Does anybody else think that a Selfless Willow could be in this line? It looks like it would be easy to make (dst or custom) a figure of her in that outfit from a Halloween Willow. -John

WOW......And WOW again...I am speechless...I have to admit DST has been surprising me in a positive way with all these upcoming figures (Xander, Cordy, Giles, Faith) and now we get KENDRA!!!Yeah...even though I think the likeness is just not the best, i am still happy, and Willow from Halloween! It's just awsome! I can't wait to see rest of da line, and wonder if they are going to add another character (which I wouldn't mind @ all!):3 willows, 2 Kendras, and and maybe one Kennedy or one villain!well, we'll see @ SDCC!

I know is a really stupid question - but when does SDCC start? I'm know I must have seen it a million times but I can not seem to find the dates for it anywhere (which probably means it's written in 12 ft letters outside my apartment).

No, they are not perfect, but show me one Buffy figure that has ever been made that is. I think Kendra looks more like Kendra than the deluxe Faith looked like Faith. Compare any figure ever made side by side with a screenshot and you will find that none of them are perfect, but what is in this world? They are close enough. If my 4 year old nephew can look at the new Cordy figure for the first time and immediately yell out, "Cordilla, Cordilla", I KNOW she looks like Cordelia. I think SOME people are way too critical of these new DST figs, constantly comparing them to MAC. You are comparing several different products, made by several different partnerships, over several different years. Even scale varies from company to company. All of the figures that have been made are really products of four different partnerships/companies. The first 4 series and Angel series one were all MAC. Mac/DSt were responsible for Willow, Anya, Tara, and season2 Darlas. Mac/DST/GentleGiant gave us: Wesley, Lorne, and the Schoolgirl Darlas. DST/GentleGiant are responsible for Spike, and everything starting with Angel/Fred. If it bothers people so much to compare the new Buffy figures to the old MAC figures, the answer is simple: Stop comparing them. You are comparing figures made by different companies, at different times, with different designers, and made in different factories. How can anyone expect them to match exactly? DST has done a fantastic job with not only bringing this line back to life, but also keeping it going in spite of overwhelming odds. In case anybody doesn't know, the action figure industry is in trouble right now. The Buffy License is not the "Lost" license. If you want to be super critical, please go to the Mcfarlane Lost forum and let em have it. They are making MILLIONS of them and they will be available at just about every major retailer in the world. They deserve the critisim, they are top dollar. Buffy has almost no retail support whatsoever. We have Time & Space Toys, and AFX. If BillsBricks doesn't make a profit on ICM Xander, they may bail out too.The Buffy line is slowly fading and needs all the verbal support it can get. They only make around 3000 (give or take 500) of each exclusive. Even the regular runs are only about 5000-10,000. DST is not making a killing off of these action figures, they are just turning enough profit to keep going. The only reason they are turning any profit at all on them is because they have figured out a way to re-use existing parts to create characters that aren't popular enough to justify costs, and at the same time, keep them at the price point that they are at. Everything has went up for DSt, materials, costs, labor, yet DST has still kept the figs at the same price point. Sacrifices must be made sometimes to ensure that the line goes further, example: Not giving Buffy a leg swivel. yes, it would have been nice, but it is no reason to constantly put down DSt's work.Buffy Magazine finally sponsors a figure (Red dress Glory) and all some people do it bitch about it being a Buffy Mag exclusive. Make your point and move on and please try to remember that this line needs all the support that it can get right now. If you don't care about supporting the line, then I ask, why are you here on the BtvsFIGS forum? If you want the line to die before we get the final few main characters then please go right ahead and continue your bashing. I'm sure it will be over even that much sooner. Just saying.

You made your point and I have to agree. The main question is: Is it more important to get figures with a close likeness, or no figures @ all? I want figures, so even if I bitch sometimes about some stuff, i am still really happy to get'em. So keep up the good work DST, and thanks again for doing what you've been doing so far, spoiling us! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think whats throwing me off the likeness is Kendras expression. She never really showed any expression in her face.

Now that I thought I think I dont want a red hair chosen willow in deluxe. All the chosen figs are in regular format so I'd like to have her in reg format too but I dont see any chance. May be a chosen box set when they're gonna end the line... Definitely a Tough Love Willow, one of my fave episodes. I cant think of anything else right now but as most stated Orpheus would be a good choice. Halloween Will is a weird choice but the likeness is there and I'm not complaining. There's never enough willow figures... ;D I like Kendra by the way and her mouth doesnt disturb me much at all. Her likeness is there too.

The likeness on Willow is pretty good. Kendra is a bit iffy, she's just a new head plopped onto a repainted Graduation Day Buffy! And the likeness is just not there. Now lets see if they look even close to the protos when they are released. Lately I've noticed a decline in quality in prototypes to final releases. I don't like that.

I'm so excited about these figures. I'd been so hoping for a Kendra and the Willow is so charming that I can't wait to have her too!

Checked out the relevant episodes last night. Now appears pretty clear that the exposed torso sculpt used on Halloween Willow was sculpted for a "What's my line" Kendra action figure (seeing as in that episode she is wearing a top with her torso exposed and regular pink/red pants etc). It then seems they went looking for a Willow outfit in which she wore something similar to make a variant and from fuzzy memory Halloween would be the only one.
I can understand their reasoning in wanting to re-use newly sculpted parts, but I think it should still be weighed against what are the most appropriate selections for a "deluxe" line.
Also, Halloween Willow's boots aren't quite as high as season 1 Buffy's boots which is a shame, but would probably do if they wanted to make a season 1 mini-skirt/dress and boots Buffy.
As for Kendra. I don't mind the likeness. With respect to the "Becoming" figure, it appears pretty consistent with the character's appearance (in "Becoming" Kendra wore "regular" earrings not large hoops), though the pants are more of a dark green/khaki than black as they appear to be in the figure (a similar problem to GD Faith who wore dark blue jeans not black).
If a "What's my line" figure of Kendra is made (which appears likely seeing as they have the new torso sculpt) then it would require a new hair sculpt (though "Buffy" shirt Kendra has the same ponytail as Becoming Kendra) and that's about it. She was wearing large hoop earrings in this episode, as well as some chunky necklaces and bracelets which I guess DST would paint on?
Not sure which I will get. I'll probably grab the "What's my line" variant over the "Becoming" Kendra because its a little more visually "appealing" and "distinctive" as opposed to the all in black with dark green shirt like Becoming Kendra.
Still, cannot wait to find out the Willow variants. I wonder if all of the variants will be seasons 1-3 seeing as the later seasons were captured with the "regular" line. I hope not, but as it stands the Halloween Willow and Kendra do fit in well with the Library playset (which may be something DST are keeping in mind).
Cheers, Haeph.

I think a Selfless Willow, would be a possible variant, since she was wearing a skirt and boots and had a ponytail in that episode.

Hey Forbidden planet have the 2 figures up for pre-order already but thet want £25.00 each, there off their face on smack! I think that the price of those figures are ridiculous. They actually shouldn't even have them up for preorder yet as they weren't officially announced by Diamond themselves. Also the release date is rather odd, why do they have release dates that are so unrealistic. The release date of these figures is Saturday 14 October 2006. They aren't even due for release until sometime next year, probably summer just as the others. Although I am really hoping for 2 Deluxe Lines next year with figures of Cordelia, Anya, Xander & more Buffy, one can only hope. They did say that this line was pretty successful. I wonder if they will announce them on Wednesday or wait until this weekend. Whenever they announce them I can't wait as well as to see pictures of them as well.

I'm betting on Tough Love, and maybe something simple like an S4 outfit in a long skirt (re-use Tough Love dress) or Chosen.

Did any of the articles say when these are supposed to actually be available? So far the Deluxe waves have both hit in the summer. But having to wait a YEAR for the new Willows will be almost unbearable! Given what DST has said about the "Moore Style" figure line fading or almost having run its course or however they put it, it seemed that they had more interest in continuing to make figures with an emphasis/focus on Deluxe-style figures and then maybe the "regular" figures would be the rarer/fewer figures line. Also, I recall DST stating that the Deluxe figures were more "them" and that they had pretty much just continued the line as it is to be as compatible as possible with the Moore originals (which I am grateful for - and I am glad the Deluxes are for all intents and purposes the same scale as well).
Personally, I dont mind if they start making more Deluxe figures. I like them a lot (even though originally I thought I would hate them - I ended up LOVING them and actually they quickly became my favorite figures in the line!) and find them actually FUN and I swear I played with Grad Day Buffy (and the rest as well - but she was more the figure that most representative of Buffy thru the series). I totally didn't mind the body even though I know many people disliked it strongly. Certainly the "regular" style figures look more visually appealing (tho even that's kind of becoming a thing of the past as the regular ones get more generic and detail-lite legs, etc while the Deluxes appear to be getting much better at "hiding" or concealing the ultra poseable joints in the sculpt.
In any case, I would be so incredibly psyched if Willow and Kendra were going to be available say this Fall instead of next summer! I'll freak out if I have to wait that long for my beloved Willow!!! :-) :-) :-)

I think we would have to wait at least until after Giles and Faith...which are the end of this year. So maybe early next year? But Summer is probably a better bet.
Seeing these right before wave 2 comes out is evil. Now I'll just be wishing that Willow and Kendra were released instead of Spike and Angel who are (in my opinion) boring compared to Willow and Kendra.

The way I understand it, DST has a "couple more" main characters they want to put out in the regular line and then they plan on spending more time on the deluxe line. I'm pretty sure that it will be next summer or close to it before we see Willow & Kendra released, but we may get more than one wave of deluxe next year as well as 1-3 lines of regular figures. I guess it really depends on how well these upcoming Xander/Cordy/ Giles/Faith figures do. If they do not do well, we may not be seeing anymore regular figures after that. As far as them saying the deluxe line was successful, I don't think they said that. They said that "the response to the deluxe line was overwhelming", meaning that the the buzz or word of mouth was good. I do know that the DST online store only sold out of 3 of the deluxe figures not too long ago, so they were not the big sellout everyone was hoping for. They are still available at many places and they have been out for a year. All we can do is try and stay positive and try to pump up the line whenever we can. We should all be doing our parts to ensure that the line continues, whatever that may be.

Deluxe figures are still near you? All the comic shops, Towers, and Suncoasts near me have been long sold out

My only local comic shop never got them. Suncoast went out of business, and Tower had to sell them for $.49 to get rid of them. They are still available at many places online including: Wizarduniverse.com, Time&Space,Tower.com, BCC, BillsBricks, Amazon.com, and I'm sure if I searched I could find more.
