I went on a little panic-buying spree last week because of the gloomy news and the insane need to get a Spike PALz. He just arrived and I finally got a close look at his accessories. He smokes Morleys. As an ex-X-Phile, this really gives me the creeps, because you know who else smokes Morleys, don't you? gerry, did you know about this? gerry??? Anybody??

Yeah, that's pretty much the point. It's a little joke for people like yourself, who are a fan of both the Buffyverse and The X-Files, since Palisades was making both of these, they thought it would be a neat thing for the fans. The Spike PAL is great, one of the best ones in my opinion, I'm glad you like him!

Ah, but the "conspiracy" runs much deeper. Almost every time you think you see a pack of Marlboros on TV shows or in films, it's really a pack of Morleys: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morley_cigarettes

It felt more like a jolt than a joke. I don't care how tiny PALZ are, the idea of Cancerman and Spike together is scary. Except, I don't have Cancerman, damn it.

So Cancerman is the smoking man from the X-Files? I didn't watch that show too much, but I remember my roommate explaining the smoking man to me.
That's so funny that he smoked Morley's. I have that Spike and love that he comes with cigarettes. Now I can appreciate his ciggies on a whole different level.

Yeah, Cancerman was his nickname for a long time as well as the Cigarette-Smoking Man. Fans pretty much switched over to just CSM after there was an episode that involved a man literally made of cancer, to avoid confusion.

Hunh. I always thought that was a Fox network thing - changing the name because Cancerman was offensive. After all, how could you confuse Leonards Betts with Cancerman?
But it freaked me out when Leonard Betts became Dr. Romano on E.R., and later, when I saw him in a rerun of the movie "Fame" - with a full head of curly red hair!!!
But I digress.
Yes, anytime you saw a package of Morleys on TXF, or even just a smoking cigarette butt, you knew Cancerman was up to no good.
I'm still trying to figure out how I never noticed Spike was smoking Morleys on BtVS. Too focused on those chiseled cheekbones, I guess.
