Since the destruction of the Hellmouth, the Slayers--newly legion--have gotten organized and are kicking some serious undead butt. But not everything's fun and firearms, as an old enemy reappears and Dawn experiences some serious growing pains.Pub. Date: Mar 14, 2007
The new comic series certainly deserves its own discussion thread for each issue! The only rule of this topic is NO SPOILERS! No talk of info from solicitation info for upcoming issues (synopses), upcoming covers, hints or revelations from interviews. Some people want to just experience the story as it happens. So if it doesn't happen between the pages of issue #1, don't talk about it! Please feel free to post any opinions or thoughts you've already posted in the other thread here. I'd like to get a nice discussion going here (I think a 23+ page thread is intimidating)!

I loved it. I could hear the character's voices in my head as I was reading the joss-words. The art was beautiful and I am really glad they aren't just trying to trace photo stills of the actors. It's kind of weird to hear the "thoughts" of Buffy at first but I got used to it by the end. her internal conversation about missing her home and her mom put a lump in my throat. giant dawn is genius. the ending was great and creepy. i really want to see a willow vs. amy smackdown.

I was surprised that no one had been posting about the comic yet. Especially since having it is so huge, with it being a continuation of our favorite series and all OMG, Amy, YIPPEE ;D I too love Giant Dawn, but it makes me feel bad after thinking about the Talk Xander and Dawn had about being normal. But she is uber-cool. Oh, I also wanted to ask if anyone knows the time when the comic starts to take place. The only reason I ask is because Dawn was mentioned as being in college already. But I thought that she had started as a freshmen at sunnydale high....so would that mean the comic takes place 4 years later? Or did Dawn just immediately graduate when the town was demolished?

The story takes place "at least a year and a half" after the events of "Chosen" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffy_season_8 = SPOILERS! , but it has some info on #1 i loved the comic .... i just wish that Cordelia would be in it well , you never know ...

Anyone pick up something a bit odd about Xander and the term Watcher? Buffy refers to having her Watcher... then we see Xander right after. It certainly brought up a lot of memories for me of the season 7 theme of Xander "seeing" everything, which was set up earlier and carried through the tragic loss of his eye. Has his "seeing" somehow translated into being Buffy's Watcher? He denies it, but it certainly seems like he's her advisor for field missions. Clearly he's watching out for her as much as ever.
The sweater, pants and boots all really denote a military role for Xander. Which now that I think about it, is a really interesting turn for the character whose army experience in "Halloween" became such an important element to his character. It seems like now he's learned a lot of the military experience he had previously lucked into from Ethan's spell.

My random thoughts...
Where'd all the money come from? The Slayers have tons of high-tech stuff that must have cost a fortune. I am guessing this will be explained later.
I think the plot involving Amy has a lot of potential. I bet that she is going to fight Willow at some point.
I hope the original Scoobies aren't spread out across the globe the entire season. I want to see them working together, in close physical proximity.

Wow I love it. I just wished they made it into the t.v show, I always thought good to end it now than let it get boring, I mean what other storylines could they come up with, im hooked, did no one tell amy what was going on? After that last hex who could blame them. I loved amys character and enjoyed each episode she was in especially Bewitched bothered and bewildered. it's just a shame Joss decided to give her character this big plot role now, we might of got a cool action figure of her. I can't wait to see whats shes going to do next and who and what is her boyfriend? I just hope willow gets back in time from wherever to help stop amy, last time she was too afraid to use magic but nows a different story.
i think the watchers council was very rich and had a great deal of influence remember giles telling bufy in S3 when he got fired and now the wealth is passed to the last remaining watchers. As far as being Hi-tec look what Fred had in her lab at Wolfram and heart, money buys fancy things.
does anyone know 1. are these the army dudes that ran the iniative? 2. Joss said the only pointless thing in 'Restless' was the chesseman, or was this a hint that Amy was going to cause trouble in the futher.
God I love this comic, it's got me thinking about all those great episodes, i'm becomming obsessed again. Woo hoo

Got it last week and have read it about 10 times. I love it. It just seemed so short, maybe the first 15 minutes of an episode, but wow, what a start. Can't wait to see where all the resources are coming from, what's up with the rest of the gang, who's hovering above the castle, and who's Amy's boyfriend that she has kept alive with magic. I wonder what else may be lurking beneath SunnyCrater. I read the comic to my small nephew last night and all he wanted to know was how did Dawn fit inside the castle. I'm really looking forward to see what's coming up in future episodes. I want to see Clem again!

