Buffy's back in action, thanks to a kiss of true love, but Willow's another story entirely-their capture of Amy the witch opened up a magical trap door, and now the Wiccan is in the belly of the beast. To make matters worse, she's at the mercy of someone truly bent on revenge, and he's been waiting for this for a long time. The conclusion to Season Eight's first arc.Pub. Date: Jun 06, 2007
So what do we all think of issue 4? Overall I felt the issue was rushed and the plot could've been developed more over a couple issues. I'm satisfied with the way the first episode of season 8 went down though. The twilight thing seems interesting and could spawn some cool storylines. What do you think about the cinnamon lipgloss? Clue or a red herring?

I thought this was one of the best issues so far.
I know it was for the best that Warren and Amy got away, but I do wish theyde had an ass kicking first!
Im glad there will be more stuff about the government and the slayers as "terrorists", I hope that plays quite a big part in upcoming sotries.

I picked up a copy yesterday afternoon and read it last night before I went to bed. I agree with Jedi Doug that the issue seemed a bit rushed. Maybe I was tired or something, but this issue also seemed a bit rough around the edges. There were a couple times where I didn't know what the hell the character was talking about. For example, part of Warren's speech that ended with "Are you bored NOW?" made no sense to me. Also, after watching Warren apparently stab Willow in the eye (there was blood) and then reading that Warren was lobotomizing her, I expected Buffy to find Willow in a horribly disfigured state. However, Willow didn't have a single scratch on her. I'm glad that Willow is OK, but um, WHAT? (picture Xander emerging from the bookstacks in "Welcome to the Hellmouth"). I understand that those spirits were helping Willow, but it seems odd that she got out of the situation unscathed.

I think she was scathed, but when Buffy broke the restraints off her she was able to heal herself.

Hmm...that was some ridiculously fast healing then. I guess that makes sense though.

I agree that it felt like there was too much edited out - that it jumped too quickly - and I too ended up feeling lost after reading some of the dialogue. Willow's instantaneous healing, if that's what it was, could've been better explained.

I caught the "bored now" reference, but Warren said some other stuff before that that didn't make sense to me.

It did feel rushed but I'm overall happy with the issue. That ending page...wooo...some good stuff. That's a powerful ending point. That look...creepy and so telling.
I think the lipgloss thing was too obvious. It was cinnamon buns she tasted, so maybe the fact that the lipgloss was cinnamon flavored helped jog her memory a little...doesn't mean that it's that girl.
Heck, part of me still thinks it's Willow! A major part of me keeps hoping it's Willow! LOL. The way she's trapped in that state with the spirits, yet she's still able to appear through Buffy?? That they're a part of each other?? Hmm... Don't forget that the kiss was magick-based, and Willow's this all-powerful being now, so why not? She could've transferred some of herself into Buffy through their lips!! Even if that's not the case, I can still dream...and it makes logical sense. It just plays into the B/W undertones that's been happening since the beginning!

This Issue was really good! Warren's speech to Willow was a little confusing but I think I know what he meant. And it looked really painful what they were doing to her, especially when those metal things were keeping her eyes open. Torture or what? Then Willow went inside her own mind and met those spirits. I think they were supposed to represent her. Like the one with equations all over her were representing Willow's intelligence? Then it was shown that a part of Willow is in Buffy. And Willow was speaking into Buffy's mind. One of the images also looks like Willow is holding what looks like some sort of magical walkie-talkie. I liked it when Buffy and Willow joined to make a super slayer/witch! So cool! And showing Amy her mother as her worst nightmare was brilliant! It was Buffy but looked to Amy like Catherine. I got a bit confused when there wasn't a scratch on her. Maybe those spirit things inside her mind healed her or maybe she was slowly healing herself the whole time, like in "Same Time, Same Place" when she was "drawing power from the Earth" to heal herself. A slow process, yes but it gets the job done. This would also explain why she doesn't have "a bunch of healing left". There could be some sort of ritual you have to perform every now and then to be able to heal. Cinnamon lipgloss! So it may of been Satsu who kissed Buffy and who is in love with her. Can't wait to find out. I'm also glad we got to see the Scythe again. I felt sorry for Buffy when Dawn said she thought of Willow as a mum too. I thought Amy died when the grenade exploded, but I guess she teleported. Although, Willow couldn't teleport when she was evil. Remember, Anya said that "a witch at her level" couldn't teleport. So if she was so powerful, how comes Amy can teleport now? Did Amy get more powerful than Dark Willow when she was stuck down in the hellmouth. Maybe. Although, Willow is now more powerful than she ever was. General Voll explained what was happening which was good to see. Although, does Ethan look dead to anyone else? The ending was good to, very Joss. Reminds me of "Checkpoint". I love this issue like all the others and I am LOVING this comic series and it's gonna be hell waiting 2 months for Issue #5! I cannot wait!

