Alot of people are telling me "Oh Firefly rocks!" "Go see Serenity!" and so on, but... would you have started watching Firefly or have been as pumped about Serenity if Joss Whedon's name wasn't attached to it? If it was just some other guy, would you all be up for it? Would you be DIEING to see it?

I think I would have. The only difference is that I probably wouldn't have heard about it because Joss' name really put it out there. I think I would definatley have seen it as well as Serenity.

I dunno. Im not a sci fi fan so that would have put me off. The trailer was cool but I was just thinking that because I was so excited to be watching the serenity trailer. I think I would have put it on my mental film list to watch but wouldnt have gone to the cinema to see it.

I would have gone and seen it regardless. I have been reading science fiction since I was 5 years old so this was right up my alley.

I know for a fact I wouldn't have watched Firefly. Judging by the cover it wouldn't have been my cup of tea (how wrong I was) but I would have seen Serenity as the trailers for it were good and the film poster looked cool.

With all the acclaim it got, yeah I'd see it eventually. But Joss's name is a seal of guaranteed quality. It's kind of a silly question, because none of it would exist without him!
It seems like you're really asking is: "is it that good, or are you all a bunch of mindless Whedon-worshippers?" And yeah, it's that good regardless of the name recognition.

Hmm, good question. I wanna see Serenity, but ive never had any interest in Firefly, just didnt seem like i'd like it. I dont know what Serenity is about [going to see it soon] but once id seen the trailer at the cinemas last week, that was enough to sell it for me. I suppose Joss writing it does play a big factor in me seeing it, as i love his writing, and his humour I gotta admit, on a sidenote, i do love hearing "from the Creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in that really cool Movie voice

At first I ignored Firefly because I was angry at Joss for making it instead of focusing on Buffy and Angel. After I did watched the DVDs of Firefly (a few months ago) I really got hooked up. So, even if it weren’t Joss’s series, I would’ve probably watched it.
I haven't seen Serenity yet, but as soon as it gets here I'm going to the premiere. ;D

I probably would have given it a try, but I wouldn't have had such a strong motivation to.

I wouldn't. I haven't even seen a single Firefly ep or gone to see Serenity, even though everybody says it's so good. I'm sure once I finally bring myself to do it, I'll be kicking myself for not getting into it sooner.
I usually try to give things a chance, but there are some things I just can not get into. Space shows and movies are one of those things. Just like crime dramas bore me to death, and I wouldn't have watched Bones if David wasn't in it.

I'm not sure the concept could've been pulled off successfully outside of Joss. At least, not in the sense that it was. I think without the Whedon touch, it wouldn't have had legions of followers and would've faded away. But to answer your question, I only even heard about the existence of Firefly about 4 months ago, so no, I wouldn't have seen nor heard of it

Probably not. I wouldn't have gone out of my way to see it on Fox back when it was on if Joss wasn't attached. Of course, the show wouldn't have been as good if Joss wasn't attached, so it's kind of a moot point.

I think I would have seen Serenity regardless because I like Scifi movies alot and the previews are cool but I probably would have never even watched Firefly because, at the time it was on, I had a strict "no new shows" policy. I already had enough and I honestly thought it was gonna be like Star Treck and I hate (HATE) Start Treck. PS: Did I mention that I HATE Star Treck. Sory if I offend any fans of ST but I am but one man and for every one man that hates ST there are 5 Treckies So you would all win in the end!

To be honest, I didn't start watcing Firefly until after it was cancelled....even though I knew it was a Joss Whedon show. However, after seeing the series, I fell in love with it.

Nope.
Firefly was on too later and too irregularly for me to be bothered to watch it. Plus, had no interest in a "Star Trek" show.
Also, being down under by the time it was screened I'd already heard it had been cancelled and that only 10 or so episodes were made.
However, I eventually purchased the DVD set cheaply simply because of Joss' association and the fact I'd read a few good reviews of the series. I wasn't dissapointed.
Doubt I would have seen Serenity were it not for Joss/Firefly as the trailer wasn't at all impressive and it appeared to be a rather cheap and lifeless B grade movie.
Cheers, Haeph.
