So yeah, I went down to a comic store today to pick up issue #1. They had several copies, plus the variant cover with Buffy fighting some green monster. But they were all priced at $10 each! WTF! They came out what, three weeks ago? He said they were a hot seller. Any ideas on where I can get the comic(s) for cheaper than that? No way am I going back to the comic store next week when issue #2 is supposed to be out (that's what he says, anyways). Screw that. I don't care about covers and variants and first printing and all that crap, I just want the damn comic! I miss the old days when you could just subscribe to a comic title and get them in the mail...

I miss the old days when you could just subscribe to a comic title and get them in the mail... You can, actually, at ( www.scifigenre.com/subs ). I was considering it myself, but it is kind of fun trolling to the comic shop and buying it, but that $10 price tag is ludicrous! I mean, I love Buffy, but not at $10 a pop for that many issues. But, back on topic, I bought #1 and it feels good to have Buffy back, but it isn't the same... I love that Joss wrote it and I can hear the characters saying those lines, but I miss the live-action of the show. For what it is, though, I could not be happier! Although, as some of you are saying, the issue was quite short to me. It may have been that I was just too excited so I read it fast? Either way, I will for sure read it again at a slower pace. It's very exciting, but I hope I can stick with it over the years... this is going to be a long process!!

Will this be released as like one big graphic novel some day? I may buy it then (although it sounds a little lame to be honest)

Will this be released as like one big graphic novel some day? I may buy it then (although it sounds a little lame to be honest) I would prefer it this way because i hate comics and will loose these very quickly. I wished they done season 8 in the way that "Creatures Of The Habit" (I think it was called?) was done. Those drawings were amazing and the novel like format....i can only dream now. Issue 2 isn't long.

Well, I've had issue one since it was realeased. Then, I finally received my alternate GJ cover in the mail on Thursday from tfaw.com. Then on Friday, my 2 copies of Dynamic Forces copies signed by JG came in and I picked up a copy of the second printing. I really went overboard with this first issue, but Buffy's finally back and I think Jo Chen's work is amazing.
As for some of the comments by others here, I personally love the comic format. Sure the first issue was short, but it also has to appeal to some possible newbies (even though I think 98% of the readers will be longtime fans). I also think that while stretching the "season" over many, many comics can be seen as a money-making machine (which I don't think is the case since Joss is a comic-lover), there wouldn't be any suspense without the time separation between issues. I really look forward to getting an issue and then having to wait to see what happens next. It plays out very similar to the show. Every week I would finish an episode and be excited to see what would happen next. Then if the show went on hiatus for a couple of weeks, the suspense would be even greater. If it were done in novel form, chances are most of us would pick up the book and finish it in a night. The only anticipation would be the time leading up to the novel. Whoopdeedoo. Personally, I think that would be very boring. However, that is just my own opinion (and I am very much a comic book fan in general).
Also, I have to think about the 7 seasons of the show. Most of the seasons had their starts that were relatively simple and didn't have much to do with the entire season arc. Granted comics are a different format, but everyone has been away from the Buffyverse for a long time and I think that Joss is very right in easing us all back into characters' lives. There are a lot of things from the show that need to be addressed and if everything was jammed into the first "episode" then there wouldn't be a season. We all need to be re-introduced to the Buffyverse and any of the changes that may have occurred between Sunnydale's demise and the present day.
While I really love the comic overall and enjoy the references to some parts of the show, as with everyone else, I have my own quirks/questions/comments with the story (though they are pretty minor and some of which will probably be solved in upcoming issues). My issues lie mostly in how some of the charaters are portrayed and their drawn mannerisms with Buffy in particular. Sometimes, Buffy just isn't very Buffy-esque. WARNING: I tend to look at minute details.
PROS:
1. Buffy as ma'am.
2. Giant Dawn and her predicament; her banter with Buffy about the thricewise. Why will she only talk to Willow about her predicament? Is she a lesbian? She did always closely identify with Willow and Tara and she is refusing to speak to Buffy about it.
3. Amy and her need for gross quantities of cheese. Who's her boyfriend?
4. Page 14: blowing a bubble with gum.
5. buffy and Xander's review of the symbol was very nostalgic. Their interaction was very genuine to the show.
CONS:
1. Could we maybe pick a color for Buffy's eyes? Please?!
2. Where is the scythe? Not so much a fan of the high-techiness as I am with the old-fashioned manual beheading of a monster, though the cross-impaling of the monster was cool. I, like Quentin Tarantino, much prefer a woman with a sword over a woman with a gun.
3. Did Xander ever use "five-by-five" before?
4. I'm interested in how Joss is addressing the digestion of Sunnydale, but please god, pleeease don't let this get too initiative-like!!! That season was just so very... pleh.
5. On page 15, top right panel, why is grabbing her chin? Did she ever do tha ton the show? She's more of a hand-on-the-hip kind of gal. While GJ can very much draw, he needs to sit his butt back down in front of the TV and review how Buffy postures herself.
High Hopes:
1. Buffy and Xander end up together. Not Angel or Spike.
2. Dawn is not oversized for too long.
3. Amy really gets her butt whooped by anyone.
4. By the end of the comic run, we get a connection into the Fray storyline.
On a final note after this long rambling, I think we should try to show our support for the comic by trying to write to Scott Allie at Darkhorse for the "Slay the Critics" column at the end of each issue.

