I saw all the Sideshow figures at their booth. Here's my opinion on all of them.
Buffy - Great looking. A cool figure. Same head sculpt as the last one but still cool
in that red coat.
Angel - Not as great looking as I thought in pictures. First the figure is waaaay too dark.
I've never seen Angel so tanned. Why don't they make the vampire characters lighter?
The guy has not seen the Sun in hundreds of years, with a few exceptions, they are supposed
to be really fair skinned. With the dark jacket it's just too much, too dark. It takes away from
the likeness which is also a little too old looking. I think they should have used photo reference from the first ep when Angel was really young and had strong cheekbones.
His hair is also very big and high. It's almost like an old ladies bouffont. I spelled that wrong.
Otherwise the figure is ok.
Spike - Second to Buffy in coolness. He's pretty fair skinned which is perfect. His
eyes are a little too light and bland though, not very strong.
Otherswise the clothes and 2 gold crosses he was holding were cool. He wore 2 gloves,
it was odd but still looked good. I'll get this figure.
Faith - She still does not look that good even in person, despite what they say.
The clothes are blah and just bad and she has these super big feet, wearing these
super big black boots. Laughable and Ugly at the same time, I almost laughed at loud.
This one women stood next to me and stared at the Faith figure for a good 15-20 seconds and
finally said "I don't like Faith, she looks wrong"
The face, while not contorted or weird, simply does not look like Eliza Dushku. It is
old looking and harsh. I see where they tried to get her eyes droppy and slanted down, like
Eliza, but it just doesn't work. It's not a good figure.
Vampire Willow - It's not Vampire Willow. the face is incredibly wrong. The forehead is
strangely smooth and unlined, the hair is wrong, the head is weirdly shaped, alot of
people commented on that, although they kept calling her "Evil Willow"
It just looks like a generic vampire, you don't look at it and think Vampire Willow.
So Buffy & Spike get my vote, Angel is iffy, if I find it cheap I'd get it.
I really don't know about vampire Willow. She would have to be really cheap as I would not even
spend $25 for the figure. it's just not worth it.
I also overheard that 80% of Sideshow product is sold directly to the consumer.
I asked if this is why they no longer sell to web only stores and was basically told yes.
They do not want to compete online with other stores, they want to get the full retail cost
of the figures. Good for their business but bad for other stores and the consumer, it eliminates
competition with the goal of keeping the price high.
That's it, let me know if you guys have any questions.
