, and when she came, all I really got was the sort of intimidating Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk.

I caved and bought one even though I hadn't planned on it. I was able to get her for only $5.99 from an online comic book shop. I needed to spend five more dollars for free shipping for my order, so I had no choice but to get the mega Fred.
I was hoping the figure looked better in my hands than on the internet, sadly it really doesn't. I keep my "Angel" figures in their package, so the scale matters a bit less. Fred is displayed on the highest part of my wall to prevent folks from getting a good look at her awesome size.

I bought them only to customize. I haven't gotten the chance to make a Fred custom yet, but I'm getting there. Her body works pretty well for man customs, right now I'm using her body for a Xander custom.
I also own two Fred customs made by other people, they're so much better than the original Fred.

I got her and customized her into a beautiful Shells Fred custom. The facial likeness is perfect for Fred/Amy Acker.... just needed a customizer's touch.

I bought one battle dress Illyria and I have to say she's my all time favorite figure and I bought one cheap "The Price" Fred from another board member for customizing after I saw Girl Power's excellent smiling Fred customs ...

I bought one, and a second to customize.
And if (when I ever get round to making it) the second one turns looking better in my eyes than the official Fred, then the custom'll wind up taking her spot on my collection, and the official one'll get customized.
Hmm, did that make sense?
I wound up deabting between a few of those options.

I caved and bought one just the other day. I think the figure is gross, but like everyones been saying its the only Fred out. I think im going to put her head on the season 4 Willow body though.

Sire - the Fred head on the Willow body will be a challenge - her head is definitely much larger than the Willow figures and thus looks very odd (some people have successfully used the pigtails to help hide the mismatched scale). I originally was going to put her head on S5 Willow's body but it just looked really werid (tho with the new Buffy's and her big head, it may not be as strange as it once was!). <grin> Also, I found when I made my "small Fred" custom that her "buns" of hair on the very top of her head could be cut off and/or sanded down to greatly improve her head scale. And finally, I remember someone made a custom from the Fred mini -ornament's head which is reportedly slightly smaller than the action figure head! GO figure! :-)
As for the Fred's I bought, I forgot to list that I too bought the Illyria figure in addition to Shells and Fredenstein. I agree she is very well done, and the scale issue is least obtrusive on her. I always just pretended her size was one of her "appearance modifications" (like when she changed into Fred) to appear more intimidating to those around her....yeah, I know, nerd boy here. :-) Oh, and one final thing - I remember when she came out that a lot of people thought the outfit from "The Price" was an odd choice...but after watching the Angel repeats, I realized she actually wore that outfit in 3 episodes (back to back of course, but still - that's gotta be some kind of record methinks!). And of course they picked it so they could re-us the parts for Shells Illyria, but just wanted to point out it wasn't as bizarre a choice as it first seemed for a Season 3 Fred. Of course Fredless would still be the definitive Fred IMO (or more specifically, the jeans versions). I wonder if it's possible to do some kind of "percentage" crafting of a new run of figures using the current molds to make a smaller figure? I read there are various types of plastic and that some shrink quite a bit once made - I wonder if it would be enough to get a better scaled Fred? I agree with the above poster that her neck needs to be longer - Fred was definitely well endowed in the neck area. Or even maybe some enterprising customizer could make a new mold from the existing figure and then use some technique (the type of plastic that shrinks if it's real would be too expensive, but maybe some resin/polymer stuff that might shrink?) to run through a few iterations of producing the figure, shrink it, make a new mold, make the figure, shrink, and so on until we get a good scale Fred. I wonder if that's possible, finacially feasible, etc...I know, I'm dreaming. And with all the Amazonia female figures we're getting, Fred's not as bad as she was at first...still the "Grand Gal" of them all, but not the only one.

If there is a Fred in a turtle neck then they could re-use Dawn's body. The neck length and height work great for Fred.

I bought her and I like her. I have her on display with the other figures and she fits right in, actually. I have her next to a wesley and they look fine together and then I have MAC Angel and Cordy next to them (on bases) and the 4 look really good together.
I was much more disappointed with Fred before I put her in my display but now I really like her.
