Hello again! I decided to spend a few hours tonight making something that's such a huge weapon in terms of the Buffyverse... The HUNGA FREAKIN MUNGA! I know some of you may not like it (apparently it's a "boring" weapon - I beg to differ) It's a great weapon that featured in the season three episode 'Anne' and was also featured in the opening credits for quite some time, so I see it as a pinnacle weapon of choice for the slayer fan It's made from resin, I used filler to make the resin mix go further - it's what also gives it the grey tone. Although I will be spraying it to give it more of a dirty metal look I used the measurements of the actual one used on screen to get it as accurate as possible. I know it isn't quite right, but it looks close enough for me so I'm pretty happy with it. As soon as my new leather lace arrives (I ordered extra when I made the mods to my Sword) I'll have this finished. More pics will follow but here's the progress so far! Thoughts? *UPDATE* I've sanded it down even more to get it extra smooth on the surface and extra sharp on the edges and points. It could probably do some actual damage now aha! It's had 2 coats of spray paint now so I'm really just waiting for the leather to arrive Hopefully tomorrow or Monday! ***COMPLETED***

If I may be bold to make a suggestion. I think you should add wood to the handle prior to the leather guard wrap. If not, then maybe a piece of heavy tin/aluminum. You know something that would give it a nice sturdy grip. The sanding of the edges is quite fine and looks very sharp.

Thank you for the suggestion but I'm pretty certain the leather bound around the handle will give enough grip. Here's a pic of the one they used on screen from the 'propking's collection. It doesn't look like there is any wood or anything other than leather on the handle. And yes the edges are very sharp!!

The reason why I suggested wood or aluminum metal to the hand guard is because it's cast out of resin. Thus, it can be easily broken if mishandled and also to protect your hand while holding it for a nice firm grip.
If you're able to do this then a Slayer Scythe maybe not too far behind?? I was thinking of creating one out of wood.

I was thinking of creating one out of wood. Ah okay, fair enough. Although I made it from a pretty thick slab of resin, as I said it's very strong/sturdy so I doubt it's going to get broken. It's not a flimsy bit of plastic... I also have no intention to mishandle it, merely display it. I only imagine it would break if it were slammed against another hard surface... But then again I'm not planning on using it as a toy (or as a weapon to kill demons in a Hell Dimension under the streets of LA). For that reason I'm sticking with just the leather straps, it's not a toy

Stunning, simply stunning. You did an outstanding job on this prop, especially since you made it from scratch. Very very well done! Loves it.

I've never seen or used this technique for casting before, great work! Its a great idea for a one off, saves on expensive moulding materials. The shape looks pretty spot on and the colour is nice. Looks shiny. Nice leather wrapping on this too. And I agree, it is a fantastic weapon (Plus it has a wicked name!) Great work Ah okay, fair enough. Although I made it from a pretty thick slab of resin, as I said it's very strong/sturdy so I doubt it's going to get broken. It's not a flimsy bit of plastic... I also have no intention to mishandle it, merely display it. I only imagine it would break if it were slammed against another hard surface... For that reason I'm sticking with just the leather straps, it's not a toy This is a common problem i face with my props. Resin is strong, unless it is dropped or slammed against something. You could drop it from a height and it would be fine and then sharply lay it on a surface and it would snap. Especially in thin long sections (the shape of the casting plays a huge part in the strength) But as Greg said, it is not a toy, its purely for display. Once its on the wall/display case. It is unlikely to be played with.
