It was just another average Thursday morning at Bayside High. Nothing too out of the ordinary or special...it was farther away in the week from Monday, which was great, but it was just one day before Friday, which felt to Zack almost like waving a piece of meat in front of an angry, hungry dog on the other side of a fence. It wasn't exactly like Zack hated school at all; in fact, as his motto went, "I like school. It's just too bad classes get in the way." With Slater sitting at the desk in front of him one row to the right and Screech directly to his left, Zack tapped his pencil against the desk and glanced up at the clock. Where were the girls at? In about one minute, the bell would ring, and that would make all three of them tardy. On second thought...if they wound up tardy one more time, that might land Kelly in detention, which was exactly where he knew he could make a move.
As if to foil his little plan, though, the three of them walked into math class in their gym uniforms, seemingly distressed over something. Kelly sighed, slinking down into the seat in front of Zack. Jessie sat in front of her, and finally, Lisa almost took the seat beside Kelly...until she happened to glance back and see Screech coloring some more "Screech Loves Lisa" hearts in red on his folder. She shuddered to herself, moving up one seat. That wasn't anything out of the ordinary, but judging from Kelly and Jessie's depressing demeanors, something was wrong. "Hey guys...what's up?" Zack asked, leaning forward. Any excuse to get closer to Kelly was just fine by him.
Kelly turned around in her seat, giving Zack a weak smile. "Well, Bayside's girls track team has a shot at making the state finals this year..." She trailed off, apparently letting whatever this was get the best of her.
"Yeah?" Zack laughed a bit, raising his eyebrows. "And isn't that supposed to be a good thing?"
This time, it was Jessie's term to chime in. "Yeah, it WOULD be, if the district wasn't being run by a bunch of male chauvenists! Apparently, the story is that we won't be able to afford to go unless we raise $1,000 for the team by next month, since football and wrestling are always the ones who wind up with the most funding in the school district."
Slater snickered. "Well, who would blame them? Afterall, I guarantee you that there must be at least twice as many people showing up to watch some REAL athletes playing out in the field, instead of just watching some girls prance around in skimpy shorts." *Insert the audience's scandalized "OoOoOoOoOooooh!" that they always do*
Jessie glared. "How about I show you just where to shove that football helmet, pig?" *Audience cracks up as if this is the funniest punchline ever delivered, ever*
Kelly shot them both a look of hurt. "Guys, can you two just stop fighting for five minutes? This is serious! We really have a shot at winning this year, and all you two can do is argue."
Zack, however, was left sitting back in his seat with a grin. "Kelly, don't you worry...I think I've got the PERFECT idea to raise us enough money for the trip, and then some..."
