Hey hey, I am starting this new project at uni for audience research and looking at how fans of twilight film franchises define their fandom in relation to other film franchises like buffy for example. This being a greatttt buffy lover sight i thought would be the best place to see what people say.
It'd be interesting to see how many hardcore buffy/angel/true blood/blade etc lovers like twilight as it is very different of course.
thanks ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D -charl

That's a tough question to answer, but i hope I can help in some way with my response. I have and always will love anything with the inclusion of vampires, however it was BTVS itself that started my slight obsession. Twilight was great for me in filling a void that was left behind once Buffy had finished airing, but i did'nt have the same internal reaction to the twilight saga. Buffy is great as i feel it deals with teenage angst so cleverly and helped me dealing with issues I had in my life at the time. To many of today's youth I imagine it is a little dated, but to me i feel it trascends time and is ageless with the positive messages that are conveyed. I feel Twilight is great and am in no way knocking it, but i feel you feel a level of distance from the characters such as Bella and the "all perfect Edward." The characters on Buffy have a warmth about them that you can empathise with. In conjuntion to this I feel Twilight is good in taking a diffeent approach to the vampires with them being Vegetarians, yet is this a debased idea considering Vampires by defintions are animalistic so lack a level of free will.

I love both and for me there is no way to even compare them because they are so different...yes they are both about vampires but both franchises express them in very different ways. I love and adore both

I totally agree dementor both are great and it's not a case of either, or. Both stand alone in their own merit.

There is no contest with me, it's Buffy all the way. The acting is so much better as well as the story line. Vampires are meant to be cruel creatures and with Twilight they are shown as caring innocent creatures that Glitter in the sun (which I find so odd). With Twilight there is also the issue of those annoying contacts, having an abnormal color of eyes all of the time. No wonder why no one hangs around with them, I mean they are unusually pale and have unusual color eyes and attend High School but never age. People in that town must be so naive. Buffy has so much power and is interesting and I find Bella bland and utterly whiny. I actually fell asleep watching New Moon-sorry everyone that is a huge Twilight fan but I just found myself bored waiting for something good to happen. It was just a good thing that I work at a movie theater and the movie was FREE otherwise I wouldn't have spent money on it. I will probably still purchase it on DVD at a flea market, hoping that the next one is better. As for this you don't understand if you don't read the book bs, the vampires glitter in the book and in the movie which I don't like.

Buffy is Better than twilight saga. Even though I like Twilight, Buffy has been around longer and is somewhat better to relate to. Twilight is mainly like a romance and Buffy isn't. Buffy the Vampire Slayer will go down in history for being of the best Tv shows of all time. Twilight could be just one of those trends that go out of style.