Fantastic comments everyone!
I can't help but feel like there must be some clue as to Amy's boyfriend that we're missing... I'd be surprised if it was a new character. Maybe it's the First in some human form like Warren maybe?
For everyone who commented on the shortness, the first four issue arc is intended to serve as the season opener 'episode.' Looking at it that way, it's the first 15 minutes to half an hour of the show.
The second printing came out this week and looks different in that it doesn't have the purple-y sidebar with the creators' names on the left side. No one should be charging above cover price for that unless they're jerks.
The Initiative-like feel of the new setting and the fact that the military finds the Slayers threatening makes me wonder how the actual Initiative will figure into this, if at all... They were a pretty small operation by season 5, but I imagine they'll be a story point sometime...

It wasn't bad. Pretty much the top compared to the couple of other Buffy comics I've read. Interesting use of characters without overloading it. And I liked the jump forward that's been used in other properties as well.
That said, there were some bad points. Mainly the complete lack of feeling for the beginning "action scene." I'm really not going to be very enthusiastic about a fight scene where the good guys only win because they're not quite as dumb as the bad guys. All I could think of was, "and that's why you should post guards on the roof. Preferably with night vision goggles and a Stinger." The quick insertion wasn't bad, but honestly, if the good guys are now using high tech devices and vehicles, then why aren't the bad guys? At that point, it loses any tension.
It's essentially the pilot so I'll give it some leeway. I just hope that in addition to the attention they're putting on the character interaction and the setting up of the scene, that they concentrate on making things realistic. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

I got Issue 1 today at my local comic shop (along with Issue 2 as well) and I love it! LOVE IT! I'm SO glad that Buffy's back! ;D From the first page with Buffy, Leah and the other two slayers jumping from the helicopter with Buffy's thought "Everybody calls me "Ma'am" these days", it hit me that Buffy's here again and it felt really good! I liked the fight scene with those big green demons and the symbol on the mans chest. And who was that guy dangling above the castle? Angel or Spike maybe? I can't wait to find out! Xander was watching Buffy and the others on their mission which I thought was cool as he was often referred to as the guy who sees everything. And Buffy and Xander's conversation was so good to see with Buffy eating a sandwich and drinking coffee. It was excellent! Giant Dawn is sooooooooo cool! And the layout in the comic of Buffy and Dawn's conversation is marvelous! I love the way its laid out. And I think that either she was in the castle in that room when she became a giant or some witch or sorcerer teleported her there. It explains how she got into the castle, being a giant and all. Also, I think that the reason Dawn wants to talk to Willow is because Willow has always been there for Dawn whenever she needed to talk. From the first time they speak in "Real Me" we can see that they're close. Also, Willow may be the only one who can change her back to regular size. But I do have one question. What is a thricewise and great-muppety Odin all about? The government storyline is cool, with them looking into how Sunnydale was destroyed and thinking that Buffy and Co. are terrorists. And Amy at the end was great! It was good to see her again. She obviously fell into the crater along with the rest of Sunnydale, probably survived the fall with some sort of magic. Although, when they showed the picture of the crater, it didn't show the ocean. Because if Sunnydale had a beach then either the ocean wasn't destroyed or it was and it must of caused some BIG problems. Anyone have any theories on this? And the timing must be at least Fall 2005 or later if Dawn is in college right? Unless she did automatically graduate when Sunnydale was destroyed but do they even do that??? Overall, I think this is fantastic! I'm off to read Issue 2 now!

Finally got my issue #1 (with my luck, BCC's package with lots of orders and #1 issue went missing, while the second issue arrived with mo problems ). Thank God for TFAW.com. Anyhow, I have a bit of mixed feelings; on one hand, it takes a while till I get the same feeling from the characters as I has for the first 7 seasons. Plus, the fights aren't impressive anymore. But on the other hand, it's light, and funny and just want I wanted since May 20th 2003 - season 7 sequel. I liked the part about Dawn...very amusing. Good to see Buffy and Xander working together as they used to. And very intriguing to see who are these army men (The Initiative??), and who the hell is Amy's boyfriend?