Can someone who has read the comic explain to me how Warren is still "alive"? I'd like to think he is a zombie as Willow did torture, flay and incinerate him. Also, The First was able to take his form so he must of died right? Also, did Warren cut into Willow's eye to lobotomize her? I'm not sure how this process works but if he did cut into her eye and she healed herself then why hasn't she healed Xander's eye yet? I know she's been away for a year but by the looks of it she could heal it within seconds. Or maybe that was just to do with self healing. She might not have been powerful enough in Sunnydale, but she is now by the looks of things. Thanks for any help provided.

If we assume what Warren tells Willow is true (if indeed it really is Warren) then what I can glean from that is that Amy was nearby when Willow tortured him, and that she was able to do some sort of switch after Willow skinned him. So that when Willow thought she was incinerating Warren it was someone else. I believe Warren says that Amy had only four seconds to do a spell after Willow skinned him, and she was able to encase him in some sort of magic protection to keep him alive.
I don't know - it doesn't answer the question about how the First was able to appear as Warren, if in fact he never was killed. It'll be interesting to see how they answer this.
I, too, was disappointed when it wasn't explained how Willow could seemingly bounce right back from being cut into with a scalpel in her eye and be unscathed.
The main concept for the season - the US government against the army of slayers - is very interesting. Who is the Big Bad? It depends on your perspective. I wonder if the season will end with the slayer line being obliterated or returning to the one slayer per generation thing. I'm intruigued.

I guess Willow has A LOT more power now than she did in Sunnydale. Although, maybe later on in the comic she will heal Xander's eye (although I doubt it very much). It could be that Willow doesn't like to heal eyes because the eyes are very delicate and could cause Xander's other eye to become damaged? She may of known she could self-heal her eye but she isn't keen or isn't strong enough to heal other people's eyes. Just a thought. I'd like to think that Warren did die, and he was resurrected as a zombie, although a smarter one like Darryl Epps. Although, if you're right and Amy did make Warren disappear with magic and put something else in its place (most likely an illusion) then I'd like to think that the term "saved his life" was Amy raising him as a zombie, because its gonna frustrate me because The First can take his form.

I can see that...though part of me thinks he's very dead. He looks like a zombie, so we'll go with that for now...nasty, flayed skin and all...
I loved that XXX reference, so Buffy knew when she saw cell 30 that it was Ethan, and the foreshadowing image of Ethan trapped between the three X's in Buffy's dreamscape?? Pure Joss...

We all know that Willow can heal fast...In Villains she heals Buffy from her gun shot wound very quickly. In season 7 she was very timid to use her magic so she was using a less magicy more Gia way of healing to re-grow her skin. Now it seems that Willow has a lot more control of her magic and is probably a lot more powerful than she was during the show.
As to why she didn't heal Xander's eye...I can only assume that it was because she was still timid with her magic and would have to tap into dark magic in order to do it. But why she doesn't do it now...I don't know, it might have to do with the wound being healed already.

Seeing as Xander's eye has already healed itself she may not be able to. Whereas her eye had just been hurt, so she could heal it quickly. I'm assuming that eyesight is very delicate and tricky to mess with. And I like the theory about Willow being timid with her magic too.

This theory could explain it. Although, Warren didn't actually die. Amy's magic keeps him alive. He calls it his human life because he feels like he isn't human anymore, when really he is still human, just living off of magics. I think I'm still gonna stick with the zombie thing until we get an official explanation from Joss. Does anyone have any way of contacting him to ask questions like these?
