Hi, and a big welcome to the forum! Thanks for sharing the photos. What a shame this figure didn't go into production - it's fabulous! Do you actually own this???

A real shame. The DST version just pales to this one. It's extra disappointing when there's prototypes out there, because it means casts could be made. I tried to get hold of the original Wes on ebay once for this reason.

Would be cool if one of us got hold of the prototypes and made moulds but would that be copy right ??

This was a great sculpt indeed, I saw the prototype in person at a convention years ago. It was even better painted. MAC's Buffy series 5 figures were all looking great, with only Adam looking a little awkward. Man I would love to have those now though! Riley and Adam are two big holes in the collection.

Riley with the mask on was just lazy. I would've love to see a prototype head with the option of removing the mask.

Yeah I agree and a re verbose mask would be abit cheap I think if the mask was supposed to be there it would but if it had an elastic back that would be cool

A bit off topic, but I know an old member on here (FM I think) had a prototype Enemies (might have been Sanctuary) Faith that he won from DST at a convention. That would've been so sweet to get casts in some capacity! Pretty sure it was an unpainted, multi-coloured plastic thing. I'd have been tempted to paint it personally! I think the primary dilemma is your own confidence when moulding/painting something so rare. MAC prototypes would've been alright I think, but I always found the elbow and knee joints in DST figures are a PAIN to put back together once taken apart, and keep the joint tight thereafter.
The Giles was great, but I'd have loved the Adam figure a bit more! And the Wes was nicer, I think, than the ones we got (though they aren't that bad)

Both version of Faith were showcased so it could've been either one. I saw the DLX version of Tough Love Willow and Sexy Outfit Willow Unpainted no skirt for like $100.00 on eBay coming from China I believe is where the seller was sending it from.

I actually own the MAC proto unpainted master sculpt non articulated resin Demon Giles figure - purchased it legitimately from Clay's brother.
I am not sure how legal casts are to be made since it is copyrighted MAC. It is a decent figure and much better than the DST version. Shame as I believe the DST was a retool for cost effectiveness. OMWF Anya was also a MAC sculpt provided to DST during the license transition which was modified.
The pre-prods surfacing occasionally from China are factory tests from random bits of plastic hence the odd colours but they are legit. Most are grossly overpriced and the sellers do try to cash-in, also there are a fair few bidders on eBay who go loopy and bid hundreds of dollars for no reason.

If you were to sell casts from that sculpt, I'm not sure it would violate the copyright of MAC since they are now defunct. I don't know if DST purchased the rights to the sculpts including those that they didn't produce, or even how copyrights work on a sculpt. If you advertised it as a Buffy figure without licensing it from 20th Century Fox, that would of course be illegal. It's interesting to ponder this stuff!
You must have quite the collection madvicks!

Most likely it would fall under patent - Even though the company is now umm.. unavilable it's still had the rights. If MAC sold some of their original sculpts than that means DST didn't get all of their projects in regards to Buffy.
If you plan on doing it, I would list it as an "unofficial prop replica of MAC Demon Giles recast from an origianl piece." This would pretty much cover the category of the listing as a reproduction of a prop piece. I've seen this done before.

You'd never make enough money or attention selling casts to get in any sort of trouble. I'm a little surprised no-one's thought to do this before, but I guess these proto's have to fall in the right hands first. I've done a little bit of casting, and it would be a pain the ass to do, especially for a scuplt as complicated as the demon Giles figure. Never-the-less, I bet you could find enough interested buyers to cover the costs of casting with a little extra for your troubles. I mentioned up the page that I tried to get hold of a MAC Wesley once with casts in mind. Sadly the auction vanished from ebay before I even bid. I ended up making my own reproduction of the figure using the ornament that was released:
