If they mostly used the special features that were used for the two-disc set in Australia, then this cost Universal nothing but the plastic, and all the browncoats can rally around it as they did the first dvd release, and presto Serenity will be a money-earning film! (It had previously been reported that it had made back EVERYTHING it cost, so if it made any more money, it would be turning a profit. This is all it needed. That and for all true-believers to ante up in July! Come on folks! Don't you want to see where the 'verse goes? Or flashbacks to the good ole days of Wash and Book? It'll probably only run a crisp clean $20 bill if you get it when it first comes out. Donate your copy of Serenity to the library or the needy! (I realize there are an inordinate number of exclamation points in this post, but Firefly was my favorite Jossverse, short-lived though it was. I try and lead loud cheers when there's something that might lead to back to the future.)

I just found out about this today but couldn't find any details except that it was coming out in July. Are they going to add in the deleted scenes and make it longer or is it just the exact same movie with a few more special features or commentaries?

So Joss has stated that the success of this dvd really is the best hope of ever seeing a sequel. I've just ordered it from Universal's website on the theory that anytime a manufacturer can charge retail prices for something they are getting almost twice what they get if they sell it to a vendor. I ordered Serenity HD DVD and Serenity Special Edition, and it showed both as "Back-Ordered" though in my checkout basket. Since the SpEd doesn't come out till tomorrow, I am unclear as to what that actually means, but I feel it is worth it to go through them.

I'll end up buying this. But I hope there's more than just the commentary and river tam sessions (more stuff than the australian version i mean).

I picked this up today, the art is simply amazing. The back image of River, Mal, Jayne, Zoe and the Evil dude is simply amazing. That should have been the R1 DVD cover, much better then the crap we got...
The DVD itself isn't bad. You get all the features from the original release plus some new ones, I got it for 20 bucks, but if I had to pay more I wouldn't have picked it up. Though today I did do a bit of spending on Whedon-verse stuff... Serenity, Firefly (series), Serenity Comic, Buffy season 8 #4 and You're Welcome Cordelia figure...
Back on topic. The DVD is worth it for the fans, the cast commentary is GREAT! Though the Book actor only speaks a little bit and you kind of forget he's there.
