On the 20th December, Rittenhouse Archives announced on their Facebook page that Sarah Michelle Gellar has agreed to sign for them: BRILLIANT news! They hadn't made any announcement or remarks about an upcoming Buffy set before this, so I think it's ok to infer that the set was contingent on getting her specifically to sign cards. Given she never signed for Inkworks this is pretty spectacular, either she's softened with the years or more cynically it may speak about the current state of her career, but regardless it's a nice addition after all this time and great to see new Buffy merchandise! I've only collected Angel cards before, they were easier to get hold of and had a more comprehensive autograph list, but I'll definitely be investing in this. Hopefully we'll see a really good list of names attached to the final auto list!

I think Sarah has finally realized that her success with Buffy isn't going away and the fans have stuck with it over the years as well. If you follow her on Twitter she is always posting cute Buffy references. Sometimes I think she just does it to promote The Crazy Ones but I like to think she does it because she wants to and she loves the show and the fans still. Hopefully with this we will get the auto cards and NEW MERCH!!! AHHH!

Hmm maybe an anniversary set again. Also I think Sarah is doing very well. And on this last note - I wouldn't hold my breath on being able to get an autograph card. It'll probably be a low number signing and distribution would be hard to come by not to mention how much they would charge per CASE - NOT by BOX. If it's a good distribution you can expect 1 of her card per CASE - if that.
I'd expect $150+ for just her card alone, if the signing is low in number could go as high as $300 to $500 just because people would want it so badly. The artwork will be different from Inkworks more than likely so it wouldn't fit the original set perfectly unless the bought the rights to the design of the card.

I know right? I slowly fell out of interest with figures around 2006-ish and cards became my main collecting hobby (couldn't deal with both, THE FUNDS!) I think it's safe to say costume cards will turn up in some capacity! I think I read that when Inkworks sold off their stock, it included some unused costumes... Additionally Rittenhouse is a big fan of sketch cards - they don't float my boat but they may well turn up too. They don't use actor likenesses, but if the set covers the comics too, (I don't see why it shouldn't) then they're almost a given. You know, I've never thought to search for her on Twitter actually! I follow Amy Acker and J August Richards, and near all of the Firefly cast who have twitter... I basically just use it for Uberfacts... Hmm maybe an anniversary set again. Also I think Sarah is doing very well. And on this last note - I wouldn't hold my breath on being able to get an autograph card. This is pretty much a given with all card sets... $150 is definitely a conservative price there! Have you heard the latest Star Trek set? Benedict Cumberbatch is a NINE case incentive card. Crazy. But the fact that it will exist is where the excitement lies Trading cards are effectively all about hunting the last missing pieces down at the end of the day. It's like extreme jigsawing, if it was that easy to complete it would feel much less satisfying!

Don't get me wrong Ouija, it is good to have if you can get it or more like if you can afford it. I personally don't have that luxary of shoving out that much money of $150 to $500 for a single card. Heck I can't even afford the Scythe right now which I really wouldn't mine getting. Just have to wait and see I guess. If you ask me, we are total opposite. I gave up on cards... or cut waaaay back and went after figures. Oddly enough they are sometimes easier to find. Not like buying boxes of cards to go after just one card and never getting the one you want. (I remember those dark times. Somewhere out there a Angel A24 has mine name on it.). I did this back with TOPPS Dark Angel Series for the ALBA card and didn't get it and the DAREDEVIL movie card for either the Costume card or the Ben Affleck card. I did eventually get the Costume Card, but not the other too. I did get signed cards but not the official released ones.

I might pick up a pack or two just for the fact that it's Buffy related. I've never really have been into trading cards but seeing new Buffy merchandise being produced excites me, maybe if these sell well it could lead to new figures or maybe even a Buffy Blu-ray release!

Maybe they did the old buffy movie on blu-ray I hope I'm not going too out of topic on a trading card thread but If you are referring to Kristy Swanson movie, that has been released on Blu-ray already for quite some time now.

