Are we going to get more Firefly? Something is a brewin'! On Eonline.com Kristin Veitch (not sure of spelling) said that she will have some news about Firefly. This was written today: "Oh, and speaking of, make sure you check the boards for red-hot Firefly scoop!)" and even before this on the 7th she wrote this: Announcement: Firefly! Posted By: kristin Created in: Forum: Watch with Kristin Posted: Feb 7, 2006 6:22 PM "A friend just saw Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount where they are putting together the new CW unit. Hmmmmm? Will Firefly fly again? " How awesome would it be if that new network did something with the show? Oh man, I'm totally psyched. Everyone keep your fingers crossed. We might be getting some good news soon!!!!

All I have heard is that a private invester is persuing the rights to Firefly from fox. They have said that they have spoken to the cast's agents and their lawyers are in talks with For re: the rights. The investor plans on producing a second season and selling them on a per episode basis either through Itunes or on demand/pay per view cable or a dvd by mail system. He also says that even if he does get a go ahead on the rights, he wont even think of touching it with our Joss' concent and involvement.

I'm pretty sure fox doesn't own the rights to firefly. I think Joss had to buy them back and then he sold them to universal.
I wonder how well the 'serenity' dvd is selling. Perhaps we're getting a sequel (i can hope right?).

i think you are right. It is not fox, it is universal that they have to deal with. Ihav enot read the article in a while. It is on buffy.n if anyone feels ambitious enough to search for it.

An update on this. Apparantly the CW plans on either bringing back the series next fall, making a mini-series for next year or doing a tv movie for next year. How awesome is it that it looks like a real possibility for more Serenity!!

Kristen's update was simply a column in which she referred to her own rumor. Her rumors are not supported by anything, according to posters at Whedonesque - including Joss Whedon.

I checked whedonesque and Joss doesn't say anything about this. He simply said that he is going to see how it goes when it comes to a Serenity sequel. There was no confirmation or denial of a POSSIBILITY of a tv show, miniseries or TV movie. As for the posters saying it isn't true they actually said they don't want to hold their breath for fear of being disappointed but they don't know anymore than we do about this.

Joss posted a message on Whedonesque one day ago in which he said:
Unless he's being dishonest, this would seem to contradict the gossip columnists claim that some "friend" of hers claims to have seen some actors walking around a studio - a claim she did not even try to verify. Others have pointed out that negotiations don't actually involve actors, they involve the actors' agents, so even if this sighting was real, it could have been for promotional reasons (the european release of the Serenity DVD). But really there's no reason to believe that the sighting even occurred, let alone that it means anything about the future of Serenity.
I'd love for a sequel to happen and I expect one will someday happen, in some form.

You are right, it is just conjecture at this point but Joss saying "Serenity sequel! My phone is silent and withdrawn." doesn't confirm or not confirm anything. That doesn't speak at all about possibilities for a tv show, miniseries or tv movie. He's speaking of a sequel to the movie and said his phone is silent. That doesn't tell us anything. It's not a contradiction of anything the gossip columnists are saying.

Here's the last I heard about the rights to Firefly: Fox retains the rights to any "Firefly" property on television. Whedon aquired the rights to "Firefly" as it pertains to movies and other media, along with backers Universal, which released "Serenity", and thus retains some film rights. Fox's condition for relinquishing the rights to Whedon was that it holds TV rights for something like 10 years, meaning its a non-compete situation. However, Fox can rent out its propery, as it did when Sci-Fi, owned by NBC, aired the entire series. And, these rights are made to be bought and sold. So, to make a long story short, anything's possible. There is this tidbit: www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=34383Basically an entrepeneur is trying to aquire the rights to a second season of "Firefly", and is trying to get Whedon on board. The article reiterates Whedon's statements about continued interest in the show. So, who knows, maybe these actors are just in preliminary negotiations, or talking with lawyers about residuals.

Paramount is owned by CBS, but it is CBS who owns half of the CW. Paramount didn't even own most of UPN. Maybe they are developing CW stuff at Paramount, but the programming decisions are all being done by WB execs. Seeing the three of them at Paramount (if true) just doesn't make any sense to me for CW stuff... based on the info that has been publicly released about the network.