I thought it was great but too short.
I think the watchers council definitely had money and Kennedy was a rich bitch, maybe she is helping out? I really cant wait to read more...so many questions. I need to see Willow and Kennedy...hopefully they are in issue 2. And maybe now Tara can come back in some way since they dont have to rely on Amber Benson.
Im really looking forward to the whole gang getting back together...hopefully it doesnt take long.

Hey guys, does anybody here watch Attack of the Show on G4? If you do, did you happen to notice if Blair Butler did her segment on comic books last week and if she said anything about the Buffy comic?

Thanks, insanity! It seems like I always miss the show every time they have something on that really interests me. My old, lame computer will not allow me to watch the video. Would you mind just giving me a quick description of what she said. Was she impressed, did she recommend it? Thanks again.

Well, I can transcribe everthing for you Buffy the Vampire Slayer is back in Comic book form. Is the long anticipated season 8 worth the wait? Is Sunnydale built on a Hellmouth? Of Course it is! Buffy the Vampire Slayer picks up right where the seventh season of the TV show left off. Written by Buffy creator Joss Whedon, This issue finds Buffy leading an underground army of slayers against the forces of evil, with all the snarky dialogue and skull crushing action of the show intact. For the love of great muppety-odin go out and buy this book. I think its safe to say she loved it, plus shes a huge Joss fan. I love the muppety-odin joke she made from the comic.

Hey DanMan, thank you for starting this thread and for making the NO SPOILERS rule. I really, really don't want to be spoiled for future issues.
I couldn't resist looking at the first few pages of Issue 1 that were on the internet, so I knew the excellent joke about Buffy and The Immortal. I also accidentally heard about giant Dawn and Amy's return. I think this information marred my enjoyment of Issue 1. I'm really hoping to remain unspoiled for the rest of the run.
I like the art work. I also like how the text and graphics worked so that you had to pay attention to get all the jokes. I particularly loved the layout of the Giant Dawn spread. It worked so well, having little Buffy climb the stairs around her.
Very Joss! There were great witty moments and I was touched by Buffy's thoughts. I'm also dying to know who Amy's boyfriend is. Maybe he's some monster we've met before.
I did find it frustratingly short... but I believe all the issues will add up to a very satisfying series. I really hope they come out in a timely fashion once a month. I don't think I can be patient beyond that! I want it all now! Waaah!

I enjoyed the issue and have read it a few times. I wish the comics were weekly instead of monthly, but I'm patient and can wait to see how the action unfolds.
I keep thinking that, if this were the real world, someone like Xander would've been fitted with a prosthetic eye by now, instead of still wearing an eye patch.

Well an eyepatch is cooler looking. Especially in a comic book I did think it was a little short too, but I put that down to me already knowing what was going to happen in it. I figure next issue, since as far as I recall I didn't read any spoliers about it, I'll probably spend a little longer reading it. Taking everything in one step/cell at a time. Plus it's gonna be cool to read the four issue arc all in one go! Not to mention, the entire line.

I'm quite pleased. I like the artwork a lot actually. Out of all the Buffy comics, it rates somewhere below the best, but better than many of them, especially the Dark Horse Angel ones. A lot of them were kind of cartoonishly stylized, but the Season 8 look is a little more realistically rendered, which I like better. Stuff like "A Stake to the Heart" series was my favorite.
I was always thinking in the back of my mind - "what was life like after Sunnydale, with all those slayers running around?" Its exciting we get to see! I'm so happy we have many more issues to look forward too.
