I'd like the join in and also say thank Goddess they didn't make it! While some might have... enjoyed it, no way would I have wanted my favorite character to get raped by Reavers! It's just so horrible... The ONLY part I'd like would be the Mal/Inara goodness at the end.

I think some parts might have worked, but in general, the idea for this episode is just ick. I think they would have ruined Inara's character by doing this, and It would have been impossible for the crew to walk away from it all La-di-Da. I'm glad they didn't film it.

While I have no doubt that Joss could have made this a great story arch, I am glad that they didn't go with it. I do think that it could have taken Inara into some dark and potentially interesting places from a character standpoint...Don't get me wrong, I don't think that rape is interesting... I am just saying that from a character stand point, it might be interesting to see what would happen to Inara emotionally if her vulnerability (which really was her source of power) were taken advantage of or taken out of her control. Even hearing this abandoned story line makes me sad that there is no more Firefly!

I was talking to Tracy (Taloom) about this a few days back and while I agree that it would have been a very dark and disturbing place for the show to go, I have absolute faith the writers would have been able to handle it in a mature and competent fashion, without making it seem tacky of movie-of-the-week, while still being sympathetic to the rape issue.
I'm always a sucker for the darker elements of the Jossverse shows, because they take you to a different side of things, something you don't often see in television. A storyline like this could have been an excellent study into Inara's character, something that was often missed in the 14 short episodes we got, and even the movie.
I also believe that Inara would have come out the other side of things stronger and more powerful. Part of her power has always been her sexuality, she's never been tacky, but always assured. After enduring something like this, and to defeat her attackers may have made her feel less fragile (after she recovered).
I'm not singing the praises of having Inara raped making good TV, but I think this would have been an extremely good storyline.
Plus we woulda finally gotten an explanation on that damn syringe-in-a-box (Tim Minear is so full of shit when he says they're not connected)

That's horrifying. Even the suggestion of rape as it's brought up in a few episodes terrifies me. There is no more sickening moment in the show for me than when Early asks Kaylee if she's ever been raped. If something like that actually happened, it would have upset me and crushed me. Beautiful ending to it though.

I think it would have worked.
I can finally have some rest though. In one of the episode commentaries Minear mentions they had some idea of where to take Inara but siad it wouldnt say cos' Joss might incorporate it into comics, books or films so he didnt wanna ruin it.
Im so sad firefly has gone..

I would have loved this episode!
Well maybe not love, but I would like the darkness in the episode. It would really make Inara more human to me, and give her more of a purpose, since in the series, and movie, she was kind of just... there. It would have been nice to see, and shed some light on the character of Inara. I like the idea of her killing people if they had sex with her, very black widow.
