Well... after many, many months of being delayed, the 1:1 scale
ANGEL puppet was finally released by Diamond Select!
From what I can tell, this is the very last Buffy/Angel product to be released
from Diamond Select, as everything else was cancelled. I will be the first to admit
that based on the prototype, I was not going to purchase him. Thanks to
one of my local retailers getting him in this week... that all changed.
Yep, I walked out of the store on Saturday with him. I have to say that if the
long delay in getting him out there was because of fixing issues with the prototype,
then it was well worth the extra 6-8 months. Unfortunately, I have not had time
to get pictures of him, but I really think they improved him greatly for the final product.
Now mind you, he is not perfect... but he is a GREAT improvement over that sad-looking
thing that is pictured on all the pre-order sites. Oh, and yeah... he is HUGE!
He comes shipped in a giant outer cardboard shipper box, which is also wrapped with
a longer cardboard sleeve, for extra protection to the box corners. The outer shipper
box is stamped and numbered (Mine was #326/500)... I was told that they only made
500 of these out of the original 1,000 planned... unless sales dictated that they
make the remaining half of the edition later.
Once you get the shipper box opened, inside is a 40" tall version of the original
puppets window box, all graphics looking the same, but the picture is that of the
prototype on the front and back of the box. The text on the front now reads
"Smile-Time Life Sized Angel Puppet Replica". The back of the box looks the same,
but with various posed pictures of the prototype, along with new text.
The top of the box has the same tab like the smaller ones, but there is a large
gold foil sticker sealing the box, with the ANGEL logo, and the edition number.
Since I did not want to break the seal, I opened him from the bottom of the box.
He comes with a numbered certificate and a metal base holding him up inside the
box. I will get pics online, but things of note about him:
• He has the hole at the back of the neck to use him as a puppet
• He has a superior quality leather jacket, pants, shoes and shirt from the smaller puppets
• His hair is dark brown and black tip-dyed, which really looks great
• The hands and arms have a fully-jointed skeleton system inside,
allowing you to pose his arms and hands any way you wish!
• They replaced the flat material for the skin parts from the prototype with
fleece material similar to the small puppets, but a deeper color
• And lastly, his puppet nose IS removeable, but instead of velcro, it is a working magnet!
As far as the price, his MSRP is $325.00, which to me is a bit steep for him, even though
I think he is great, personally. I snagged him for $250 flat, with no shipping... so I am much more pleased at that price.
If this is indeed the last Buffy/Angel product from DST, they sure went out with a bang!
Just wanted to let everyone here know that he is out now... go get one! ;D