I did eventually get the Costume Card, but not the other too. I did get signed cards but not the official released ones. Nor do I, but I think here, as general collecting advice, it's worth saying that I wouldn't ever choose to try and buy it - or any very high end card - outright through the aftermarket (unless it's accidentally under priced of course ). I'd only ever seek to trade up for it; through friends, online, or else maybe a card dealer. If it takes years to get good enough cards to trade for it, it's fine.* If my interest in Buffy cards wains before that, then it obviously wouldn't be an issue anymore. I don't think I'm alone in that view, but yes like you there are a fair amount of people who would rather just pay for it and do away with the (sometimes disappointing) search. Ostensibly viewing it as unobtainable without even trying is the consumer's choice but as merchandise goes, cards are deliberately designed with varying levels of scarcity to get people to chase them (and buy more...) and that's where the entertainment lies and why I likened it to a jigsaw - it's fun to complete but once it's done, it just kind of sits on a shelf. Line from the Dark Knight. The Joker; "I'm like a dog chasing cars, I wouldn't know what to do if I actually caught one!" It's the same as near any other card set around, for so many franchises, so you do kind of know what you're getting into before throwing money at collecting. Of course buying boxes and hoping you pull one is the dream, and it does happen. Trading cards are fundamentally intended for trading, of course Sarah Michelle Gellar's autograph will be the scarcest card in the set, but if you don't get her card and, for the sake of an example here, you pull Eliza Dushku's, you wouldn't be too upset I'm sure! If you pull Random Onlooker #3, then yes the card set is not well structured and it's probably not a good thing to pursue boxes. This is just my view, I just largely want to turn the thread away from depressingly thinking about prices to more the excitement about collecting and, importantly, the potential sets for years to come! Just a gut feeling but I really do think that Rittenhouse will try and cover much of the comic content too and not just the TV show! *This is Rittenhouse, they have a tendency to get an actor to sign cards years in advance and slowly seed them in more and more sets. There'll likely be more opportunities to get her autograph in other sets later... The more there are, the greater the chances of owning one! Did you get all of those signed in person yourself? Impressive man! It's highly unlikely I'll get to many conventions or meet the majority of cast. I live in Bath (of early season 7 Willow/Giles fame) so I see Tony Head around occasionally, but I don't think I'd ever approach him doing his daily business, only if it was an actual signing event.

My collection is ALL eBay. I only deal with a few sellers when collecting and mainly those sellers that have been selling for more than a few years. I'm not sure if anyone has bought stuff from Photogal100 or H.O.F. C&C out of Omaha, NE - but I got a lot of cards from them. Rittenhouse I believe did some Marvel and my fave Xena Warrior Princess. I wouldn't be surprised if there where sketch cards thrown in the mix as well. Also I wouldn't be surprised if Sarah or any other cast members where to sign autograph cards with POP Century Razor. They cover a lot more stuff. I wish Eliza had autographed some cards with them, but I got that very rare zipper swatch card. imageshack.us/photo/my-images/594/sany0628.jpg/

Nice Eliza card! I know Nicholas Brendon signed for one of the Razor sets. I've seen some Charisma Carpenter and Amber Benson autographs released, with either Razor or LEAF sets. My issue with those is the longevity of signing on stickers... history shows than ink on card will last a long time but will the glue in those? Wouldn't want to invest without knowing how long it will take them to peel and curl up at the ends. And of course they have to write smaller! Some more updates on the set: From the recent newsletter: And various posts on their forums in response to full name signatures, whether the comics will be covered in the sets, and if her autograph would be an incentive card: So "The Complete Buffy The Vampire Slayer"! Highly questionable if they'll include the comics, given the remark 'retrospective'. EDIT: I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Rittenhouse was releasing a set for Defiance - the only thing I can find is them saying "We agree" when told by a fan that it would make a good set - but in any case, and the fact she has signed for quite a few other sets (Roswell, Dexter, Supernatural) I think it's safe to say Julie Benz will be contacted. It's also worth mentioning that Tony Head has signed cards for Rittenhouse before too, for Highlander. All speculation, but I'd love a comprehensive signer list! Their success with the Game of Thrones behemoth of a cast has been outstanding!

If the response is we love to hear from you... It's pretty much demand and supply. They will probably go after your favorite actors within the series. The fact that they are putting her autograph into circulation means nothing. What does is the number of cards signed and the ratio or odds of pulling her auto. Sense the answer is vague no one can make any assumptions until further notice. The only thing that was answered is that it is not dealers only or case topper.

Little blunt. It's a discussion thread, it's about discussion, discussion begets speculation! It's in the early stages. It's about saying "Oh I hope this person signs, it's nice to know they're asking fans directly who to specifically bother pursuing, it's nice to know that I can go tell them directly!" People have been asking for the likes of Amy Adams, for example! A bigger name than she was in Buffy, people would love her autograph, she's not in a lot of TV and sets based on movies these days are getting rarer! It's the quirky guest stars that are really popular with fans that this helps, of course they're going to be asking the main cast regardless! I want to keep this thread fresh, and get the discussion going, any relevant update is good! The title is suggestive. Just as "Women of Sunnydale" would be. It's not a "True Blood Legends" type set that's completely ambiguous, or a "Eureka Seasons 1&2" set that tells you it won't have Jaime Ray Newman or other later cast members signing. It's actually going to be this year, (great!) in late 2014, and yes it's likely not an incentive. Any answer is relevant! I think I'm approaching this with much more unbridled enthusiasm and may be seeing anything negative too harshly? It's great to see any merchandise of something you love, as long as it's done right!

Bummer they didn't release any more info on potential other signers or about the set. Just an image of the card. It is very Rittenhouse and not inkworks. So have to wait again for more details. Collecting the Xena cards they did awhile back with their autographs they did over 50 plus actors which made it a very collectiable set.
I hope the core cast will sign for this set, if not the next set and continue a whole new series.
