With the release of Serenity and The Sci Fi Channel's Complete Firefly marathon, I wasn't surprised when Amazon.co.uk sold out of the DVDs and brought it to #5 in the Boxset chart, but now I'm shocked to find that everywhere I go in my town, the Firefly Boxset is selling out! And all on the net, people are going crazy for it! I would be annoyed that I'm finding difficult to get my hands on one but I'm not, I'm more celebrating the series success! So I was just wondering whether anyone has any facts/figures for how much the DVD sales of the series has increased (Before the Movie, They'd sold 500,000 Copies Worldwide) or know anywhere else where the series is selling out. Just Curiosity... but also to cheer me up and make me happy for how well Firefly/Serenity is doing

Sadly the Powers That Be are extremely egocentric. Serenity opened to dissapointing numbers in the US and second weekend was a third less than hoped. Now a third of the theatres have dropped it. In the grand ol US of A, that marks failure.
Due to Hollywood arrogance, that means failure no matter what. All of the former Soviet Union republics could adopt Malcom Reynolds as their messiah and Hollywood would still mark it as a failure because the red carpet at the Chinese Man didn't have so-and-so at the premiere.

I'm pretty sure Universal knew most of the money was going to come from DVD sales anyway. I think that's the reason why it's going to be on DVD so quickly.
Hopefully Universal funds a sequel.
